What a wonderful place. They offer a great variety of yoga classes and NIA. In the same building there is also an herb shop, acupuncture etc... Best Yoga in Athens. Meghan is a real deal Yogini. read more

I've been here once for yoga and a few times for the herbal shop. The healing arts center is wonderful and has a peaceful feeling to it. I really enjoyed the mindful vinyasa yoga with Cathy and the owner Meghan is really wonderful. Looking forward to taking one of her classes. read more

Specialties

Sangha, a sanskrit word indicating spiritual community, is a sacred playground for the soul. Originally built as a place of worship in 1908, the prayers are still heard in this 1400 square foot yoga studio at the heart of the Healing Arts Centre. The studio offers an array of classes and events that move the body to radiant wellness. The moving arts offered in Sangha include many styles of Yoga, Pilates, NIA, Bellydance, peaceful Martial Arts, and Feldenkrais Awareness through Movement. One of the jewels that sets Sangha apart from other studios in town is that all of our teachers are certified and seasoned with much experience. For the seated arts, we are the home to Transcendental Meditation Athens and TM Training is available. Additionally, a Vipasana Meditation group meets here weekly as well as a Tai Chi based Meditation group. Sangha nourishes the eyes and feeds the soul as it is also an art gallery that regularly rotates its display of regional artists. In addition to moving, seated, and visual arts, Sangha brings healing through the ears as well. Weekends are reserved for candlelight concerts for those who enjoy early acoustic music without the usual distractions often found in other venues. Since opening in 2000, this sacred space has had the honor of housing many special events from Yogathons to Haflas, Drum Circles to Kirtan...Please peruse our website to explore our offerings, or call today for a current schedule of events at our playground for the soul.

Originally opened within Remedy Herb Shop at Beechwood Shopping Center in 1992, we outgrew the space and joyfully evolved into the Healing Arts Centre!

Meet the Business Owner: Meghan Madhavi B.

Meghan Madhavi Burke is the Founding Director of Sangha Yoga Studio and has been a devoted student of yoga for over 20 years. With more than 750 hours of residential yoga training, Madhavi's teaching is deeply rooted in tradition and is informed by all the limbs of the yoga tree...not just asana. Some of her greatest lessons were learned while studying in India. "For me, a crucial part of yoga is to recognize and observe emotional states that arise during one's practice. As we are able to stay with resistance on the mat until it dissolves, we are potentially liberated from that same limitation in our daily life. Although this reconditioning of the self begins on a physical level, it penetrates the soul and as we become more comfortable in our bodies, we become more comfortable in our lives."

I've only been to two classes at Rubber Soul, but I loved the place long before stepping inside its…read moredoors. First off, it gets points for being right down the train tracks from my house. (Yes, I live within 100 feet of train tracks. Yes, the train goes by often. No, it does not wake me up at night.) Rubber Soul is tucked away in the pretty yet unassuming Leathers Building, which is on Pulaski Street right before you get to the tracks. Rubber Soul has a small door marked with a stand-up metal YOGA sign; their front door always has that month's class schedule posted for the taking. Rubber Soul is a donations-based yoga center. A $3-5 donation per class attended is suggested but not monitored or required. (Not monitored as in they don't watch each person enter to see if they're paying or not.) I paid $5 my first time but only $2 today. You can go for free if you can't afford to donate, and they won't hate you for it. The classes are all taught by volunteer teachers who really believe that yoga can help you physically and spiritually. Thus far, no one I've encountered over there is overly preachy, so that's nice. The space is small but comfortable. Yoga mats can be rented for a $1 donation; bottles of water cost the same. Yoga bricks (?) and blankets are yours for the taking during class. I went to Laughing Club there a few months back with some friends. A fun and strange experience in which we spent an hour making weird noises, movements, and giggles. You should try it, especially if the idea freaks you out. Today I went to Gentle Yoga and loved it. Even the gentle class was a little workout for this novice! I love that this place is a non-profit. I love how involved they are with the community. I love the cozy space that doesn't waste resources. I love and don't love that the schedule changes month to month.
