Steve and I do love our craft beer and the trip we went on that led up to us going to Sandstone Distilling involved a beer brewery or two. But we do like to change it up and go to a distillery or a winery frim time to time. Stopping at Sandstone was just the perfect stop for this change of pace. We had a small taster set of a few of their different spirits which were great. Everything we had was wonderful and Steve bought a bottle of vodka I believe to take home. The staff were wonderful as they were very friendly and took us around on a small tour going over the distilling process and the history of the equipment there. This was a great stop and one worth making stops at whenever you are nearby. I also believe you can get their products online or at select stores. read more

Sandstone Distillery is a place of my dreams, a distillery filled with spirits, old wood, barrels, copper pots and stories! John & Jennifer had a dream and they have made it reality with their passion, hard work and dedication and it shows! We came to Sandstone Distillery through Harvest Host, a membership program that offers unique overnight stays for RV'ers. We arrived on a day the tasting room wasn't open however John & Jennifer graciously opened their doors for us and gave us and evening we'll forever remember! My husband and I each had a different tasting, one was amber spirits and one was clear spirits. The tasting also came with some premixed cocktails they offer. With each spirit and cocktail, John told their story which created a genuine interest in the spirits! We sipped each one and learned so much about the process and passion that it takes to create amazing spirits. We walked away with three different bottles and returned two days later for 3 more!! Jennifer has also created some utterly amazing sipping vinegars, Wild Heart Sipping Vinegar, and will offer a tasting of those as well, make sure you taste them, they're phenomenal! This place is super cool. I have had their stuff at festivals, but this is the first time i had a chance to visit. The place is cool the owners/workers were awesome and super friendly. The dogs were great and the whiskey was amazing. I left with an apple whiskey but could have left with the single malt, the white, the session 8, and the coffee. Plus I tried the Gin, while most times I cant stand the taste of gin I tried 2 I absolutely loved. I highly recommend this place. Its a bit out of the way but definitely worth the drive. My boyfriend and I were celebrating our 3 year anniversary in Olympia! We wanted to taste some spirits and found this gem! It's pretty far back and down the road but it is well worth it! We tried the flights of their lights and dark liquors. The owner gave us a rundown of each liquor and showed us around on a day they were closed!! I felt bad but they were really welcoming! I learned so much and we even got to learn about the local tribe and land! So much history! Also, bring your wallet! Not only are these guys serving up really well balanced vodkas, gins, and whiskeys for a super young establishment but the commitment to ingenuity and community is so clear! From the repurposed soup caldrons off an old Navy ship to the protein-rich spent grain being used to feed the pigs at the farm down the road that are later used to create their bacon vodka, the folks at Sandstone are truly something special. John is extremely knowledgeable and is a master at repurposing stuff into working equipment. It was a pleasure to hear of his journey in building a wonderful distillery. Justin gave us a tour that was, bar none, the most informative, friendly, and enthusiastic I have ever had the pleasure to be a part of. This distillery's commitment to local production ingredients is impressive. The Sandstone team is building a true asset to their charming community in Tenino. And of course, one cannot forget to mention the spirits. Justin took care of us through our sampling of Sandstone Distillery's wares, and there was not a bottle that did not delight. Like the people that make them, the Sandstone spirits are a family; each with their unique personality and each having a familiar taste. From the warm and boozy Stone Carver White Whiskey to the anise-hearted Black Gin, each libation is distinctly smooth, with a pleasantly alcoholic tingle that lingers on the tongue. And, as if all of this weren't enough, the distillery doubles as a kind of local museum dedicated to Tenino's stone-cutting, quarry heritage, and to Andrew Wilson in particular. Their tasting room includes artifacts close to a century old, and John does a singularly good job of conveying both the excitement of Andrew's story and the wonder of holding the tools of past industry. If you have any interest in fine spirits or local history, do yourself a favor and take the trip to Sandstone Distillery. You will not be disappointed. P.S. What a fun experience! John is so passionate about the history of the area, distillation and everything he does you just can't help but become enthralled in it all. We loved hearing about the history of their business and the equipment they use. We were excited to hear they get their grains from Chehalis! Whether you just love good booze, or you want to geek out over the chemistry and engineering involved in the process, this distillery will not disappoint. John's family puts a lot of thought into how to incorporate the distillery into the community, even going so far as to set up a mini museum in the front tasting room. Everything is locally sourced and returned to the community in another form (feed for the neighbor's pigs, oil byproduct for the local technical college). To top it all off the alcohol that they produce is creative, smooth, and very tasty. We LOVE Sandstone Distillery. My husband had visited the distillery back in January and enjoyed it. So, when his workmates were in town for a conference we organized a private tour for 7 of us. The setting of the distillery is beautiful - a lovely country home off the beaten path; the distillery itself is set up in the barn. The husband (John) of the husband, wife and son team is incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic about spirits and the distilling process. I loved that he taught us about the biology and chemistry of the process without dumbing it down at all. John has re-purposed all types of equipment (huge juice containers, navy ship parts and a milk condenser) to make beautiful, futuristic-looking stills. The best part was the tasting. John gave us tastes of their vodkas, gins, whiskies and bottled cocktails - all of them distinct and delicious. I especially liked the vodka, the Black Gin and the award-winning White Whiskey. Jenny (the wife) offered us a cool delicious non-alcoholic drink made from one of their sipping vinegars. We are looking forward to going back for "Music at the Stills." read more

We were on a leisurely road trip with no destinations in mind. We saw a sign on the freeway listing Sandstone Distillery as a tourist attraction. With COVID19 we were pleasantly surprised they were open for tastings. It is a family-owned and we were fortunate to be able to have our tastings with one of the owners (son). He was very passionate and we enjoyed learning about the process and the history of the facility. He welcomed all of our questions. Definitely a place to stop if you are in the areas. Living in California we will definitely be ordering from them in the future. The only downside of our trip was we broke a bottle of the "Black Gin" on the trip back home. They have a wonderful selection of infused vodkas, whiskeys and gins. I'm a huge fan of their rosemary vodka but I've also been enjoying the limited edition raspberry vodka as well. My wife and I enjoyed a great tasting visit to Sandstone Distillery yesterday (10/5). John, the owner, gave us a wonderful presentation of their spirits, vodka, gin, white whiskey, and bourbon along with delicious cocktail mixes and "sipping vinegars" which add a whole new dimension to the neat spirits. I've never been a drinker of mixed drinks, but I could easily see forgoing a glass wine to make room for these. We bought some for ourselves and did some early Christmas shopping. My boyfriend suggested Sandstone, and it was the best tour and tasting we've ever had. We have been interested in the distilling process, having tried and toured the Bourbon Trail, a variety of distilleries in Chicago, and distilleries in Seattle. Sandstone Distillery was by far the most informative, personal, and fun tour we have ever had. John told us so much about the history of Tenino, his distilling process, and the distillery. The ability to taste not only the numerous liquors but the syrups (the coffee syrup was to die for), the cocktails, and the tonics was amazing. John was extremely knowledgeable. We loved that there were unique and traditional spirits. We loved the rosemary vodka and white dog whiskey as well as the traditional vodka and whiskey. The traditional gin was so flavorful and the black gin was so unique. It's amazing to try such a variety in such a personal environment. We purchased quite a few items and will definitely be back for more! This place is really a hidden gem. Even though I drive by here everyday you would never know such an awesome distiller was here! Just a sign and metal building, apparently where magic happens every day. If you are in the area you owe to yourself to stop by. Premium spirits and premium service. I stopped to buy a gift and left with an education on what they do here and wonderful overall experience. If you believe in supporting local it doesn't get any more local than this. We visited the Bourdon family's Sandstone Distillery in Tenino yesterday day. It is near Millersylvannia State Park. We loved our tour from John and seeing all his equipment that he has ingeniously put together for his whiskey, vodka, gin and bourbon. The tastings were tasty from their hand crafted brews - the Lemon Basil Gimlet was our favorite but White Whiskey was also mighty fine. And then there are the fruit shrubs! Yum. We have passed by here many times, but today we finally decided to stop since we had family from Dallas, TX. Every single one of us were simply blown away by this place! The tastings were not only wonderful, but the owners son was so awesome and well informed that I was literally mesmerized by his knowledge and friendliness. I have always hated gin by itself, but their gin is wonderful and the whiskies and vodkas were equally wonderful! I cannot stress enough: if tastings and distilleries are a thing you like to do, you simply HAVE to put this place on your list. My boyfriend and I enjoy visiting local NW craft distilleries. Every distillery is unique. No two stills look alike. Sandstone Distillery was one of the most interestng and enjoyable distillery tours we have ever experienced. The owners are very proud of the history of Tennino which had a sandstone quarry that was owned by close family friends. We had no idea Tennino had such a rich history and thought it was great to honor the past with the name Sandstone. They are also passionate about their distilling and take great pride in their products. I thought their vodka was one the best locally crafted that I've had. The bacon vodka--I've never had it before and was amazed how great it was. My boyfriend liked the whisky and the gin. The rosemary vodka was unique--never have seen that at another distillery, and it was wonderful. We arrived late in the day and expected we'd have to leave quickly so they could close-up, but no. The distillers, father and son, were happy to tell us about how they make their spirits. It was very generous of them to share their time with us. Sandstone Distillery was awesome! A very small family owned business that makes vodka, gin, and whiskey. We were given a tour of their distillery and John was very informative and you could tell that he loves what he does. I usually don't drink gin, however, their gin is very mild and their black gin is amazing! My favorite is their whiskey. Overall, a fantastic experience at the distillery and an afternoon well spent learning about the process of distilling. My husband's family is from the area and even though we've visited many times in the past, we knew very little about Tenino. The history of Tenino that John shared was a very cool part of the tour.
