Everything was great. I love how quiet this hotel is with great views of the ocean. Everything is pretty walkable within just a few minutes and I highly recommend it. The front desk staff was super sweet they communicate via text and it truly makes everything easier it's like talking to a friend Room I think the room was perfect I hate really modern hotels and so with this bed-and-breakfast vibe it feels a lot more cozier and still clean. 10 out of 10 for me and I will definitely be back for the strawberry festival in the area and I'll stay here

We have come here several times. It's well situated and has a lot of ambiance. The price is fair during the week, compared to other Bed & Breakfast establishments. This time, we were one of a few couples staying there. We reserved the king room with a sea view. The view was great of the sunset. The train is loud at night so be prepared for that. If the door is closed, the noise is not a problem. They serve a continental breakfast which was just okay. Coffee was great. Nothing to write home about. The afternoon wine and cheese also just mediocre, but it's complimentary so we can't complain. At night from 7-8pm, cookies and tea/coffee. Excellent. The room was comfortable, for winter months there's a fireplace. Some things needed to be updated, bathroom sink, outside tables, but for the most part, this place is really worth the money. The staff is really helpful and they make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Also there's a jacuzzi which is awesome. So it's a yes for us. We've been coming here for the last 15 years and love it here, as well as the community. It's delightful to stay here. Well recommend.

The dust and result of allergies

This hotel is seemingly very cute and in a beautiful location. Unfortunately I had the worst stay I have ever had at a hotel here. We checked into our room in the evening and went out to dinner without really checking the room. When we got back we got ready for bed and started having terrible reactions to the dust in the room. It obviously had not been cleaned well at all or not stayed in for a significant amount of time. We both were unable to sleep with terrible allergies. The road noise which seems to be the biggest complaint was the least of our concern. I am not even allergic to dust but my sinuses were clogged and I felt awful. My fiance however was not so lucky she had a reaction that made her asthma worse, she couldn't sleep and has had trouble breathing all day. Her eye was swollen and she is genuinely sick. We checked out of the hotel by 8am and they refused to cancel our reservation for the following night despite seeing her swollen red eye and coughing. This place is a disgusting trap.

I decided to escape here for the weekend, and I absolutely loved it!! Staff were very welcoming and kind, and the complementary items available were so appreciated! I will definitely be coming back when I need a peaceful environment to unwind, and I can't wait to visit here again!

Centipedes on bathroom floor (we found 2)

Beautiful hotel, nice rooms, super comfortable bed. However, if you are somebody like me who has problems sleeping with noise... this might not be the best choice. Lots of noise throughout the night since it's by a freeway. Loud bells, and trains going throughout the whole night. Also, found centipedes in the bathroom which was disturbing.

I just checked in with my niece who came from France to visit the region, I saw their website when I booked and honestly the pictures looked amazing. What a disappointment it is when you show up. First of all I am being greeted by a gentleman who was quickly annoyed by my confusion and disappointment at the place. He immediately asked me to give them my credit card and ID to cover the other half of this day. Then he proceeded to tell me that there was no housekeeping available for stays under 3 days. Last I was handed a key and instructed to bring my luggage up the stairs where my room was. The room has a balcony right above the highway yes facing the Ocean and overlooking a construction site with a large yellow Caterpillar. This beauty it's costing me $400 per night. Beware of misrepresenting websites and pictures!

Brought to our room. Normally $5 per person if you want this additional service but was free for us because we were the only guests there.

This was my first experience at a bed and breakfast, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but I was genuinely blown away. The service, cleanliness, hospitality, and overall attention to detail exceeded every expectation. The rooms were charming, comfortable, and uniquely decorated, while the property itself is beautiful and impeccably maintained. The staff was incredibly friendly, responsive, and always easy to reach by phone or text. The breakfast deserves special recognition. Every meal was homemade, absolutely delicious, and honestly worthy of an award. It was one of the highlights of our stay. The inn also features a gorgeous garden and outdoor space that creates a peaceful, secluded atmosphere while still being conveniently located. State Street's shops and restaurants are within walking distance, and the beach is just a short drive away. As someone who typically prefers staying in upscale hotels, I was initially skeptical, but my girlfriend chose the Cheshire Cat Inn and I'm so glad she did. It offered a much more personal, intimate, and memorable experience than a traditional hotel. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Santa Barbara!

And at least for some rooms, the views are phenomenal! So one star for the service, one for the view - if you pick the right room - make sure to ask! Unfortunately, the grounds really, really need a landscaping overhaul. Similarly, the room interiors and window coverings seem tired. Their "European" breakfast seemed no better than a Holiday Inn Express. A lot of it is prepackaged stuff. The "assorted cheeses" are identical to the pre-sliced packaged stuff from Vons as is the bread and bagels. The only effort put into appears to be the hard-boiled eggs (unpeeled, of course). They could easily step it up several notches by sourcing pastries from locals, making oatmeal to serve, and getting a decent cheese and meat selection, but after the second disappointing day of the exact same thing we headed to town for breakfast. For us, the most off-putting thing was all the ridiculous signs everywhere! We counted 22 separate signs from driving in the entrance to opening the door to our room - four or five were helpful. And then there's all the signage IN your room (did you really need to label the ice bucket as "Ice Bucket"???). It seems like someone just went to town with a label maker and laminator. Maybe just us, but we felt it was tacky, unnecessary and detracting.

The hot, homemade breakfast prepared by Adriana each morning far exceeded our expectations--so much more than the standard continental breakfast. Every dish was made with care and felt truly special. Both Adriana and Jim were exceptional hosts--warm, welcoming, and incredibly accommodating. They made us feel less like guests in their own home and more like part of their extended family. Their charm and genuine hospitality set this place apart. While a bit of light maintenance could be done in some areas, it's easily overshadowed by the outstanding service and the overall experience. We're so glad this was our first BnB stay--it set the bar high!

Jim was there to meet us and show us our room. We got The Cowboy Room on the second floor (no live cowboys included! ) which we selected so that we could have separate beds. The room was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. There were no other guests, so we had the whole floor to ourselves. It was super quiet and peaceful. I imagine it would be different if there was a house full guests. Jim gave us suggestions on things we could do and places to visit. He also gave us the code for the door, the wifi password, and warnings about bears. We opted to walk around the area and enjoyed a fantastic dinner at The Perch restaurant just a few minutes walk down the road. Coffee was available at 8 the next morning, Adriana made breakfast ready by 830am. We had eggs in hash brown cups, sausages, maple scones, toast with a variety of spreads, and fresh orange juice. Everything was delicious. Sorry I didn't take pictures, I was too busy eating! I was able to eat everything on the table. I had mentioned our list of food allergies upon reserving online and also emailed the list closer to the date. The communication was excellent. I would love to stay at Old Bear B n B again. Thank you, Jim and Adriana, for making us feel so comfortable and welcome.
