I've been going to Sandhill for almost two years and I've only had great experiences. They are so attentive, happy to answer all my questions, and really spend the time to work with me to figure out solutions for my cats. One of my cats, Scribbles, wasn't eating/drinking and was hiding all of Sunday and they were able to get her in on Monday a few hours after we called them. They examined her and re-hydrated her and now she is back to her mischievous ways. I was shocked by how low the bill was, especially given how short notice it was. Dr. Thompson and Dr. Berg are the most caring and thoughtful vets I have ever experienced as a pet owner. They are thorough and honest, and have never overcharged. The vet techs are mean. The vet is nice, but paternalistic. If you disagree with her treatment plan, they will ask you to go elsewhere.

When my cat became ill in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, I was beside myself. I'm at high risk of serious complications, and I haven't been leaving my apartment. I didn't want to go out, but I had no choice. My usual vet couldn't see her, so I looked up veterinarians on Yelp. Sandhill was rated highly, so I called. They could see her the same day. They were very respectful of my fears. They offered several ideas for what they could do to keep me safe at the same time as treating my cat. Sabby received excellent medical care and was better the next day. And they called me the next day to see how she was doing. Who does that!?! Sandhill has become my new regular veterinarian. They said they will remain open because veterinary care is an essential service. They took good care of my cat, and they took good care of me. read more

We love Sandhill! We found them on Yelp and are glad we did. Our pupper actually likes going to the vet! The two vets and their vet techs are knowledgeable and warm. They take great care of our puppy! I've had to wait for a short bit on one occasion, but usually they're on time. They answer all our questions and handle pets with love and care. Very upset with this veterinary clinic, we just moved to the north side of Madison so we're changing vet. I scheduled an initial appointment with them so I could get my cat fixed, I was told later because of pandemic they weren't scheduling any more surgeries at this time, which I totally understand. Now two months later when I try to reschedule they say they aren't taking new clients... very disheartening. I understand loyalty to your customer who have been there forever but how about some respect for the new ones who would have been with you for years. read more

The staff are well trained and caring. Their prices are reasonable, and they'll suggest various treatment plans that include referrals to specialists when needed. Between our own animals and the dogs I fostered for rescue, they've taken care of almost 25 animals for me, so this is not a review made as a result of just one experience. The five stars for this clinic are definitely warranted. We have two shih tzus, and my husband took them both here yesterday. Our younger shih tzu was due for a stool sample (only $17) and our older shih tzu has been having on-and-off eye issues for the past several months. My husband just finished active duty service, so we've seen several vets in various states for this same eye problem. I was pretty impressed with how they treated our older shih tzu. First, the exam fee is extremely reasonable ($40). Second, they gave us reasonably priced eye drops (less than $20; can't remember the exact price). The location is great and the prices here are super reasonable. I'm so happy to say that we have found our vet in Madison. I would highly recommend Sandhill Pet Clinic. read more

Dr Nothnagel and his staff are second to none. I am very particular when it comes to my animals and honestly have been through more vets than I am proud of. A friend referred me th Sandhill and I could not be happier. Our first few visits he actually went outside with my dog and I and watched his behavior and movements and then made the diagnosis. He is down to earth, experienced, provides tips on caring for our babies and our dogs love him. He and Jackie, a staff member recently, drove 30 min to our home for the difficult task of putting our beloved Brock to sleep ... and it was his day off. Sandhill came highly recommended to me, and I was not disappointed at all in the thoroughness and attention given to my cat, whom I took in for an over-grooming problem. The doctor provided several options for what could be causing it, and said he would like to run a few blood tests and named the two that he would do. In my experience, blood tests have never been more than $20/test, so I OK'd them. On receiving my bill, however, there were actually three tests that he had run - the third being more than three times the amount of each of the other two (I was right about the cost of those), and not one that he had said he would run. Of course I had to pay it, since I'd 'OK'd the blood work' (I was told by the vet tech that this test is usually what he is referring to when he says "blood work", nevermind that he'd referred to the other two tests by name). I feel remiss in that I didn't ask the cost of the tests, but as this third test was never even brought up, I would not have known to ask the cost for that one in the first place. Additionally, he'd said he'd be sending me home with four doses of an anti-parasite medication as a precautionary measure (since he didn't know for sure what could be causing the issue)...again, I'll be the first to admit I should've asked the cost, since $60 is a lot for a precautionary measure, in my book. (I was told later by a tech there that the vet doesn't really know how much things cost, which is, I hope, why he felt ok with having me get those just in case.) In all, a disappointing experience for a vet I was very impressed with in terms of knowledge and thoroughness. I won't be going back, but would recommend them to another person with this caveat: make sure to ask a LOT of questions, and get an estimate for any lab work first. They charged for everything, including slide stains (this may be typical, but I'd never seen it on a bill before), so I would ask for a written estimate rather than a verbal one. read more

I've been taking my dog to Dr. Nothnagel for 4 years, and have been consistently impressed with the level of care she receives. My dog is a relatively high-strung German shepherd, and the vet is always calm and relaxed with her, which helps the dog be calm and relaxed as well. I have found the cost of services to be reasonable and the office staff always explains the charges if I have questions. They have even sent prescriptions for human-equivalent medications to Walgreen's for me so that I can save money. read more
