On June, 23rd 2025, Sandhills Moving & Storage delivered our household goods after they had been stored for two years in the company's climate-controlled facility while our house was undergoing renovations. Prior to storage, we elected full coverage insurance and were assured that the company had extensive experience handling and storing antique and high-value furniture for our sizable amount of belongings in a 6k square foot home. Upon delivery, we discovered that the majority of our items were severely broken or damaged, and nearly all were affected by what appeared to be mold or mildew. Moisture readings on our antique furniture measured approximately 60%, and in some cases, moving blankets had adhered to the surfaces. All of this damage was witnessed and assessed by not only their moving team but a manager they sent out to our home the following day who was in complete shock at the staggering amount of damage. After Sandhills filed our insurance claim, for our elected full insurance, we learned from the insurance carrier that the required paperwork was not fulfilled by Sandhills despite being required under their own policy. This administrative oversight voided our full coverage protection and reduced our compensation to $2.50 per pound, which is far below the replacement value of the affected items. When we initially raised this issue, a manager, Pat, assured us it would be corrected, but subsequent calls were not returned, and our attempts to follow up have been unsuccessful. Pat refuses to speak to us and the secretary hung up on us. All of these conversations have been recorded and we have proof of all statements made by the insurance, Sandhills, their movers, managers, and any/all parties involved because NC is a one party consent to record. My husband and I are both 100% disabled Army veterans with four children, one of whom has a severe disability and Sandhills was abundantly aware of this. Following the delivery, our family has experienced health issues consistent with mold exposure. A licensed mold specialist advised us to seal off all affected items to prevent contamination of our newly renovated home, leaving a significant amount of our belongings to include all major furniture such as living room furniture, bedroom sets, mattresses, and dining room furniture unusable. This situation has caused substantial financial, logistical, emotional, and health challenges for our family. While we understand that mistakes can occur, we are shocked that there has been no meaningful resolution or constructive communication to address the matter and ZERO accountability. I tried to contact the owner Jason Birdsall via phone, email, and his Facebook with no response. We hope that by sharing our experience, others will have the information needed to make an informed decision to look elsewhere during a move or storage need. We are now being forced to pay for a lawyer to seek legal representation in this matter. No family should ever have to suffer like this. read more

They packed our items well, but they STOLE my husband's $100+ COLOGNE and they stole my candy that I had bought that day...it's literally nowhere to be found and no neither one of us misplaced it or threw it away. No, it is not in any boxes, we already opened everything, and no it was not put into another box or misplaced. He kept his cologne in our 1 bathroom and we let the man and woman movers use the bathroom. Suddenly, once they leave, we realize that it's MISSING. With the second round of people that came to actually load the boxes, they were being lazy with moving our iron weights and almost hurt himself with the dolly carrying the weights AND it broke part of the concrete stairs to the apartment complex. We know that it was either the woman or man in the first round of movers that took it. Hopefully it can be refunded or returned to us. The movers arrived without the equipment needed for the job. They didn't have a dolly or a ramp on their truck. After a couple hours, these were brought to them, but at that point, they had wasted a couple hours in the morning and we had a large of furniture to move. We had a heavy metal craftsman work table and cabinet twisted and destroyed. at one point I watched in horror as someone tried to bring a nice piece of wooden furniture up the steps without it being attached to the dolly. I had to tell him that he needed to strap furniture onto a dolly before bringing it up steps. The company refused to honor any claims for damages to items. read more

ZERO STARS!!! BEWARE!!! Estimate was WAY over and when I called them to notify them that MANY pieces would not be going. I was cut off from listing all of them and told that it wouldn't make a difference. Of course, it was added weight that the estimate reflected so in their benefit not to remove. Day of, 3 people show up to move 26,000 lbs!! Then they wanted to charge me more for "added labor". NEVER in all of my moves have any less than 4 men showed up and it was always smaller moves than this last one. This move cost just under $18,000! The little customer service they exhibited prior to them collecting their money went out the window as soon as they cahrged our credit card! Furniture was dropped, labeling and inventory wasn't completed. This has been an unprofessional, incompetent job since day one. read more

Moved this past summer from NC to CT. Definitely do not recommend them, or any Mayflower/United moving company. The driver was not happy that he had to reassemble the furniture, so he deliberately damaged my 11 year old daughter's dresser/mirror unit. He randomly screwed the pieces together, drilling holes where they did not belong and permanently damaging the unit. And then left the bag with the proper screws on the floor next to the dresser. This posed a safety issue since the pieces were not properly assembled and the mirror could have easily fallen over and shattered. I assembled it the proper way. The company has refused to pay for the damage because they could not inspect how the driver put it together (even though multiple pictures were provided, clearly indicating the damage). This is in addition to the multiple other items that were damage, with partial compensation offered (even though we paid extra for full replacement value). read more

Fayetteville, NC, Southern Pines branch I believe. Movers did not seem like professionals. One of the movers was smoking in the garage and since the doors were all open, my house smelled like cigarettes. I put some waters in the freezer then handed them out to the movers, realized later they continued taking more water bottles, which I was fine with, but they also helped themselves to taking my pineapple juice and who knows what else. I absolutely do not condone this behavior and sense of entitlement/ability to steal from their customers with ease. It was also very apparent from the amount of water bottles they took that they did not come prepared. It is a poor reflection on the company that their employees are so reliant on their customers hospitality and that they abuse it. read more

Can there be zero or negative stars? Be prepared to receive 1/4 of your stuff damaged! Late and broken!!! Nothing of what I packed myself broke--arrived safe and sound (but 48 hours late). They must have decided to take a long nap on the way. Everything that broke was what they packed, and of course they had charged me pretty good and large for the packing. Do yourself a favor. Don't use these unprofessional bunch. I promise you will regret it if you do. Come back and post about your terrible experience when you receive your broken and scratched up furniture. read more

I used them this past April to move a full home of furniture and thought they were just average. They were nice enough, but furniture was scratched and they left a few scratches in the brand new house that was purchased, as well as a huge hole in the wall of the old house that they hack job patched. The manager did it himself, which was nice, but was going to leave it patched with no sanding or anything until I pointed it out and requested he finish the job fully. read more

We could not be happier with the service we received. The men who moved us, Quan, Steve, Chris and Max were all terrific. They carefully wrapped each piece of furniture for the move, and placed it as I instructed in our new home. They worked extremely hard, taking only two short breaks, and would not stop for another break when I asked them to. To our surprise, the cost was less then the estimate. read more

I used this company to move my father-in-law. Very good service and willing to work with you and your needs as far as dates for packing and unpacking. They actually come to your place to see what you have so you get a good estimate of your cost ahead of time. They will also pack things for you if you cannot (or don't want to). Thanks to Josh and Carlos my move to NC ended on a high note. They were prompt, courteous, and worked quickly and efficiently to get my belongings unloaded from the truck and into my new place. Best experience in my history of army moves!! Quran and crew were responsible, professional and easy to direct! I'm 8 months pregnant and was nervous about the moving process but they made this so simple! They set up all our rooms the way I wanted and then rearranged with no problem when I changed my mind ( more then once), then they unpacked all our boxes and left our house in perfect condition!! I would give them negative stars if I could. I contracted with Sandhills to collect my furniture from my house in West End and store it while my new house was being built in California. The furniture was picked up and everything appeared to be fine. When it came time to deliver the furniture to California, Sandhills had trouble finding a driver to deliver the furniture and it was delivered late. When the first truck arrived, over 40 boxes were missing. They found about 20 of the missing boxes and delivered them a month later. There was damage to about 10 items. We disagreed on the value of the damaged and lost items so we went to arbitration. What a joke. They demanded that I itemize all the lost items, and after an exhaustive process to identify over 200 items missing, they said it doesn't matter because the amount of restitution is based on the size of the box and not the value of the contents. It would have been nice to know that in advance! And this was not in their contract documents. Then the arbitrator demanded that I prove that the damage occurred during the move and who had done the damage, Sandhills or Mayflower. It was impossible for me to prove when the damage occurred as I was in California and the furniture was taken out of storage and loaded onto the trailer in North Carolina. If you need to put your furniture in storage, I would recommend that you store it near where you are going, and not let a company far from where you live load and unload your goods. read more
