At some of the smaller ones, there aren't really many vegetables, but here there was at least a decent selection, as well as many specialty prepared food items. Despite the fact that there was good variety, I must admit I did buy things from vendors I knew from the other markets; the pricey vegan Thai place that was once at the Ochsner market, the veggi co-op whose flavored tofu I've usually bought at Mid-City, and the cheap vegetable tamales I get from the Warehouse District location. If I'd have known the selection was going to be good, I would have bought less food over the weekend. Still, having them all in one place was nice. The location is easy enough to drive to but not terribly close to the streetcar. There wasn't really a ton of places to sit down and eat the Thai salad I bought, so I ended up leaving with it. The vegetable selection still wasn't perfect (notably, no peppers; the hot pepper vendor I see downtown wasn't at this one). And obviously, Tuesday morning is not a good time for a lot of people. But if I can find the time, I'd come back.

Most of the vendors offer tastes so you know "up front" how delicious before you buy. They do run out of popular items so I recommend going early if possible. I've never been disappointed with products or vendors from this outdoor fresh market.

Besides produce, there are usually baked goods and other homemade items. There are also meat and seafood providers usually. Additionally they have been hosting some recycling on site as well. Market tokens can be purchased but vendors usually except cash or online payment and even credit card sometimes. Obviously the selection changes every week, but you get to know your favs. Parking is generally available, though you may have to drive around or walk a block or two - at least it's free on weekends. Bank to get cash is close by, but most vendors take Venmo now; some take credit cards. You've got to get out of bed - might as well make the morning a good experience. :)

If you do not do Venmo, you can purchase wooden tokens at the Crescent City Farmers Market tent and you can purchase those with a credit card. All vendors will accept the wooden tokens.

He was very nasty to me, extremely rude and disrespectful. After I called him to tell him that I didn't appreciate his attitude and the manner by which he spoke to me, he apologized but the damaged was already done. Some folks I know won't patronize him anymore because of his behavior and rotten fruits and vegetables. So, last year, we purchased their mustard greens for $20 a case. So, I went in today to ask if the greens are still $20 a case and he went off like a mad man. He yelled and said, "Ma'am, I know you never bought mustard greens here for $20 a case and I don't believe you just said that to me." With this loud and obnoxious voice, he kept running his mouth, so I walked in the back to talk to the more sensible person, his wife. I asked his wife and she said yes, they were $20 a case last year but prices have increased to $36 a case. That's all the idiot had to say. Everyone knows that Hurricane Ida all but demolished their establishment so prices were probably increased for repairs. A simple, prices have increased GREATLY from last year would've sufficed. But nooooo, he starts yelling at me, the customer. He ought to be glad I needed these greens for Thanksgiving or I would have just walked out. I accepted his apology but I'm never going back there. Not sure if he's bi-polar or something but he was deranged today.

Almost 5 years later, this is still one of my favorite local markets. It has live music and puppies…read more(rescue groups with adoptables) and lunch (lots to choose from) and crafts. It's just a great way to spend an afternoon. Last weekend I had a watermelon lemonade, crawfish pasta for lunch, petted a few rescue pups, AND watched the band and a toddler interpretive dance to their music. I perused the crafts and the costume sale they were having in the back. So much fun and you never know who you'll run into. And what you might be able to take home with you.

A great market located on the Napoleon side of Freret that takes place on the first Saturday of…read moreeach month. The market takes place in the public parking area and usually features food, jewelry, soap, art, clothing, textile and candle vendors, among others. Accompanied by local bands, it is a great place to support the concept of shop local, shop small. We have discovered more than a handful of items at this market that we have integrated into our regular routine and a few special ones too! Highly recommend a stop here. A note on parking, there is usually plenty of parking on side streets adjacent to the market - but be considerate of neighbors and local businesses and feed the meter if you're on the street because the meter maids be a watchin.
