    Apple Biegnets
    Jim B.

The Apple Beignets were "okay". We stopped here as we were strolling the Marketplace. We saw the sign for apple beignets and thought we'd try it. Turns out, we prefer the regular beignets. The apple ones were softer, seemed greasier but that could have been the moisture the apple adds to the batter. They were served piping hot and we're glad we tried them but we'll return to regular beignets.

I'd always wanted to try frog legs so when we saw that this place had some we had to get them! It was a good amount to share the experience with; they were super delicious, and well-paired with the greens given as well.

Tried the Crawfish Mac & Cheese with their delicious Shrimp Po Boy, and it did not disappoint (You can probably tell by how we demolished the food). The lady helping us was really charming and we will definitely come back especially with these prices! :)

Bbq pork sandwich 9/10: Flavorful, good to share, but warming - a bit messy

From here we ordered the pulled pork bbq sandwich with a side of fries & a mango slushee. Oh goodness this sandwich was AH-maxing. The meat was fall apart & seasoned to perfection. I dislike when bbq is overwhelming & this one was not. The sandwich came with coleslaw which added the right amount of crispness! The slushee was flavorful & despite it being smaller than I expected, it lasted me quite a while.

Apple beignets and snow cones! Yum. The apple flavoring on the beignets was very slight. I honestly like it better than the original as the significant other had opposing opinions. It was hot and delish as it was made fresh to order. The snow cone was pretty tasty. It had a good ratio of ice and sweetness. The ice was shaved to perfection without any of the chunkiness I have experienced back home. NOLA does it best. And the best part is that it's only $3. This particular location is located at the French Market btw.

Roast Corn in dip into Butter

This is my special review for a single vender in the French Market. The reason that they need special attention is due to the unique food that they are prepared. If you visit the French Market, do not miss up the opportunity to try their food. Their vender stand is located at the last vender stand of the food venders at first open air structure. It is very much at the middle of two open air structures. They occupied three vender stands and a front open air stand. You will not miss it. The front vender stand offers the roast cone and broil peanut. They roasted their corn in the enclose smoker. Once they receive the order, they will peel off the skin and show the ear. Then they will dip the corn to the hot butter, and season with salt, parmesan cheese (yum), Cajun spice (wow). My wife loves this corn. The inner vender stand serves the deep fried corn, crab cake, gator bites, and frog leg. They also serve different type of fruit drink and icy. We were curious the deep fry corn did not turn to pop corn. The vender owner assures us it will not happen. Evidently, it does not and coated with thin cajun coating. I have concluded the deep fried corn is a boy food and the roast corn is girl food base on the preference. We also order the home made crab cake. The surprise is not the crab cake; it is the side dish that comes with it. The deep fried kale. I have the deep fried kale at the Cool Bean restaurant in Tallahasse FL. I did not expect they are as good as the restaurant grade. The Kale is deep fried for 30 second then season. The best thing is when you put on the tongue and the kale melt like cotton candy. The vender did a very good job.

My friends and I were browsing through the French Market on a Thursday morning and decided to stop here for a bite to eat for lunch. Overall, I was very satisfied with my entire dining experience and would definitely go back! My friends and I sat down and right away we were greeted and handed a menu. Then, one of the employees also told us about the menu items listed on the hanging chalkboards above. Our server was very nice. She asked us if we were out of town, which two of us were, and she welcomed us to NOLA. Now onto food: One of my friends ordered the crawfish po-boy, another ordered the foot long hot dog, and I ordered the crab cake sandwich. Our food got to us in a very timely manner and it was pipping hot. I tried my friend's crawfish pro-boy, and wish I had gotten that! It was delicious! I will also add that my crab cake sandwich was good. It wasn't anything spectacular, but it was good. The crab cake was put onto a regular hamburger bun. I wish they had grilled the bun to give it some crunch, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Overall: Definitely an enjoyable stop to grab a bite to eat if you're in the French Market!

The best Mac n' cheese of my life. Filled with spicy crawfish. Oh and that's deep fried corn.

Last May, my buddies and I were treated like kings at this French Market nugget. When I returned to New Orleans over the weekend, there was no doubt in my mind that we would return. And as no surprise to me, the food was absolutely dynamite. Thousands of locals, tourists and foodies stroll by Mother Nature's Cupboard every single day missing out on a flavor ecstasy for the ages. I had to convince travelers to dine here. There are only five seats at the counter, but it's located at the heart of the French Market. You can easily walk and talk with your meal. Scratch that, eating here is like attending church, it's a sacred experience. I'm flabbergasted that most people decide on the rather Americanized meals, instead of indulging the local flavor. C'mon tourists, you can eat a hamburger and fries anywhere, but can you get Crawfish Mac n' Cheese or Deep Fried Corn anywhere? No, not like this. Hands down, the most flavorful Mac n' Cheese I've ever eaten. Large, meaty pieces of spicy crawfish fill the cracks of the tender pasta, which is completely smothered in a creamy, rich cheese sauce that will resurrect your taste buds. And Deep Fried Corn? But, how? There are no time for questions folks, just time to munch on crunchy fried corn that will make you as ecstatic as a kid in a candy store. I remembered the man behind the counter from last year. I'm not sure he remembered me, but we did share a look. One of those looks where you can tell he appreciated your business, because he could tell you were humbled by a great New Orleans meal. Maybe I'm crazy, but maybe you should unstrap your visor a bit, take a deep breath, and experience true local essence. Mother Nature's Cupboard won't be on a Best of New Orleans Food List, but go out of your way to find this pearl.

We were hungry so we decided to find a snack to hold us until dinner. This is a counter service spot in the Farmer's Market. We were lucky enough to find two seats at the counter. You can also stand in a line and order food if there aren't seats available. We ordered the crab cake and poutine. Poutine was fries covered with cheese and brown gravy. It was a bit too salty but very good. The crab cake was great. The lady who took our order was very nice and provided great service.

Very tasty corn! I really really really like it!
    Yulia N.

OMG their roasted corn is a must! Walking down the French market I saw a few people eating roasted corn, I hunted them down and asked where they got the corn! I am so glad I bought some! The corn was so good by itself! Then with all the seasoning it takes it up the notch! I will definitely come back again when I am in the area! Yumm

    You can see the salt.
    Bre B.

Only ordered fries. They were extremely salty. I thought they spilt a salt shaker on them. Had to wipe them off to even eat them and they were still salty. Nice workers though.

Prompt service. The apples beignets are so savory. They have an apple cinnamony taste.

crawfish pie where have you been all my life!
    Tim C.

We strolled through the French Market at least three times before we stopped at the first place we saw advertising crawfish pie...of course they were out, that's how we ended up at Mother N.'s. We wanted to try a mudbug pie, sure glad they had some 'cause this is the good stuff...should've got more than one ...i'm sorry to say I begrudged my wife's two or three tiny bites...this will be a stop on our next Nawlins visit.

From the moment you walk into this space, what you are confronted with is tons of all kinds of great and unique everything. Much of it is not only sold by local artisans, but made by them, as well. The items that are sold here span the gambit from jewelry, to artworks, to ethnic pieces that represent the culture from where the shop owner comes from. There is really a lot of everything at the French Market. Meaning, this is a great place to get that really unique gift that you wanna get for that special someone or to find that unique piece of whatever that you will personally use. As there are numerous shops here, each business provides a unique buying experience. Each one represents what they offer, and do it from their own perspective. From this, you'll find some shop merchants that are super friendly, very cordial, and more than willing to make deals with you. Others, not so much. But, that's what makes this location truly interesting. All the personalities that make up this shopping establishment. More than simply a place to shop for gifts, artworks, souvenirs, and the like, French Market also offers some great food stalls. So, if you need a snack, drink, or even a full meal, you can find it here. As this is open air, in the summer, it can get kinda hot inside this establishment. This is not bad or good, this is just something to keep in mind. This is the same during the winter months. You can't get kind of cold in there. This location was historically an open-air market, but was completely renovated with overhead doors that can be closed in inclement weather. They have more space, and more pleasant shopping conditions (especially during summer). Southside Produce isn't a farmers market, but they do sell local produce whenever available. When I was in today, they were showcasing local cauliflower, but also had some beautiful fresh Brussel Sprouts from a farm in California. Their fresh produce is always fresh and high quality regardless of its source. Another amazing area they have is the extensive frozen produce aisle. These include virtually every type of frozen vegetable and fruit. I also noted a selection of local meat products in the coolers, these included quite the selection of sausages! In the preserved products, Southside also has you covered. They have their own brand of pickled, jellied, and preserved foods of all sorts. They also sell other name brands. They have syrups and oils, and other similar products. This is an area that's expanded over the years, and is now quite extensive. Then there are the other products that one can find there. These include things like a significant selection of dried beans and rice, local bread products from a number of bakeries, and cypress furniture. In the right season, you can buy fruit trees to plant in your yard or garden. In all seasons, I recommend Southside as a great place to buy healthy and interesting houseplants. I am always amazed by their selection. Service is always great as well. Normally, one need only take their selections to the counter in the center to be rung up. Their registers accept all modern forms of payment including tap to pay (min $4 on credit cards though). If you need any other help, they will be glad to provide it. Everyone seems cheerful and pleasant. I've been going to Southside Produce for decades now. I felt it was overdue to write a review. Not only do you get extremely fresh items, you're able to meet the farmer who raised the animals and grew the vegetables you're buying. In my opinion, this is the best farmers market within driving distance of New Orleans. Here are the reasons why: Proximity to farms - Many people may not know this, but the Northshore is home to many different types of farms. Because Covington is close to the farm, you will get the freshest possible items. Variety - Whether you eat meat, are a vegetarian, or even a pescetarian, there will be something for you at this market. I particularly like the farm fresh meats. On my last visit I spoke with a cattle farmer who was selling his wares. His offer of a processed half or full cow seemed highly desirable, but I had nowhere to store that much meat. I did buy some of his ground beef which was better than anything I have sampled before, including from fancy stores. There are also numerous vendors selling products they made locally. As Jennifer B. mentioned, the Italian cookie stand is a must visit. Besides amazing products, the guys who run the stand are very friendly and entertaining characters. If you have kids make sure you pick up one of their cookies in the shape of popular cartoon characters. Besides all the food, there are also several plant vendors each week. I don't know much about plants, but they had quite the variety. I am a big fan of this market, and think you will be too.
