I had severe sciatic pain in my back and leg. I could barely walk it was so bad. I was hesitant to see a chiropractor because I've had some dodgy experiences with a few. I didn't want to get steroid injections or surgery, so I took a chance on Dr Sandy. I liked her immediately because she asked dozens of thorough questions before any treatment began, and she didn't try to sell me a bunch of stuff I didn't need. It was totally professional. She doesn't do any hard, rough adjustments. It is precise, methodical, and gentle. She saw me over a few weeks and gave me some stretches to do at home. After three weeks I was able to go back to work pain-free, and I just got back from a week of skiing. I felt great the whole time. I didn't think it was possible, but she did it. Dr. Sandy is wonderful! I had continuous problems with my neck and back for years. I tried other Chiropractors and although they were good, they were not able to help me with my specific problem. First off, I want to apologize to the yelp community for being completely remiss on writing reviews this past year. Grad school and other responsibilities finally caught up with me and I forgot how much I enjoy writing these reviews. I am sorry that I disappeared but I am back. So, for my return to the yelp-verse, I have decided that I will review one of the people that helped me feel better both physically and mentally. Ever since I was a child and attended my best friend's chiropractor appointments, all I have ever wanted is for someone to professionally crack my back. Imagine my complete surprise when Dr. Sandy did not pop my back for at least the first month of visits. I walked away from my first appointment slightly disappointed but feeling much better after a round of electrodes and back stretching, but no back popping. I kept coming back waiting to hear the snack, crackle, pop of my vertebrae snapping back into alignment. Every time I walked away a little more confused. Finally, I actually took in what Dr. Sandy was saying. "We will work through your muscle pain then work with the bone structure." Which translated into oh we'll put you in electrodes and then we'll crack your back later in my head. Then I actually thought about it and truly listened to what she was saying. She was not going to crack my back unnecessarily if that is NOT what my body and my back needs. She is concerned with over all back health and is also well qualified in physical therapy. She listens to your body and completely demystifies the chiropractic process. She approaches the body practically and does not rely on the flash and sound effects of an every day chiropractic charlatan. She is thorough and really gets to know her patients. In short, or not so short, she is the best chiropractor in Decatur, if not on the east side. Have you ever been so out of line you are almost horizontal when you walk, and your friends have to tilt their heads sideways to hear you talk? That was me not too long ago waking up in pain from my sleep. Sitting, standing, breathing, every move made me weep. I contacted Dr. Sandy after suffering through increasingly frequent neck pain. I hesitated to see a chiropractor as a previous experience in the 1980s had not gone so well. Dr. Sandy was able to get me into her clean and inviting office within one day of calling for an appointment. She spent a lot of time reviewing my medical history and took x-rays as well. She identified the source of the pain and, through repeated treatments and exercises, I am gaining more mobility and my pain level continues to decrease. I would highly recommend Sandy Chiropractic. I rarely write Yelp reviews, but Sandy Chiropractic deserves to be promoted on the world wide web. Last week, I threw out my back while traveling with my 3 month old. It was incredibly painful and I could not take typical medications because I was nursing. I do not normally have back issues, so when I returned to Atlanta, I had to find a chiropractor. My husband found Sandy Chiropractic through our BCBS insurance and made me an appointment. I was nervous, because I usually only go to providers when I have a personal recommendation... but I was also desperate. If you are in the same boat, maybe this review can serve as a "personal" recommendation. There is nothing worse than a back injury, so I want to pay it forward and help connect people in need to this exceptional health care provider. Throughout the years I have been to 3 other chiropractors and have had good to excellent experiences. Dr. Sandy surpassed all expectations and is by far the best chiropractor I've seen. On my first visit, she discussed my injury and where/how I was experiencing pain for about 30 minutes. She never rushed me and listened closely and took notes. Afterwards, she felt my back, and described to me in detail what exactly was going on. She did not do any big, scary cracks. Instead, she helped loosen my muscles with those electric vibrating pads and gave me an adjustment with just light pressure. She also gave me simple exercises to do at home every hour. When I came to see her the next day I felt so, so much better (I felt like it was a miracle... but it probably was just all in a days work for Dr. Sandy). She's worked with me all week and now I am able to carry my baby again. Her focus has been on how I can help myself recover and prevent this from happening again... all through simple exercises at home. I have improved an amazing amount in 5 visits and have learned a lot about my back and how to keep it healthy. Her office staff is fabulous and they made sure to get my in every day when I was in crisis. My wife found Dr. Sandy from good reviews on Yelp, and her good reviews are well deserved. I've had shoulder problems since high school, and they have been getting worse as I move into my mid 30's. I tried another chiropractor (right in Little 5 Points) but she was a brutal spine cracker who forgot that I had a shoulder problem and yanked hard on my arm to adjust my back. So I never went back to the L5P chiro. Dr. Sandy took the time to explain how my shoulder works. She took x-rays of my shoulder to make sure it wasn't arthritis. For my next several visits, she slowly and gently manipulated my shoulder. She is not just a back cracker. She is a healer with several tools at her disposal. She diagnosed the problem and slowly fixed it with reflexology, physical therapy, and manual manipulation. She works on both the muscles and the bones and has a great understanding of how the two work together and that healing requires fixing problems with both. My shoulder feels much better. I can sleep at night without waking up in pain because I laid on my shoulder wrong. She is always very nice and always remembers me and where we are at with the therapy. I have been to two other Chiropractors and there is no comparison to Dr. Sandy. She is the best Chiropractor. She took care of my problem in a fast, efficient way I had lower back pain with spasms, severe in the morning, but by afternoon I would feel much better. After about 4 weeks, I made an appointment with Dr. Sandy based on the reviews on Yelp. She did a very through examination, took x-rays, and asked a lot of questions. She also gave me exercises to do on my own. Two days later on our 2nd meeting she went over everything I told her on the first appointment and gave me some adjustments to the exercises I was now doing. The next morning I woke up about 95% better! I continued to see her with 4 more appointments over the next 3 weeks and felt like I was close to 100% better. I visited Dr. Sandy about 5 years ago after I took a nasty fall and hurt my lower back. After taking some x rays she say I had an injury to my L-5. She recommended I go to an ortho as she didn't want to do anything to injure it any further. I really appreciated her honesty up front. Fast forward five years, I get in an accident where I was rear ended. A few hours after the accident I noticed I had a tightness in my lower back, left hip and inside of my left knee. Not only was she gentle, she listened to what I had to say. She took her time and didn't just bend me like a pretzel. After a month she got me back to feeling like myself again. I just had my first of many more appointments with Dr. Sandy. My experience with her was overall exactly what I had hoped for. She was completely present and did not divide her time, she knows what she is talking about, she is gentle and very cordial. I felt comfortable with her the entire time. I had bad lower back pain which I thought was the result of a kidney infection...after visiting my MD and ruling that out I went home....then experienced labor like pains for over 10 min...and I am not talking about beginning labor I am talking about last hour or so..they were extreme back spasms after which I could barely walk....anyhoo my husband had found Dr. Sandy two weeks earlier by reading the reviews so she got me in an hour later. 3 days later I feel almost 100% everytime I go in I feel better..
