My girlfriend and I found sleep afloat via AIR B&B and ended up renting their houseboat in fells point for a weekend. As far as booking the room, it was easy. I called their agent in Baltimore, and he answered immediately. Mine was a last minute booking (2 hrs before arrival). I asked them if they could do any better on the price and they were able to knock 200$ off the Air B&B listed price. I met with their local contact Dominick, who was friendly and receptive. He gave me the keys and after a quick review of the boats systems he was on his way. Our boat featured a queen sized bed that was super comfortable. It also featured central air, and a nicely equipped kitchen. There were a total of 4 boats available for rent- in varying levels of luxury and size. The boat was clean, and the location was nice. Because of where the harbor is situated there were not very many waves at all. The only downside to the whole experience was the 175$ cleaning fee that is automatically assessed after each stay. Overall, not a killer deal by any means, but definitely a cool-unique experience.

The road to get to the campsites / office is relatively bumpy and the road is full of ruts and rocks that could actually be challenging for a small car or a car that is low to the ground. We drove slowly and it was fine. The lady in the office was very friendly and we paid in cash which is preferred. This is clearly a family-run operation. The walk down to the beach was via a kind-of steep set of stairs. At the bottom there were a few other groups of people there, many of them apparently semi-professional fossil hunters with specialized digging hand tools. Unfortunately the tide was coming in when we got there (poor planning on our part), but this limited our fossil searching to a sliver of exposed beach itself as the water was covering a significant portion of the ground. I would highly recommend Wellington-style rubber boots or something similar to keep your feet dry while you search (everyone else on the beach was wearing them). Your sneakers will probably get wet. As far as fossils go, we didn't find much. One of us found what appeared to be a very small shark tooth. You are not allowed to dig into the cliffs themselves due to erosion concerns but you could see layers of shells and small fossils in the cliffside which was interesting. All in all it was not the fossil-rich experience I was expecting. I've heard about digging for fossils at Calvert Cliffs for many years and so it was a bit disappointing to come away empty-handed. If we had been better prepared to wade out into the water and brought some sort of implements with us we may have had more success. Not a terrible afternoon at all but not a place I will be chomping at the bit to return to.

It was $10 per person (cash only!), but considering that the beach has tons of shells and fossils, and lots of parking, we found it a very fair price. They even give you a permit so you can leave and come back on the same day. I would suggest bringing an umbrella or sun tent, as there isn't much shade (at least before 2 pm est, when we left). The water is a bit murky, but refreshing and sandy once you get out past the shoreline. You may want to bring water shoes.

The bed which was advertised as queen was so small ( I think it was a full) and the mattress was terrible, so soft. When I removed the sheets I saw that it was an air mattress! There was no extractor fan in the bathroom and there was a large damp patch on the ceiling next to the shower. Maybe I'm nit picking but the toilet paper was so thin you could use it as tracing paper, I had to buy my own supply. The only good thing about the place was the washer/ dryer. Save your money and go somewhere else.

When your family is this big, they learn to roll with the punches of communal living. There is always some struggle in big gatherings and this house has met all our demands pretty easily. Did you want a huge kitchen that seems like it fell out of Downton Abbey? Done. A homey carriage house with a bidet for my kids to have a brand new giggling experience? Perfecto! Solid wifi? Yep! Plastic wine goblets for breakfast orange juice for same children? Check! Many rooms with chairs and couches for a hundred moments to connect and find out how we've weathered another year? Thankfully yes! Family games, on the bookshelf, and a painting of a family member who has the head of a dog, or is it the family dog dressed up for his portrait? We are still arguing about this, especially as there is a Pokémon Go stop right next door and the kids spent a lot of time in there. Also hidden in the neighborhood is a playground that has two 3-story slides. This was a goldmine for my 6/28 relatives, and we can't wait to come back.
