Sugar's in the Bywater King Cake from the market...Amazing!
    Madhav S.

This is a really great farmers market just a little bit past the Industrial Canal in the Lower 9th Ward. Just got home and had a lunch pretty much fully consisting of today's Sankofa purchases: fresh greens, sweet potatoes, olive bread, and king cake. Everything was great, and the king cake was out of this world (from Sugar's in the Bywater). Everyone from the vendors to the market-goers were all friendly and everyone was all around cheerful. Great way to spend a Saturday morning!

Very little variety or quantity. Hours are uneven. Produce is not fresh. Many better food choices in the area so won't go back.

So many things to eat, see, and buy!…read more My friends and I walked over here as it was on our list of things to do but we were so amazed at how many food options there are as well as things to buy. The end we came in from started with food and there are beignets, oysters, boils, crawfish, and a whole bunch of other options. There is something for everyone to eat here. The other section had a lot of stalls selling trinkets, clothes, and artwork. I bought a couple of cute dresses and my friends and I all bought some artwork to bring home. It's a great place to get your souvenir shopping done as there are some unique pieces here!

From the moment you walk into this space, what you are confronted with is tons of all kinds of great and unique everything. Much of it is not only sold by local artisans, but made by them, as well. French market is predominantly an open air location. What you will find here are small shops that each offer a very unique collection of items that are very specific to their own shop. The items that are sold here span the gambit from jewelry, to artworks, to ethnic pieces that represent the culture from where the shop owner comes from. There is really a lot of everything at the French Market. Meaning, this is a great place to get that really unique gift that you wanna get for that special someone or to find that unique piece of whatever that you will personally use. As there are numerous shops here, each business provides a unique buying experience. Each one represents what they offer, and do it from their own perspective. From this, you'll find some shop merchants that are super friendly, very cordial, and more than willing to make deals with you. Others, not so much. But, that's what makes this location truly interesting. All the personalities that make up this shopping establishment. More than simply a place to shop for gifts, artworks, souvenirs, and the like, French Market also offers some great food stalls. So, if you need a snack, drink, or even a full meal, you can find it here. As this is open air, in the summer, it can get kinda hot inside this establishment. This is not bad or good, this is just something to keep in mind. This is the same during the winter months. You can't get kind of cold in there. But, at least from my perspective, that's a little bit easier to deal with. You just have to wear a jacket. Overall, this is one of the main stays of NOLA. It's truly a must see location. And, for people who know the city well, this is a place to go to when you want to find that truly unique item. Truly, you never know what you'll find.

New name is Marketplace Snowballs!! Went twice while in town…read more 1st one I got was Gator juice (it's the only place to get it). It wasn't bad actually. It's like 9 flavors in one. Think it was cool. Also got condensed milk on it. Was good I'd get it again. 2nd one was just strawberry I was so hot just needed something to cool me down. Service was fast. Ambiance...I mean it's in a market lol. Guy is really cool and friendly!

(0 stars) This is,…read morewithout exaggeration, the most disrespectful and unprofessional experience my family has ever had at a food establishment. We placed a simple order for two flavors mixed together, a request that should not be difficult for any business to fulfill. The snowball was made incorrectly, and when we politely pointed this out and clarified the flavors we had asked for, the owner became confrontational and began arguing with my family member instead of simply correcting the mistake. What happened next was beyond unacceptable. The owner of this location threw a snowball at my family member, called her out of her name, and continued to yell, curse, and argue with her in front of other customers. This is a business. We are paying customers, the very people whose money keeps their doors open and their bills paid, and we were met with hostility, vulgarity, and outright aggression instead of basic professionalism. On top of this, the establishment itself was noticeably unsanitary. There is no version of customer service that excuses this kind of behavior. Save your money and take your business somewhere you will actually be treated with respect and dignity. French Market, you owe your customers far better than this. We will be filing a formal complaint with city officials, because conduct like this has no place in any business that serves the public. I have no doubt we are not the first family to be treated this way, and without accountability, we will not be the last. If anyone recognizes the two men involved, please feel free to name them in the comments so others can be warned.
