On the other hand, it was a little rough around the edges. Their website pricing is out of date. They also charge a flat fee for gas surcharge. Online they say they offer a half hour rental for a jet ski, but once I arrived that wasn't an option. Hour minimum - understandable - but would be nice to have the information correct online. I walked by Randy's and couldn't get ahold of him on the phone, couldn't figure out which building to approach with all the signs, so I almost gave up on the boating idea. I would recommend texting him to coordinate - he was very responsive to texts. The jet ski I rented was dirty, and the first one they tried to set me up on wasn't working. Also note they have a vague rule that you have to stay where they can see you. That was a little strange for a boat rental place. Overall it worked for the purpose of getting out on the lake last minute, but is no luxury experience.

We were a little late but they were waiting for us all setup. We made it off first under the foot bridge in the early morning at around 5:45AM. Then, my girlfriend's dad lost the first fish so then my girlfriend's sister reeled in the second fish. I was another 2-3 hours until we hit the jackpot and everyone in our party of 5 snatched a lake trout. Afterwards, Rob filleted our catch and Kyler took photos of us with the rod of 6 lake trouts. Hands down the most fun on my entire trip to Duluth. After getting back, my girlfriend's mom fried our catch which was delicious.

I booked Tom Boley last summer for a half day guide with my son. I called the week before to…read moreconfirm and all was good. I wanted to make sure he was meeting us at the resort so I called 2 days before our trip to confirm that but he never answered. I left a voice mail but it wasn't returned. I tried again the next day and the day of the planned trip, nothing. I asked the resort owner and he said that Tom should pick us up at the resort, as they normally do. Well, needless to say, he never showed. This guy is a joke and I'd never try to hire him again. I talked about the problem at 2 different resorts, just this weekend (May 2016), and they both said they don't recommend him anymore because not showing up seems to be his thing, they've had heard the same complaint from a bunch of people. I don't know how this guy stays in business but he's extremely unprofessional and a real jerk for not even calling to say he couldn't make it. If you need a guide, try Dan Seibert, Deano, Ty Sennett or a couple others but pass on Tom Boley.
