    How I really feel

Do not give your business to these people. They still charged my Credit Card even though I did not stay there! I had initially made reservations on the 8th of June for beginning a stay starting June 13th. As I am working in the area on a temporary contract . Upon check in at 10 pm at night I was shocked that the room that was initially $94 a night had increased to $330.00 due to graduation in the area. I spent 25 minutes at the front desk speaking to a very nice and extremely helpful young lady named Zen, who informed me that she understood my position and that I would not be charged for the room as she didn't see any charges placed on the CC used to hold the room. It was during this exchange that I believed that would continue to be the case and left with a business card to follow up if need be. Imagine my surprise when I checked the following week to see the charge was not only there on my credit card but whomever I spoke with when I called and inquired as to why, when I was told different the night I was there. I told them had I been made completely aware, which I was not, that my credit card was going to be charged regardless I would have had to stay and deal with the price gouging. There was no attempt to reverse the charges or ANY type of customer service when it came to this whole exchange. I have disputed the charge with my bank. When I told the woman who I was on the phone with I would be leaving a negative review on every site I could, her response was, "Its a free country, you are entitled to your free speech and opinion." At which point after having her talk over me the entire conversation to try and justify this, I hung up. If I could have left zero stars I would have. Absolutely no reason this should have happened and the amount of miscommunication is beyond comprehension

    Cockroach

ROACHES!!!! I woke up at 1 am to a COCKROACH running across my pillow. The night staff Reuben told me "that's nature" and was extremely dismissive, told me he couldn't find a new room or refund me. It's actually a significant health hazard and they can spread! When I showed him the picture of the roach in the room he tried to GRAB my phone. Then he said "It looks like it might be an animal or something." I had to walk at 1am to the motel 6 down the street (Which was sooooo much nicer!!!) The manager never called me back and it's been weeks, I'm pretty sure they blocked my phone number. Luckily I booked through a third party who was able to give me a refund because I'm sure if I booked directly through the hotel they wouldn't have given me a refund. The staff was incredibly rude. Do not recommend at all. It's sad I wanted to support a small business but unfortunately this place is not worth it.

Loved our quick trip out to Carpenteria! Our room smelled so clean and looked perfect. It had a fridge, microwave and blow dryer. The tv was nice and big and we loved the jacuzzi. There's two spots to bbq and eat with picnic tables. Will definitely stay again!

I normally do not post anything negative about places because I believe in businesses (especially small) and for most of the time you will get an apology or see that staff is doing their best. This is my exception after speaking to the manager Ivy regarding my families stay at this motel. She's unprofessional, she's rude, she takes no accountability for the state of this motel and I hope the owner reads this as their motel actually has a lot of potential and would do better with a different manager... Let's start with we arrived in Carpinteria on Saturday and called the motel at 3:40 pm (check in policy is 4 pm) asking if rooms were ready. We were told they were not so we just hung around town for another 20 minutes. Arrived at motel a few minutes after 4 and officially checked in according to receipt at 4:18 pm. We had 3 rooms booked. ALL 3 rooms were still being cleaned. 2 became available by 4:45 so then we were waiting for one more.. went to desk, got another room yeah that room wasn't clean so then had to get another room but downsized to queen bed versus king because the king wouldn't be clean until after 5. Fine let me just get in my room already. There is a $100 security deposit in case you leave a stain. WHAT does that even mean? LOL. Please see picture below because I'd like to know if they will pay me back for my stains as I came with a brand new pair of socks and after walking on the floor of room my socks were done! Room has no dresser or place to put clothes so had to use luggage rack and just keep items in bag. Really not a big deal to me. Overall room has potential. Bathroom floor was beyond gross. No pool or jacuzzi as under construction. As we left I wanted to speak to manager about just getting refund for the difference of rate from king size to queen size room. Full disclosure, my son and future daughter in law both teachers booked for our two families to have this weekend to celebrate their engagement. As teachers every penny counts so to me it was only fair they get a refund of rates. Asked for manager. This is where it became comical. Ivy only comes into work 3 days a week. Okay I'll call. The staff of this motel are all friendly and funny and doing their best for sure but the manager Ivy.. Ivy.... 1. Says to me that it is normal to wait an hour or more after check in to get into your room. Says to me after I informed her I've never had to wait an hour or longer for a reserved room that I haven't traveled much then. Says to me that my party was being impatient asking to check in at 4 or even 4:45 for our RESERVED 4 pm reservation. Says to me that she owes us no refund or discounted rate because at end of the day they accommodated us. The conversation was beyond frustrating and showed her lack of professionalism, character and care for her position. She's rude and misinformed. The only time she took a step back is when I informed her I would indeed be calling Better Business Bureau as she wasn't clearly understanding she was violating their own policies including ADA laws in bathroom. I don't expect perfect but I do expect when you are in charge you take responsibility. if your customers were not satisfied with a stay, it IS reasonable IVY for a guest to check into their room at the motels check in time and not be happy after waiting an hour. It is reasonable IVY if your motel cannot accommodate your customer with a room they paid for and reimburse them the rate difference for a downgraded room. I hope the owners sees this review and evaluate who they have in charge because this motel really has the potential and the staff I saw on site were friendly. They could do a better job than Ivy with their great attitudes. Heck I could manage from my home 2 hours away better than Ivy.

We enjoyed our stay at Sandyland Reef Inn. Looks like the inside was freshly painted. Bed was comfortable, no bugs . I requested the main floor and they accommodated us. My only complaint and it wasn't a big deal. We went to checkin at 3:15. Stood in line filled out the paperwork and then he told us to come back at 4:00 to pick up the key, so we came by later and stood in line again. Seems like there should be a more efficient way to do it. But we definitely will stay there again.

We took the train from San Diego. When the train stopped we got a call from the hotel saying they are going to cancel our reservation if we didn't show up in an hour. We reserved it through booking.com . We had to speedwalk a couple miles with our luggage to get there in time because there were no Uber's or taxi's near by.. The room was very dirty and the night staff was rude. We later found out he was the manager. They offer coffee in the morning, but it's instant coffee and the hot water comes from a kurig. ... Only hot water. You have to add your instant coffee pack after the kurig gives you hot water. We are world travelers and this was a horrible hotel

This used condom was hanging over the light fixture when my girlfriend, and I arrived at our king suite.

This place is absolutely disgusting. A used condom was hanging over a light fixture when we walked into our king suite. When I called the manager, they would not refund or give us a different room. They sent a kid in to pick up the used condom that was full of semen hanging right over the bed. They would not give a refund and said that we probably planted it there. This was my third time staying there within a few months. Worst motel ever. Do not stay here. I hope you guys go out of business.

Arrived early and I Can't check in til after 4:00pm! & Out by 11am. Our room smelled like urine. They do not clean the place correctly! Seems like they spray some kind of disinfectant to make it seem as if it was cleaned!! The smell is strong at first u have to air the place out. Then night comes and the smell of urine kicks in!! I wish I would had read the reviews before staying there. I have a few pictures of a hair on bathtub! Unsanitary. To make matters worse I Woke up to bites on legs.

My mom books our room through their website, actually their website. When we go to check out she asks for a printout of the incidentals as usual. She looks it over and informs the guy at the front desk that this was not her bill because she paid $100 more for the room and the credit card shown was not hers. She also did not book through Expedia. The guy looks it over and says it was her statement and that sometimes Expedia makes their website look like the hotel's (if this is true it sounds illegal and if it is legal wtf). He also said the lower amount that was on the statement is what Expedia pays them and that's the card Expedia uses. All very weird! In the end we paid $100 more for the room, not sure how to get this resolved. The guy at the front desk seemed knowledgeable about this, yet wasn't too interested in helping. Also, room 25 had lots and lots of fruit flies in it; like 20+ flying around everywhere.

There is a table right at the window so you can enjoy dining/reading/sitting with an incredible and private VIEW! This time we got the only accommodation that has TWO rooms-- so it felt like a small apartment without a kitchen! It's extra spacious and allowed everyone to have their privacy. The rooms are SUPER cute! Yes, the furniture is old. Yes, it looks like grandma's house. But from someone who has stayed in luxury resorts most of the time, these charming and timeless rooms have a special place in my heart. I'm not even sure if this makes sense, but the ambiance welcomes you with open arms and makes you feel right at home. It truly feels like I came to grandmas house. It feels so familiar and I know for a fact, staying here is healing my inner child each time. We all know the views are absolutely incredible-- I mean... breakfast buffet overlooking the cliffs AND you can watch surfers and dolphins in the distance while you enjoy your food? Can't get better than that. You can go visit the shore during low tide or walk over to the pier that leads to an island! This hotel is tucked away from the city and I absolutely love the seclusion. Although it's right next to the highway, staying here feels like stepping into a peaceful parallel universe-- the world still moves on the other side of the wall, but you're suspended in your own quiet, dreamlike bubble until it's time to return to reality. The service is too notch! She has gone out of her way to accommodate us and never made any request feel like it was too much or an inconvenience. If you thought this place couldn't get any better, it DOES-- they have a Restaurant that serves lunch and dinner!!! Let me stop before I write a novel. This has literally become my favorite hotel.

The garden and suites are all beautifully arranged on the property, the garden had a beautiful layout, the pool and jacuzzi were amazing (seriously amazing), and our dog had just as much fun as we did. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. The suite was clean, the TV had an HDMI cable that we were able to hook our computer up to to watch Netflix, the bed was very comfy and clean, and bathroom was very clean, and the overall space was exactly what we were looking for. There are enough parking spots for all of the guests, and all of the guests were very low-key and pleasant to be around. Although all of the suites were rented out we actually barely ran into everyone and it felt as if we had the entire area to ourselves. I think one of the biggest perks on top of all these amenities is that our dog was allowed to enjoy the place just as much as we were. We are looking forward to another reason to take a trip up to Santa Barbara/Montecito area so we can stay here again! I would definitely recommend this place.

The tilework is beautiful, the fountain used to be beautiful, the outdoor spaces used to be cozy. Just standing in the lobby, looking at the bookshelves, drag racing model and old victrola, gives a glimpse of the owner's personality 10 years ago, but now there's a feeling of neglect and waiting for someone else to take over. Maybe the couple who put it together had a falling out, maybe they're living in another country or maybe it's a COVID business casualty that never recovered, but the place feels like it's in a slow death spiral. The front desk person is there for limited hours, the "breakfast" consists of cereal dispensers and cookies/muffins which were the same in quantity and distribution over the two days we stayed (implying that they weren't getting restocked) The room was suitably prepared with cute folding of the towels but the walls had damage and anchor holes where things had been mounted in the past but their prior location was not patched. No one made up our room nor changed towels and sheets. Honestly, the place fit the bill for our stay, filling a niche between the motel 6 and the countless air B&Bs, and with a little better management and some upgrades, you have the potential to really get it right with your original vision, but it looks like it's just not the right time for the current owners. I wish them well and if there are new owners, I hope they are able to carry on with the initial vision that is evident in the decor of the lobby.
