Unfortunately, this is not all that a business professional is rated on. I kind of thought from the beginning that Erica was a bit unprofessional. I tried to put that out of my mind because she was very cost effective and her photos were stunning. Every contact I had with her, it just seemed like she didn't have her stuff together. Our engagement session was pretty good. Not many complaints about that. The real problems started at the wedding. While me and my bridesmaids were getting ready, she asked my maid of honor when she was due. My MOH is not pregnant. Everyone (women especially!!) should know that you NEVER EVER EVER ask a woman if she is pregnant. She almost made my MOH cry. the last thing I needed on this stressful day was to comfort my MOH. I wish it had ended there. I tried to defend Erica sayin "Maybe you misheard her" but later in the day another friend who was there reiterated what was said, and there was no misunderstanding. We went outside to take pictures in the vineyards and it was extremely hot (for late october) and uncomfortable. We wanted to get these pictures over ASAP. We were also being swarmed by bees and two of our wedding party attendants are extremely allergic. We kept telling Erica that we wanted to move and she kept insisting we stay where we are because the pics were coming out great. We appreciate the great pictures but a bridesmaid in the hospital would've made for a bad day. After about 30-40 minutes of pictures my feet (i hate heels so much that I actually walked down the aisle barefoot) were absolutely screaming and I was getting very cranky. My makeup was running and my dress weighed 50 million pounds and I just wanted to take a break before the ceremony. Erica literally whined saying that she wanted to go take pictures in the wine caves. When I said "no, i really need to take a break" she practically stomped her feet and pouted saying "Oh come onnnnn, lets go take pictures in the wine caves!!" My husbands groomsman stepped in and said "no, when the bride says we're done, we're done." She backed off on the wine caves point, but continued to try to get more pictures. Later in the evening she came up to me whining because the Wedding coordinator said that vendors (photorapher, dj, etc.) usually ate after the wedding guests finished and she wanted to eat "NOW" and I needed to go tell the wedding coordinator that. It isn't so much her complaint that bothers me (it was a valid complaint), but I was the WRONG person to come to. There were 3 bridesmaids and a mother of the groom she could have discussed it with instead. The rest of the issues of the night didn't become apparent to me until months later. My boss told me that he was standing next to Erica while she was taking pictures of the grandmas and Erica turned to him and said "Gotta get the pictures of the grandmas! Who knows when they'll kick off" ...Seriously. My boss is one of the most honest people I've ever known in my life and he wouldn't lie about that. In the weeks leading up to me getting my photos erica e-mailed me to say that they were almost done and I can mail my final check to her address. I had paid her in full on the day of the wedding per her demands! If I had known I could've waited till I got my pictures I would've done that. Then she sent another mass e-mail to me and a bunch of other brides called "THE LAST CHECK" saying "I hope you liked your photos. Please send your next check to X" To which I responded AGAIN, I already paid you! Once I finally received my pictures, I asked her how she would handle my book. If she was going to choose the photos, if I was going to choose them, etc. And she said "Please choose 60 photos, put them on a disc, mail them back along with your final check" I PAID MY EFFING BILL ALREADY!! And no, I'm not gonna make another damn CD and mail it back to you and wait another 3 months for an apple iphoto book. I'll do it myself. I also realized while searching through my photos that no pictures were captured of my husband when he first saw me coming down the aisle. Very depressing. Technically I paid for a Trash the dress session (which she does fabulously) and the apple iphoto book but I am just done. I have 3 friends getting married in the near future and they all asked me for a recommendation of a good photographer. I have told them all that I really wish I could have recommended mine, but the unprofessionalism just isn't worth the hassle. It's such a shame because her photos are absolutely out of this world (that is what the 2 stars are for) Erica really needs to work on her professionalism. You can be friendly and cool and professional at the same time.

One thing I will not appreciate is her lack of professionalism. I heard about Erica from a client who had really amazing shots from her wedding. My client told me what she had paid for her to shoot her wedding which made my mouth drop because it was perfect for someone who is on a tight budget. I contacted her through email sometime in August 2007 in regards to her services. I also had found a craiglist ad that she had posted to shoot weddings at a starting price of $600. GREAT PRICE... When I emailed her in regards to it and let her know my date she told me it was booked already and that the price posted in her ad was for 2007 prices and that it would double for 2008. FINE $1200 for a photographer I would willingly pay at least $3000 for her work. NOT A PROBLEM. A week or two later I got a message on my voice mail stating that she wasn't booked until she was paid. "HMMMM....*red flag* kinda weird." I called her or emailed her back and ask her about a deposit half up front to book the date and half after the date or a week prior. Which is the usual contractual agreements with all photographers. I thought it was fair enough. Well 2008 rolls around and here I am starting to really plan for my wedding this June. I contacted her right before the end of the year and she had mentioned that the date wasn't booked yet and that we could set up a consult. We set up a consultation date and a week prior to the date she's booked on my day of the wedding. I was truly disappointed because I would've loved her to shoot at the wedding. She seems like a cool chick and I love being able to help out people who are starting in their industry and career of choice. At the same time, I felt really shitted on. When you schedule a consult with a new client at least mention that you have a possibility that the date may be potentially booked prior. I understand its first come first serve, but let someone know that you might be booked already and don't even bother to set up a consult with a client for the same date.

We wanted a photographer who was very familiar with civil ceremonies at City Hall and was able to capture the day in a classic and genuine way to capture the joy of the big day. Katherine sent frequent emails with updates and tips on how to prep for the day and we had a preliminary call where we were able to make a schedule and plan out the day since we also had a wedding photoshoot afterwards in Golden Gate Park afterwards. During the day of, Katherine was on-time, flexible with when the other people in our group arrived, and guided us through the whole morning with when to check in, where to take photos, etc. She gave us some prompts of how to pose but overall she let us be natural and encouraged to be comfortable in front of the camera. The ceremony was captured beautifully by her and she took great group photos. We then went to Golden Gate Park, and she helped us take some cute coffeeshop and park photos, even with some bonus tennis court and piano pics (two of our favorite hobbies!). After the day, we received a sneak peek very promptly with an awesome of photos (~100 of them!) and a huge full gallery in about a month with lots of gorgeous film photos. There was a huge heat wave that weekend in San Francisco, and Katherine made the whole experience so pleasant and working with her felt like working with an old friend. She is so personable and I have been highly recommending her to my friends and family already! I would definitely recommend working with Katherine :)

It is rare to meet people who truly are passionate about what they do and take great pride in their work--her talent is top-notch! We booked a session with Cindy, and she showed up with props (kids toys that are very aesthetic, and bubbles) and was really patient with coaxing our shy toddler out of her shell. We love that she was not trying to force any smiles or poses (which is like our experience with some photo studios), but rather trying to capture genuine expressions of happiness and laughter from our little one. The photos are very real and authentic to the personality of my daughter, so this was a great investment, to be able to document her at this stage in her life. We have worked with other photographers in the past, and their turnaround is usually several weeks. Cindy was able to get our photos to us the very next day, which is very impressive. Additionally, we received over 60 edited, hi-resolution photos, which was well over our expectation for a one-hour photo session.

My husband and I eloped at New York City Hall, just the two of us. We wanted to have a photoshoot…read moreto capture the experience and Everly Studios was one of the first to come up on Google. We met with Jocelyn Voo over Zoom before moving forward with working with her for our special day as our photographer and our witness. Jocelyn was absolutely outstanding for more reasons than one. Firstly, we felt that she really "GOT" us, from start to finish. She listened to our vision (dark, moody, candid, casual, gritty) and as wild as some of our ideas were, she totally leaned in and delivered exactly what we were looking for! Secondly, when you're eloping just the two of you, having a third person present is intimidating; what if it's awkward? What if the vibes are weird? But Jocelyn was an absolute joy to spend time with! I'd go so far as to say that her presence made the day even more special. She asked us about our love story, she joked around with us, and seemed genuinely interested in who we were as people. This also impacted the photos, as you can see how comfortable we are and how much fun we're having. Third, Jocelyn is an expert at her craft, although not pretentiously so. Her website offers so much guidance on how the elopement process works. Her emails with us gave us contacts for who to reach out to for certain steps (We took pictures in the lobby of the Beekman and had to have permission granted; something we certainly wouldn't have known!) Not only did we consider Jocelyn our photographer, but our guide in the process of eloping. She also is an expert in that her photo-taking does not appear obvious! I was worried about having professional pictures taken of me in public, but onlookers barely noticed as Jocelyn very naturally pulled her camera out and snapped pictures. If you are eloping in NYC, there is simply no contest; Jocelyn at Everly Studios is your photographer. You won't regret it, and I genuinely believe our wedding day would not have been as smooth and enjoyable if it weren't for Jocelyn.

Amber Marlowe Blatt is a nice person who needs to find a new line of work…read more I'll post a full review of my experiences with her, but here is the quick summary: - We hired her twice. The first time, she did great work. We were happy. - We hired her again a year later, to take family photos. She did the shoot. She showed me some of the work through the viewfinder and said it was wonderful. And then she called me a week later and told me that she had LOST *ALL* OF THE IMAGES! Gone. Zero. I do marketing for a living and have hired perhaps twenty photographers in my life for over a hundred photo shoots. This is the first time I had ever heard of someone losing the work for a day's session. It just doesn't happen, because it is the ultimate badge of disgrace for a photographer. So what happened? She said she was sharing her studio with some folks doing a different project, they had taken a memory card from her desk, thought it was blank, etc. There are some serious issues here -- why is someone who bills as a professional letting other people grab memory cards from her desk? Why is she selling her time for hundreds of dollars and then pulling the memory card out -- representing not just her efforts but the time and energy a family takes to coordinate schedules and dress the kids -- and then not bothering to push the write protect tab? Why is she shooting on digital media and not bothering to make a copy of the work before charging in on other projects? Or, if she is running to an emergency, can't make a copy, you might at least write on the card with a Sharpie and say "do not use" or write the date of the session or write anything? Anything at all? We could debate this over and over. But someone who can't secure their digital work should not be shooting events for a living. You cannot "redo" a wedding. You cannot "redo" a birthday or bar mitzvah or other major life event. If you care about getting quality work, you should not be hiring this person. So that was the worst phone call ever -- "Hi, it's Amber, whoops, sorry, nothing left." And then, to add insult to injury, she apologized and offered "to do the shoot again without charging us." Are you f'ing serious? That was basically offering nothing. Of course she can't charge us for a second shoot. We had paid for the first shoot, spent our time and energy, and gotten zip out of it. Through her clear and pure incompetence. And then she did the second shoot and the images were poor. We couldn't and didn't use any of them. There were even instances in the second shoot when I said things to her like "are you sure we are centered under the sign" and Amber said yes, yet we were not. Bad image. Same thing with the sunlight -- "are you sure there won't be too much shadow at this time of day?" Amber said we were okay. We were not. She clearly didn't want to do the shoot a second time, or take the time to make it right, when she knew we weren't going to use her again. So -- sorry Amber. Nice person. Needs a new job. Ben
