Dropped in to try out my new Glock. I'm not used to going to gun ranges (family has always owned hunting property), and this was the only second time for me going to one. Nerve racking in a sense, because you don't want to look like an idiot. Here are some pointers: - make sure you have safety glasses - make sure you have ear protection - you can rent or buy these items there - they have targets for purchase - you can get a membership there for $30/month and gain access to their lounge and utilize other weapons to practice with (plus eye and ear protection is included when you go) - they sell ammo The lanes were super clean and a space underneath the shooting area to store your bag. They have multiple indoor ranges, which I LOVED. This way if only 2-3 people are in there, you don't have to be in the same range. The two guys running it all up front were super cool. Easy small talk. I'll be back again, and possibly with my girlfriend and her damn pink 9mm gun (ok, she doesn't have one yet but that's what we plan to get her for protection). They are always super helpful, not pretentious, and easy to talk to and ask questions of. At SS Gun and Range everyone I've ever interacted with have been helpful, supportive and made what potentially could be a challenging interaction a pleasant, informative and smooth process. First off, you are not allowed to use your phone to record or take photos at this establishment. They are very strict on that aspect. Also, you need a valid government ID (like Passport or State ID/license) to shoot here. They are also heavy on the "seasoned shooters" aspect where they will turn you away if you have never held a gun before and have no training. They will push for you to take their in-house gun trainer or refer you to a different "more novice" gun range. Also, they have a membership program that they heavily rely on that is key to saving money to shoot here. Overall, prices of guns and ammos are reasonable considering the security and staff interaction you will receive from this establishment. read more

Be aware of the membership policy it is horrible. they give a great deal on the membership. but you cannot cancel online, you cannot cancel via email. you have to go to the location or print and mail paperwork. just a way them continuing to hit your credit card. Bad customer service on the membership front. read more

Fantastic experience! If you are new to firearms definitely go in on a quiet day. However, this is the go to spot for Firearm enthusiasts. Me and partner came in.. We were first asked if we were members. The front desk staff was very stand offish and so unhelpful. After learning we were not "experience or seasoned" (please note my partner owns his own guns) we were denied service. We were told they had no trainers on site nor would they even allow us to fill out waivers. I'm glad we didn't drive far, however my spouse had all of our equipment ready and was very excited. The staff recommended a place 30 min away. We will gladly take our business elsewhere and make sure all of our family and friends never go here. Which is unfortunate seeing as i work with a military charity who hosts the nations largest shooting competition. We will all go where we are welcomed. read more

I do have to say it is not my favorite though because the booth lane technology is outdated and the circulation moving through their was not as up-to-date as some other places I frequent. Great range and gun store. This is my go to range and gun store. There guys and gals are always pleasant. I don't typically go on weekends to ensure that I don't have to wait as it can get busy. On weekends it can get busy enough that you need to park in the rear...no biggie. The gun store has a very large selection in a fairly small amount of space. The staff behind the gun counter is very nice and knowledgeable. The thing that impresses me most is that even during the COVID inventory shortage, they maintained prices at or below SRP. While everyone else in town was jacking up prices, Sandy Springs maintained fair pricing, never creeping above SRP. For that reason, I remain loyal to them. read more

I want to start this review by saying this is by far the best range that I've experienced thus far. From the time you enter the building until you leave you are met with extraordinary customer service, the staff is knowledgeable of all weapons, ammunition, and gear in the store. The firearm instructors really emphasize safety and understanding the firearm and how powerful it truly is, when you finish with the instructor you will walk away with new knowledge even if you have experience in firearms, that's how outstanding these instructors are. The prices are very reasonable to other ranges I have visited and the other ranges didn't have close to the quality and standard of this establishment. All of the range targets worked well and we had zero issues here. You can tell management/ownership takes customer service seriously I will continue to come back and bring friends! read more

This place is okay and I really want to like it. But there are a few things that are bothersome. I was deeply disturbed when I found out a manager used an incorrect application of a ATF regulation because he would not sell a gun to black woman. This alone should make people wary of coming. And as a manager, he should have known that the straw purchase prohibition does not apply to spouses or corporate entities. Having people in the lobby with weapons in hand make me a little nervous. Not everyone treats firearm safety with the import it deserves. I don't appreciate getting swept while I am putting my ears on. The should use a basket or bag system like other ranges. They had no RSOs ( range safety officers) when I was there. As a result, you neighbors can ( and did) do stupid things with guns and there is no one to tell them it is not okay. They keep changing the hours and that's annoying. Not long ago they were open until 10 on the weekends, but when I recently went there late at night, the had moved back to 9. They have everyone's email, they should have sent out a notification. The ranges have typical problems with stuff coming apart and carriers not working. It takes them a while to fix broken range fixtures. That and dirty ranges give a really run down feel to a place. Though I realize the difficulty in keep a range looking pristine. As for the actual equipment, it is analog but that is just fine. I believe they have full-auto rentals. That is why they don't have the fancy digital carriers. They are not spec'ed for that. So it isn't the brand of equipment, it is the upkeep. The shooting shelves are very high. They should be at waist height. As a five foot tall woman, these things are almost up to my neck. And they have only a small chair in the bay. There anywhere to set your bags and cases except on the floor. Some tables and stools would be a welcome addition. Also, the shelves have no padding and exposed metal bits, so be wary of scratching your stuff. I dinged my watch on a screw head. The things i like: Their ammo is cheaper than most ranges. Ammo is high anyway right now so I like that their markup for common calibers is reasonable. Seems higher for ammo that isn't 9mm though. Great in stock selection of guns. 35 yard bay. Comfy lobby couches. The people are friendly (racist manager aside) If they just had all the new shooters in one place, and had an rso there, it would solve many of the issues. Also, this is really two stores, a range and a gun shop. So having a problem with the sales side doesn't make the range side a bad place necessarily. read more

This is NOT the place for new shooters. There is an old guy that is at the range check-in area that will offer NO ANSWERS and has an ATTITUDE. The gun community would call this guy SALTY, but he's just a jerk. I miss the old crew that worked here. They were polite, helpful, and informative. As the main face to customers, this old guy is not a good person to represent this range, and why I'll not come here again, especially with new shooters. The place has been restored and updated since their fire and subsequent closure, and it's under new management. The lanes were clean and others picked up after themselves. I noticed employees would randomly look in through the window to check up on what was going on in the lanes, so cleanliness, safety, and range etiquette is on those in the range area. Let's hope management figures out customer service is what they're selling. These folks also own the Norcross Gun Club & Range and Athens Gun Club. read more

I'm very happy that a gun range has re-opened at this location. Under New Management and ownership, the positive is that the employees are very nice and seem knowledgeable. What is inexcusable is the tacticle running and scheduling gun ranges. The new owners have at least three other ranges across Georgia so though this Sandy Springs site might be new, in general running a range isn't new to the owners. First, The benefits of a membership so far is limited to saving money on range costs; *it does not* afford you preferential treatment in pre- reserving lanes as it is all first come first serve, membership or otherwise. Again, as a member you do not receive range privileges over non-members, or walk ins. Second, because you have so many non-members shooting they're ignorant of how to keep a range clear a brass. Each time I've walked in I have had to get out the squeegee and clean up the brass left in my lane area from the previous shooter. This is dangerous as you could easily slip on the brass. With so many non-members there is no range etiquette and it is obviously not enforced. They also allow too many people on a single range lane. One Sunday I was in and there were three to four people at a given range lane. This makes the shooting area crowded and frankly more dangerous. There should be a limit of two Shooters per range lane. Frankly, the range area was so crowded I did not feel safe. I also did not see an employee in the range area for supervision and enforcement of range policies. In fairness they may have been an employee in the range but since it was so crowded I couldn't tell the difference between employees, spectators, or shooters. Finally, why are non Shooters allowed in the shooting range? Pros: It's open, and the employees. Cons: Little benefit to being a member (so far), too many non-members, little range supervision, too crowded in range area. Net-Net: I'm writing this publicly hoping that the managers and owners will make changes. I want this location to succeed but changes and crowd management and safety need to be made. read more

When in there with my friends and they were very rude. It seemed that they didn't like us there because of non disclosed reasons. They were very stand offish and they wouldn't let us get our own lane unless we became members. We ended up becoming members and there whole mood changed towards us. you want to feel safe and respected when you go to ranges, especially as a minority . It's a nice facility that isn't being run as well as the previous ownership. It's clientele has declined and the owner isn't enforcing range rules. As a matter of fact, I don't remember seeing a range officer overseeing any of the ranges/lanes. Shooters are going there to have "fun." And while I firmly believe a good day at the range can be fun, the purpose of going to a range is to train - marksmanship and gun safety. It's not to waste ammo spraying shots all over the paper when you haven't been taught how to shoot safely. I have a 14 year old daughter that groups within 1.5" at 35 yards and demonstrates a higher level of gun safety than the majority of shooters I've seen here over the past number of months. Today, another shooter was in the same range as I was. Not a completely bad shot - at 20 feet. But he took off his hearing protection to talk on his phone in an enclosed/indoor shooting range where it is clearly posted on the table at each lane that phones are prohibited. When I left, I mentioned it to the clerk who was more interested in watching movies... His reply was "well, he signed a waiver." That was the last straw. I cancelled my membership. If they don't care about people violating range rules, I don't want to be there when it's a safety issue that ends up putting someone in the hospital. read more

Had a family membership here and typically spoke to James who had always been beyond stellar. Always kind and helpful and spoke about builds and was highly informed. I was a little wary about cancelling as some places grind you down. I had to cancel due to some life changes and the cancellation was a seamless beyond easy process. Knowing how a company reacts when you break ties shows you their true grit. These folks are stand up and made this extra cash easier for me right now. Thanks guys for being upright. read more

I've been to this range several times and have no complaints. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The only thing that sucks is you might get stuck next to some asshole in the next lane with a short barrel AR with a muzzle brake doing mag dumps on man sized target from 10 yards. If you've never had hot gas expelled directly in your face it's enough to ruin an otherwise fun experience. Even doubling up on ear protection my hearing is still muffled a day later. I could see how this might turn people away that may be new to shooting and the sport. Please be considerate of other shooters, don't be "that asshole". read more

Been going here since they reopened and thought about joining. That changed today when I was asked to leave because my shoes were a "safety hazard". I have always worn the same shoes in the past (closed toe'd Croc's) but was told Croc's are banned. Told me to go get some boots on if I wanted to shoot. I passed and went down the road to the Norcross Range. No problem. I won't be back to this range and will not give them any more of my firearm/ammo/range business. read more

This place is right by my house and I am a member I pay 40$ a month for a membership for me and my girlfriend. The employees are always in a really good mood and I have spent enough time in the store/range to know all of their names... the employees are great and gun prices are reasonable. Ammo is a little on the high side, but hey ammo is expensive everywhere right now. So this is my one con, would be nice to see some updates to the stalls and the equipment. There has been more then one occasion where I have come in and the stall I was using wouldn't bring the target back in or wouldn't send it out. At the same time I go to the range about once a week so more then your average joe. Overall I really love this place and the thing that stands out to me the most is how nice the employees are I've never had a single problem with any employee, and they have always been happy to help me anytime I needed anything. read more

I'm a member and think this place is great. I've been a member at several indoor and outdoor ranges and there is always a balance between being too restrictive with rules and not being restrictive enough. Sandy Springs Gun and Range has found a very good balance. As long as you are safe and competent you can do some real practice here. The staff is helpful and reasonably knowledgeable. Ventilation is good and the place is kept clean. Sure, you may have to sweep the brass out of your lane when you start if it's a busy time, but we are all big boys and girls and should be able to handle it. And no, it's not dangerous, because... you sweep it out. LOL! P.S. I have no idea why this shows my location as California. read more

Came looking to rent a lane, but the associate said the lanes were for "seasoned shooters" only, and that there were no trainers on site to train us, so we were denied service. We had finished our beginner handgun training session 3-4 weeks ago at a different range and were looking to grow the hobby. We are not spending $200 (for more beginner training) just to be given the opportunity to rent a lane. I understand the associate didn't want to take a risk with someone who may seem new to shooting, however he didn't even bother to test our knowledge of shooting etiquette and safety. He just assumed we needed the training and wouldn't let us rent unless we took it. read more

Just spoke to somebody at the phone and absolutely not would not recommend this store as a vet just in real can't help someone sight there fire arm because they didn't buy it from them then I asked them well what if I wanna use the rang like buy service to use the rang e and if I'm not hitting anything would y'all or could y'all help me sight the rear sight ? The man says wells I guess but then again we are gonna be busy and blah blah blah. And not gonna do it just in real what type of business works like that especially in Sandy springs. Dilapidated ranges target machinery doesn't work, went today to go shooting as I have a Sandy Springs guns about once a month for the last six months. Some heavyset employee with a long beard and his phone glued to his ear started helping me At the gun range check out but that quickly changed when a young lady came over to the counter and he pond me off to her. Before he did that he asked me if I was law-enforcement I said that I was a retired investigator and had gotten a discount every time prior, the young lady rang me up $24 for a dilapidated range three targets and a set of ears. I asked the young lady if I got a discount and the heavyset male employee with the beard quickly unplugged his phone from his ear and stated that I wasn't a police officer and they only give discounts to police officers? I was pretty surprised because every time prior I had gotten a discount and I was in the system all he had to do if he took time to unplug his phone from his ear and look!!! But I guess that was too much for him as he walked away muttering something or maybe he was talking to someone on his phone because the young lady told me that "He always does that".... Talks on the phone with his Bluetooth earpiece when customers are around very professional. At any rate a big disappointment... I spent about 10 minutes testing out my new weapons for function and walked out with two untouched targets, there were two gentleman standing there checking in and I gave the Two targets to them. I walked over to the sales floor and saw some ammo which was overpriced I was going to buy some but I said to myself why should I after the crappy service I have received, but I must say the young lady wearing a ponytail whose name I do not know was very friendly and very nice. I will not be coming back, and neither should you don't waste your time go up the street on Alfreda highway there's another shooting range call sharpshooters they are very nice and very professional they have a range master and all their equipment works to a T. As I was walking out I was thinking, what if I would've told the uninterested men with the earpiece stuck to his head that I was a federal agent or some other type of law enforcement may be a marshal or a forest service officer fishing game whatever? I don't think this guy was ever the sharpest pencil in the box because he is very offensive he should get that phone out of his here and pay attention to what he's doing and Not piss people off because to be honest with you I am not happy not because I didn't get the discount that I should've gotten but because he was on un interested with an attitude, I'll tell all my friends to go to sharpshooters and everybody I talk to. I hope the discount that you didn't give me the money that your establishment said which will probably four bucks and the attitude was worth this review.
