I love junk and you can find great treasures at Sanford and Son. Every Friday, Sanford opens the doors to shelves of estate finds. Now priced at $2 per item, you can find great deals. We have purchased antique prints, glassware and WWII memorabilia. But you have to get there early. Doors open at 9:00 and people start lining up as early as 6:00 a.m. The line starts at the west door. The regulars bring "sold" stickers and quickly place them on items as they are enter the building. Parking is limited and tight. The building also houses an antique mall with a broad arrange of east coast antiques. Ask for a 10 percent discount if you pay by cash or check on items over $25. Friday Morning 10am: The most insane things I have seen in a while. The patrons who have obviously have been there many times before, are rude and inconsiderate. The run in and throw Everything onto the "sold" table. They don't care about anybody else or the merchandise. They throw what they don't want to the side, open boxes and don't close them and refuse to get out or someone else's way, they are literally like vultures picking bones clean. The store itself is nice, the owner is friendly and the employees are pleasant, its the "regulars" that really make this place suck. If your interested in shopping there on Friday morning bring you and 10 of your closest friends and start standing in line at 8:30am. As soon as u enter grab EVERYTHING you might suspect as valuable. I absolutely love this place and I stop in almost every weekend. This isn't your average thrift store. They have new items in constantly, and I've never seen anything there that could be considered "junk." Well, that's not entirely true. They do have a $1 rack that may or may not have junk on it at any given time. But have I purchased a bunch of non-junk from the dollar rack? You bet your butt I have. I was able to decorate my apartment on a budget with some great pieces I found here. A lot of it is vintage, and almost everything is in great shape. These guys don't just throw anything out in their display areas. My friend is notorious for finding vintage pieces (mostly late 60's to early 70's, mostly for her kitchen - tea cups, canisters, etc) that she subsequently finds on eBay that sells for a gazillion times more and is in worse condition. Another North Adams stronghold. If you like sorting through old things -- prints, glassware, art, furniture, weird knick-knacks -- you will find this place heaven. You have to commit and come back regularly -- you never know what will be there, as things turn over pretty fast. Again: This is North Adams, not Williamstown (or Brimfield). Expect to dig for your treasures. Be sure to wander upstairs to the different consignment booths. Affordable, reliable, polite and beyond helpful if you need anything cleared out of a house. They even understand the emotional tug as you say goodbye to your belongings.
