I have had such a positive experience here! I'm partway through the six week fitness challenge and it has been transformative. First, the level of care shown by all staff is wonderful! I have a few physical challenges and they have gone out of their way to accommodate those challenges as well as teach proper form. (The long time members do as well; it feels very much like a family!) Next, the nutritional aspect has eliminated my gastrointestinal issues, so even if I wasn't losing body fat and gaining muscle - which I am, so yay - it would be worth it just to live without that particular pain. Cool hole in the wall place, very welcoming atmosphere. They take time to know your needs and check up on you. I have limited experience with them but it seems as though they at least care to know what you're looking for or desire. Fair variety of classes(you can't possibly fulfill everyone's desire). Kickboxing routine classes are fairly decent one will get a good workout if you push yourself though it. I live the cool downs at the end of the session. I have been taking my sons here for martial arts classes for the last 7 years and I thought it was about time that I tried a class myself! I am halfway through doing their 6-week challenge and have been taking kickboxing classes three times a week, following their meal plan (it's like "Whole30") and WOW, my results are amazing so far. i am less than a week in completing my 6 week challenge. During this challenge not only did i lose body fat and tone my body up but i learned a lot about my body and health. We love MAFF! We started with our then 5 year old son and saw the positive effects the program had for our family right away. He is now 6 and still participating and thriving. Our 3 year old daughter just started and she is loving it as well. As a parent I appreciate not only the clear and age appropriate instruction on the physical aspects of Hapkido but also the influence on the character of the child. Discussing and teaching real world situations in relation to the tenants of the dojo makes a difference in the children's home and school loves too! For instance, one tenant is integrity. They talk about truth telling, hard work and how that can be useful at home and on the playground! Love this! I also am happy with the adaptability of the program. As one particular class group got large they added a class and split the big group into two... And they seem to assess each day as an individual making changes that reflect the specific group. I brought a student for her class which included sparring...her instructor, Austin, is positive, direct, and just an all around excellent teacher. He is a natural with students. I ran into two families that I know and a parent was kind enough to let me know that my car had been chalked by the parking police and the limit is 75 minutes...saved me from a potential ticket. This place is amazing. Martial Arts Family Fitness is a work out for your body and your spirit. I've seen kids enjoying classes to grandmothers punching bags, there is something for everyone here. Kids take classes in martial arts and learn life skills like discipline, respect and confidence. I've seen amazing results from their KUT program with people slimming down, becoming healthy and glowing with their results. The KUT program uses a combination of classes for maximum results, and works with your diet educating everyone on healthy choices. My favorite class is a strength training class that they do with bands. My upper body is much more toned since taking the class. I also enjoy their kickboxing class, where I get to work on my form and technique. The instructors are always there to help you out and support you. I feel so good about myself after every class that I take here. There is a reason that this place has been voted #1 in Santa Barbara as the Best Martial Arts School. I attended a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class while visiting Santa Barbara. I've played sports and did some wrestling in school but a long time ago. The staff and other students were all super welcoming, encouraging and patient. I felt the objective was to learn. To improve your own defensive skills, discipline, not compete. When I finally landed (strong word here) one of the skills taught, I felt pretty darn good. It inspired me to look into places in my home city, but the bar is pretty high. MAFF is a no- judgment atmosphere that I really appreciate as someone who can feel intimidated by gyms and fitness centers. Highly recommend them! read more

Working with Martial Arts Family Fitness has been an incredible experience!! All of the staff and instructors are very knowledgeable and want to see you succeed. They are very welcoming to new people and are diligent in giving tips, advice, modifications, and gentle correction when needed (to avoided injury). It is a lot of work but you have the support of staff and others doing the program who want to see you achieve your goals. I expanded my martial arts training to include a fitness regimen that uses the resistance bands classes that are taught here. Master Wheaton said that bands might be the best form of exercise that there is - I must say that after three months, I am in great shape and look forward to those classes as much at the martial arts classes in the evening. read more

This place is a total rip-off! They make you sign a one year contract, and any early termination results in a hefty penalty. How does a kid know if they even like martial arts until they do it for a while? And if they don't, you're hosed. They also give away belts like tic-tacs. Any kid that goes for 3 years gets one. The belt promotions are a joke. I took martial arts for 5 years growing up and actually had to earn a belt. At MAFF, they simply make the kid do one technique and give them the belt. Oh, and charge you $50 for it. Don't go here! read more

This is an excellent studio with enthusiastic teachers, and a warm, friendly vibe. I've been attending classes there for over three years, and can highly recommend the shadow boxing, kickboxing with bags, and bands exercise classes. I've been going to Martial Arts Family Fitness since 2010. I couldn't stand the thought of spending one more minute in a traditional gym and needed to get my butt in gear for my wedding. This did the trick! Great work out in an incredibly supportive, instructional, and encouraging environment. There really is a family feel to this place which is why I keep going. I continued through two pregnancies and this past summer my daughter attended their summer camp. She absolutely loved it! Aside from all that I've written, they take their mission one step further by doing so much for the local community. While I got my black belt a long time ago, I go to MAFF's kickboxing classes at least 2/week to stay in shape. It's an excellent class for all skill levels and intensities! Unlike many sports, it's a full-body, left/right brain workout that develops your coordination for all sports and physical activities... and, if you learn the skills, you can use it to protect yourself! The instructors are very knowledgable, the other people there are very cool, the schedule is convenient and it's easy to get to! I highly recommend them! read more

I joined Martial Arts Family Fitness (MAFF) two years ago and have never regretted the decision. Through the recommendation of a friend I tried a fitness kickboxing class which I thought an avid runner like myself could handle. Completely drenched in sweat and exhausted beyond belief I was encouraged throughout class by the awesome instructor. The thing that has made me love MAFF and has made it stand out to me more than any other workout studio is the staff that provides endless encouragement, tips, and advice in every student's fitness goals.
