Falsely advertised, not kid friendly. Came here with a friend and our kids, five of them all under 10 and was disciplined several times about the noise level outside during the day. We were very uncomfortable and made it seem like we were not welcome. Will not be back again and recommended that if you have kids- do not stay here!!! read more

I don't even remember how I found this place but I'm so glad I did. Charlie was accommodating and helpful before our arrival, greeted us when we got there, and was super friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The lodge was great, super rustic, room was comfortable. Not fancy, but we wanted laid back and comfortable on a quiet lake and that's exactly what we got. They have canoes, kayaks and paddle boats that are free to use. Light breakfast in the morning. I one million percent would return. If you like hidden gems off the beaten bath, I HIGHLY recommend. read more

Guys this is a hidden gem. We had such a lovely stay here!! It's right on the lake and far away from the highway. So peaceful and serene. A very kind lady greeted us and led us to our room. She had a darling baby. The place was decorated so lovely and had a Fall Theme with lots of pumpkins and thanksgiving type decor. Our room was super clean and our view was so beautiful. We even got a treat of a thunderstorm the next morning rolling in off the lake. Honestly this was a great find and I would stay there again in a heartbeat. My boyfriend and I stayed at Hanging Horn on a Sunday evening after spending the previous two nights in Duluth. Charlie greeted us at the door and was incredibly kind and helpful. Our room was spacious, the bathroom was recently remodeled, and the large windows provided a wonderful view of the lake. There's a game area where there are several books, DVDs, a deck of cards, and a checkers game available to use. Above the DVD case is a large chalk board of things to do at the resort. We utilized the canoes and kayaks shortly after arriving which was peaceful and fun. There is a complimentary breakfast available and it looks like Charlie goes to a grocery store to get fresh donuts for the morning. I still can't rave enough about how kind Charlie is. My boyfriend and I drove up the hill and our car got stuck over the ledge--when he walked back down to the lodge to call someone, Charlie happily brought his truck over to get us out. I was surprised by his willingness to help even on a Sunday evening. I would recommend this resort to anybody who wants a peaceful weekend overlooking a lake with plenty of things to do. I wish we would have stayed longer, but, needless to say, we will surely be back! read more

There are some times in life when you are lucky enough to stumble upon a place that immediately feels special, peaceful, and important...Hanging Horn is one of those places. We randomly found Hanging Horn on our way to Duluth for the day and upon seeing the property and meeting the owner, Charlie, we decided to cancel all of our other plans and spend the rest of the day soaking up everything Hanging Horn has to offer. Similar to other reviewers, I don't have enough good things to say about Charlie and his family who run the place. They were kind, conscientious, and all-around good people. The rooms in the lodge have beautiful lakeside views and were recently remodeled, so the bathrooms are super clean and nice. There is a common area and kitchen where complimentary breakfast is put out each morning. There are canoes, kayaks and paddle boats free for guests to use - just another bonus to everything Hanging Horn has to offer! We grabbed some BBQ stuff at the grocery store and used the community charcoal grill to make dinner and enjoy the sunset. There is also a beautiful old church on the property from the 1800's that is not currently in use, but we were able to check it out and it was really special. The cabins that surround the lodge would be great for families or couples. We are already planning our next trip back to Hanging Horn so we can spend way more than just a night there. Do yourself a favor and check out this hidden gem...you won't regret it. read more

We stayed at Hanging Horn resort for a weekend in August. This is an amazingly beautiful place. Our room in the Lodge was spacious, very clean and very quiet. The pillows and beds are very comfortable. We also had a DVD player and a large library of movies to choose from. There are many local restaurants to order for pick-up (Rustic Diner in Barnum was excellent for breakfast). The owners of this property are above and beyond! They are so accommodating and helpful. Also of note, they comply with the mask mandate fully and we felt very safe here. Offers to help launch our boat as well as bringing a lantern when the power went out during a storm. They make this resort one that we will return to. The real star of this resort is Little Hanging Horn Lake. It was perhaps the most beautiful, clear and serene lake we've ever been on. The resort offers kayaks, paddle board, paddle boats and canoes to explore the lake. The sunsets offered here are second to none. Hanging Horn is a hidden gem that you don't want to miss! read more

The new ownership at this 7 room hotel is fantastic. They were sold out yet super cordial on all our needs. We even were greeted in the parking lot. The room itself is quiet, safe, comfortable and relaxing. Use of their kayaks, canoe and paddle board make it a fun way to see the lake. A DVD and book library will help pass the time on rainy nights. Highly recommend this place! read more

We found Hanging Horn on the internet; the people who wrote gave it rave reviews. We were visiting Minnesota for the first time to meet up for a cousins reunion. We wish we could have stayed on to enjoy the lake even more. Charlie was an extremely accommodating host. He arranged for our very late night check in, and throughout our time there he always checked to see if we needed anything. The lodge was spotless in common areas and rooms. There is an assortment of items for a breakfast. Coffee makers were in the room and kitchen, cold bottles of water and fruit were available all day. Our room had two large windows facing the serene lake. The views were amazing. On the beach were chairs, and a table and chair set. We took a canoe out one day but never got to the paddle boat or kayaks, guess we'll happily need to return. read more

It was fun to find a north woods resort so close to home. Our room was really nice. The bed was really soft and there was a great view of the lake. Charlie was very accommodating. We went to nearby Moose Lake State Park for a great day of hiking. It was fun learning and exploring the history of the property. We look forward to seeing the resort in its prime. read more

"Hanging Horn Lakeside Resort is magical!", our friends told us as we visited other, lesser places while on our search for a great nearby resort, a resort like the one my future bride grew up in. On our first visit, she cried tears of joy at how perfectly it fit her vision. And it turned out it really was a magical place for a wedding. It is now months later and we still get told by guests that it was the best wedding they've ever been to. And when we get asked about our special day, we just tell people it was perfect. Because it really was. So much credit for that perfection goes to Charlie, the owner. His hospitality and earnestness were evident from the moment we met him. He, his parents, and the staff truly bent over backwards to meet our needs (and we asked a LOT of them because we invited more people than we told him we were planning to). It was truly special to have him there ringing the chapel bell as we met the world as husband and wife for the first time. As for the chapel attached to that bell, it is a gorgeous piece of history, and it was absolutely beautiful as the afternoon sun lit our guests through its elaborate stained glass wall. The banquet hall is conveniently located just a few steps from the chapel, and the grass between those buildings was perfect for lawn games while people waited for the evening's fun to begin. Since the weather, like everything else, was perfect, we danced the night away to our chosen band while our guests ate tacos from the taco truck (El Oasis del Norte). Then we walked back down the hill to spend time with family and friends at the bonfire before retiring to our cozy honeymoon cabin. (We have also stayed in the lodge itself and been in every cabin because we took over the resort on our wedding weekend. We would happily stay in any of the accomodations here.) We plan to make many return visits to HHLR, because our friends were exactly right - Hanging Horn Lakeside Resort is magical! read more
