Ocean front lounge chairs
Debra R.

Another wonderful stay at this oceanfront hotel, complete with dolphins and warm sunshine. Do close to Ventura, it is easy to pack a picnic and spend Monday night when the restaurant is closed, so overnighters have a private pool and lounge chairs to enjoy the view without the bustle. The restaurant is also a good one every other lunch and dinner every other night. We were happy to see new solid doors and electronic locks along with new windows that cut the freeway noise. We opened our window to hear the waves crashing in all night, as if you are sleeping on the beach. October and November have lower prices, and the weather is fine.

Love this place, can't get closer to the waves!

I have loved the Cliff House Inn for more than 40 years, since I stopped by when I saw it was being refurbished by it's new owner. It is a unique place on the California coast. Nowhere else can you be this close to the pounding surf and relax just feet above the breakers! The rooms all face the ocean, just 60 or 70 feet from the escarpment. I have watched dolphins, seals and even whales swimming offshore. Relaxing on the lounge chairs here, just feet from the cliffside, reading and enjoying a drink are one of my happy places.

I come here a few times a year with my boyfriend, and we love It. The hotel is small and has some wear, but the environment is very relaxing and calm. The rooms are comfortable and quaint. The restaurant below is very good, and the option to sit outside with the ocean view is wonderful.

Spectacular view with lunch

The view is spectacular on the patio overlooking the Pacific. Beautiful palm trees and a sparkly pool add to the ambience. It was busy during my visit and service was slow. The burger and fries were delicious. The Cobb salad was good but not great. I'd go again for the view.

We have eaten at the restaurant several times now. And absolutely Love the Food, Service, and VIEW! We were determined to stay here next visit . So, we booked a 2 room Suite . Perfect for our adult son to have his own space ( Room 18) . The room was clean and cozy. Fridge and Fan . An older establishment- so don't expect ultra fancy . It's beautiful and hearing the waves crash is just pure bliss . Probably the best views we have had . Nice Staff . Next visit we will bring some beach towels and blanket . Love Love this Gem .

Total hidden gem just off the 101 in Ventura. Feels like a time warp in the best way--think '60s beach motel meets vintage Hawaii. Super peaceful, no road noise, just ocean waves right outside your window (which you can actually open!). Rooms are clean, vibe is chill, views are unreal. Great dinner spot downstairs and free continental breakfast. Only gripe: no in-room coffee and none available till 7:30am. Still, I'd come back in a heartbeat.

We went for our Anniversary and this place is special to us! My husband and I have been five times counting this time. We Love the view and we ate at the restaurant there again. The food is always good. This time I noticed that the room looked old. Dresser was missing knobs, the bed headboard and dresser had stains on it.The heater on the wall looked like it was coming off the wall, looked old and had rust on it. It just looks like the room needs some renovation and painted. The tv signal kept going out on the tv, don't know what that was about?

What a beautiful hotel the views are just amazing !!!! most definitely coming back soon :) the only downside the WiFi sucks and there's no A/C other than that great place to get away .

Pretty spot for the night!

Since i was only in the hotel/restaurant for about 6 hours to beat the pre thanksgiving traffic, i will combine the restaurant and hotel. The hotel is a little gem midway between Montecito and Ventura. Literally right off the highway. Incredible views and part of it is Shoals restaurant that has the same views and wonderful food. Lovely service and equally fine menu of fish to steak to matching fantastic sauces. Wine list and small but all you need liquor selection. For me it was a nice Makers Mark, fresh pea soup with ham and the swordfish special. Ok and the crazy good cheesecake! A perfect weekend or vacation getaway!!!

The place is beautiful, great views. The room did not have AC, but did have a fan. The accommodations were great, the rooms were clean and they have a jacuzzi in the room. The pool was nice and clean. There is breakfast available in the morning, and the beach is accessible by foot. The restaurant has delicious food. The female waitress was nice, the male not so much, claimed to be full but there were tables available. The cleaning crew were very friendly and helpful as well as the front desk personnel. Not all guest are as polite as I would have hope, multiples times we greeted the guests (mainly old Caucasian men) without receiving a response. Then a group of female guests came up to us and pointed their flashlights without acknowledging us. Maybe they're not use to seeing Latinos as guests? Lol Otherwise we had a great experience.

If you need sterility, this isn't for you. It's older, shabby chic, awesome. The employees are stellar, accommodating, and welcoming. As you can see from the 5 million photos the view is bitchin!! The food in the restaurant is amazing. The coconut shrimp is delicious. The fish specials are killer! The goat cheese salad! The flourless chocolate cake OH MY GOD!! Pesto fettuccine, YUM!!! Servers are great! Tip them well. They work hard! Please, Cliff House stay the way you are! You're perfect! This is the only place we come and we love everything about it.

This place was literally magical. So peaceful and I felt more relaxed than I have in years. The ocean front views from the room gave not just great views of the ocean but the sounds were so amazing and calming. The entire staff were some of the nicest most welcoming people I've encountered. This was a trip for my birthday and I do not use the word perfect often, but this stay and entire experience was literally perfect! I couldn't recommend more and will be adding this as my go to for all vacations!

This is a cute hotel, right on the ocean situated between Ventura & Carpenteria. I stayed 2 night & it was very quiet & relaxing. The breakfast was good. Staff were nice & helpful. The room was clean & the bed was comfortable. There are lounge chairs & there were a pod of dolphins that swam by which was nice to see & also some seals.

Ask the Community - Cliff House Inn

Is there a bar?

The Shoals Restaurant has a great selection of wines and a more limited list of beers and hard alcohol cocktails. Not really a bar though, so we bring our "bar bag" when we stay at the Cliff House.

Are There Elevators To The Floors?

No. Lobby and some rooms on main level.

Room with best view?

1 or 12 in my opinion

Are dogs allowed?

No dogs allowed it's on their website.

Can u pay cash?

I have paid cash for my stay, many years ago. But you need a card to make a reservation. Several times, when having lunch we've decided spur of the moment to stay the night. Didn't need a credit card those times.

How many floors are there? is it just 2 stories? some photos it looks like 3. Im trying to ascertain which room number would be on highest story as I hate having anyone above me. thanks!

The rooms are on the top two floors, the restaurant is on the first floor. The best rooms are numbers 1, 11, 12 and 24 with a big picture window that looks over the ocean.

We came on a Saturday early afternoon and started at one of their restaurants. The food was amazing, but service was definitely on the slower side. The resort is huge and has so many activities tennis, golf, bike rentals and more. After that, we headed over to the spa and spent the rest of the day relaxing by the pool. The vibe was so calm, mostly women just chatting, unwinding, and enjoying each other in this peaceful little paradise. We ordered smoothies poolside and omg...so fresh and refreshing. Service at the spa pool was great, everyone seemed to be working together seamlessly and checking in often without being overbearing. Definitely one of those spots I'd come back to anytime I need a reset from LA.

For many years, Ojai Valley Inn was one of my favorite destinations. I have stayed at the resort…read moreseven or eight times and always considered it a special place to celebrate important occasions. Unfortunately, after my recent experience, I do not plan to return. For Father's Day weekend, I booked what I hoped would be a memorable getaway for my husband and me. I prepaid $5,364.45 for a two-night stay in a Deluxe King with a View Room. In addition, I made dinner reservations at the resort's fine dining restaurant, scheduled a golf outing for two because my husband loves golf, and booked a couples massage. I was genuinely looking forward to a special and relaxing weekend. On June 5, I searched for Ojai Valley Inn on Google and called the phone number that appeared online. Unbeknownst to me, I was connected to a third-party reservation company called Hotel Reservations rather than the resort directly. I received a confirmation email that included Ojai Valley Inn's name, a confirmation number, an itinerary number, and proof of payment. After driving nearly three hours from Newport Beach to the resort, I was shocked to learn that Ojai Valley Inn could not locate my reservation. I presented all of my documentation and confirmation details, yet after nearly an hour of waiting, the issue remained unresolved. I contacted Hotel Reservations while standing at the front desk, and they confirmed that a reservation existed in their system. Unfortunately, the third-party company and the hotel were unable to reconcile the discrepancy. What disappointed me most was not the reservation issue itself, but the hotel's response. The front desk associate assisting us was kind, empathetic, mentioned they will have a room available for us, and appeared genuinely committed to finding a solution. However, when the front desk manager, Morgan Giuseponi, became involved, I felt that very little effort was made to accommodate us despite our circumstances. Given our longstanding history with the resort, our prepaid reservation, and the fact that we already had dining, golf, and spa reservations on property, I expected some attempt to help us remain at the resort. Instead, we were informed that the hotel was fully booked and were advised to seek accommodations elsewhere. Whether the issue originated with the third-party booking company or elsewhere, I had hoped Ojai Valley Inn would demonstrate the level of hospitality and problem-solving that luxury resorts are known for. Rather than allowing the situation to ruin Father's Day weekend, we chose to stay at Rosewood Miramar Beach instead. Fortunately, the experience there was exceptional. From the moment we arrived, the service was warm, attentive, and proactive. The contrast in customer care was impossible to ignore. Luxury hospitality is not measured by how a property performs when everything goes according to plan. It is measured by how it responds when something goes wrong. In this case, I left feeling that Ojai Valley Inn was unwilling to help a loyal, repeat guest during a difficult situation. This experience was deeply disappointing and has permanently changed my perception of a resort I once loved. While the reservation issue may not have been entirely the hotel's fault, the lack of effort to find a solution certainly was. For that reason, I will not be returning.

During breakfast the first morning, there was an older couple, and the wife burned her finger on the waffle maker. She then got pissed and started yelling at her husband because he didn't react the way she thought he should. Then a second couple came in the next morning, and they were fighting too! People seemed to be disturbed by something here. During the second night is when things got interesting. About 1:30 am I was awoken randomly. As I laid there in bed, I could hear some very loud but muffled screaming. It was a man's voice. I sounded like English, but I couldn't understand it, even though I should have been able to. As the screaming and yelling continued, it sounded like a large bowling ball was being thrashed around the room. It rattled the wall as I had my ear pressed up against it trying to figure out what the in the hell was going on. It was pretty scary, and I don't scare easily. It's actually really hard to explain and convey what I heard and felt. This went on and on, as I debated waking up my wife and getting out of there. It was at that point I decided to pray. I said, Jesus, please make whatever that is stop so I know my wife and son will be okay. The very second I ended my prayer, the noise stopped completely. I was really surprised, which led me to believe that may have been a spirit because the prayer ended that nonsense immediately. I used about the $25 fee nor did they quote that when I called the day before they just said call after 9 AM.
