Super disappointed. Went in to get a friend fitted for running shoes, as she is new to running. While there, thought I would try a few pairs of shoes, as I was looking at a new brand for me (Altra) and wanted to buy local. They did not have my size (10) in either Altra shoe. How can I buy locally if you don't carry all the sizes? Woman helping me just shrugged and didn't offer to order any in or help in any other way. Additionally, my friend didn't get a running analysis at all. I figured they would put her on the treadmill and video her run and do a proper analysis. No such luck. When we asked about return policies, they said they only have a 15 day store credit. What if none of the shoes worked for her?? No refund? They did not do anything to get my loyalty, which is sad as I can go online and get things cheaper, but I wanted to support a local store. read more

Came here to pick up a new pair of kicks for a half marathon I was running. Sure glad I did!! The gentleman who helped me examined how I walked then brought out many pairs of shoes that I should try on. I even jogged a little on the treadmill to make sure they were comfy and a perfect fit. I'm a runner and today I went here in search of a new pair of running shoes. Whoever helped me (I can't remember his name) was super awesome! He watched me walk and asked about what type of running I do and brought out a few pairs of shoes out for me to try on. I found a pair I loved and ended up deciding to buy them. The employee asked me before purchasing the shoes if I had an Axxess card (which I do) which was super thoughtful because I got 20% off a $120 pair of running shoes! Overall, I'm super impressed with the employees and their attention to customers. I would definitely recommend coming in here the next time you're looking for a new pair of running shoes! read more

SB Running represents all that is good about local stores. I had an issue with a pair of trail runners that had faulty treads. The team at SB Running tried to resolve it with the manufacturer. Although, once it became apparent it wasn't going to happen quickly, they offered me a new pair. The store also has a good vibe with a knowledgeable staff. It's worth a visit to the Funk Zone if you need running shoes. We have to keep businesses like this one in business. read more

Never purchase anything from this store if they do not have the item in stock. I purchased a pair of sneakers on October 26, 2019. I was told that the sneakers had to be ordered and that I should have them in about 2 weeks. I returned to the store 2 weeks later and every week following up to this day. I have not received the sneakers or my money back. I have asked for my money several time and the owner will not reimburse me. Again, I will advise you to never buy anything from this store if the item is not available to take home. I am reporting this business to the Better Business Bureau. read more

Nice employees but their NO RETURNS policy has made them lose my business. Store credit only. I bought a shirt and next day wanted to return it, not worn, tags still on it. It just didn't fit right. The clerk told me store credit only - THE NEXT DAY. Sorry - every other retail store in the WORLD lets the customer return within 30 days, with tag, receipt, not worn or used. Bad policy. I had a horrible experience with the owner of this company... will never ever ever be returning. A friend and I went in to purchase him a pair of vibrams at the Goleta location. The man working seemed a bit out of it, but we waited while he helped another customer and then asked him to try on the bikila ls. He helped my friend determine the appropriate shoe size for vibrams, He brought out the wrong model twice. It wasn't a big deal, my friend just tried them on for fit and then asked for the bikila ls (again). The man working huffed and puffed and muttered something under his breath as he went to the back. I thought it was kind of strange. My friend and I just looked at each other, and he asked me if I smelt the guy too. He REEKED of alcohol--explains the weird, vacant behavior. They didn't have the size my friend needed in the bikila ls, so we thanked the guy and said we'd probably just order them online since they didn't have them in the store today. His sarcastic and demeaning reply was: "Thanks for taking my time." I went over to the register to get a business card to call the manager/owner and let them know about the incident. We politely made our way out and explained to him that we would have bought if the size needed was available. His response: "Thanks for taking my time"--again!!! So I immediately call the downtown location and ask for the owner. The nice guy on the phone down there explained that the owner was working at the Goleta store today. I confirmed the rude man's appearance and sure enough the alcohol-smelling, rude and demeaning man was the owner. Still kind of in shock. I love supporting local businesses, but I will be taking my business elsewhere--I don't need to feel unappreciated, degraded and talked down to by the owner of a business. read more

Yesterday I brought in a one month pair of Hoka One One's that had the sole ripping off. I was expecting at LEAST a short time of me pleading my case, but within 5 seconds of showing them the shoe she interrupted me, grabbed the shoes and said, "hold on, I'll get you a new pair." She returned 30 seconds later with said new pair stating, "If it happens again, we may need to switch you to a different style." I was out of the store with new shoes in less than 2 minutes. Wow! GREAT customer service!! She even remembered selling me a prior pair of Hoka One One's almost a year ago. Thank you so much!! read more

Loved the customer service here. They were not pushy at all and wanted to make sure I was comfortable with the shoe. They literally brought about 5 different pairs for me to try before I settled happily with a pair. They analyzed how I walked and made recommendations appropriately. Okay so this is the second beyond weird experience at this store. Never again because the only two times I have been in (once at the old location and now the one in Montecito), I have been met with rude people with attitudes. First time a huge sign that was hanging on by one little nail fell on my 13 year old daughters friend. Sure accidents happen but not even an apology from the "manager"as the little girl was hit on a bandaged up foot from a previous accident? In fact they looked at us as if it were our fault. The next time I am at their store I am in the market for a new pair of Hoka running shoes and I see that they are conveniently located in my neighborhood of Montecito. I go in and there is a aloof little old man that works there. I ask for a 8.5 or 9 mens shoe size. He says that he brings me a 9. I put them on and trust him to give me the right size as he is the professional and I am without my glasses. The salesman half heartedly assures me that this is the right size for me, as bigger is necessary on trail runs. As I am at the cash register I strike up a pleasant and engaging quick one minute conversation with the only other person in the store who is also in line. The sales person wasn't having it. Multiple times the little old man interrupted me in an inpatient manner and hurried me along. I felt very uncomfortable. I am now stuck with a size men's 10. I look like a clown and am trying to find someone to give them too. What a rare experience to have especially in these trying economic times. Customer service, patience, and expertise is everything at a retail establishment especially at a running shoe store. I should have just ordered online... read more

I was "that customer", the one who needed a lot of guidance on what shoes would work for my feet/situation. AND I hate garish, ugly running shoes....which is the majority of what's available to women. GAH! The folks here at SB Running worked extra hard to get me fitted correctly and in something that made me happy. They brought different sizes from their Goleta store, they happily allowed me to return my unworn shoes, and they found me my perfect all black shoes! They have good shoe selection and are knowledgeable, but I have a funky right foot and I had to try three different pairs to finally get it right. They were courteous face to face and helped me finally get the right fit shoe. However, as I was walking out the sales man said some rude comment to another employee about me. I usually shop online and haven't been fitted for shoes in years. A coworker recommended SB Running Co so I stopped by today and asked Joe for his advice. He watched me walk and I tried on 3 pairs of shoes: Saucony, Nike, and I can't remember the 3rd. The Saucony were the best overall and I was happy to get something recommended by someone who's been in the industry so long and I'm afraid of hurting myself with ill-fitting, low-quality shoes. Great experience and service. I had been training for a half marathon and was enduring some serious foot pain thinking it was a result of the increased distances. A couple of weeks before the run, I went to SB Running Co...the gait diagnostics were helpful, the employees (runners themselves) were great. They narrowed the selection to a few types of shoes and they all felt much better. The pair I settled on was a huge help. I had mostly avoided speciality shops in the past because I thought prices would be much higher, but they prices were actually quite good here. Highly recommended! read more

I am a new runner, so I didn't know much.. the sales associate had me stand barefoot and took a look at my feet & standing position; he then picked out 3 pairs of shoes for me and had me try them all on the see which felt best. Went to the downtown location with my mom to replace my very beat up running shoes. The guy who helped us was the best combination of professional, focused and friendly. He watched me walk barefoot to check my gait, had me step on the machine to see where I carry my weight, and then immediately went to the back and brought out three PERFECT pairs of shoes. He had me try all of them on, in their pairs and then mixing and matching to get a good comparison, and made pleasant conversation with my mom while I hopped and scampered around the store. He also knew exactly what I needed to take care of my Morton's neuroma! I left with a fantastic pair of shoes and a great feeling about this business. read more

I recently was highly recommended to come into the Santa Barbara Running Company store due to an injury. I was immediately greeted with an engaging, smiling individual that helped me beyond all of my needs. They found me a truly superior pair of running shoes that fit perfectly, and an insole that really supported my arch. I also got some cool accessories as well as an "orb" ball and roller that will alow me to stay in the best shape and get through my injury. I highly recommend this store. I stopped by Santa Barbara Running Co on my way back up to Berkeley. I was at first concerned that going to a speciality shoe store in Santa Barbara would necessarily mean higher prices. But I was desperate. I had been trying to run in a pair of Asics for the last year and have been having pain in my Achille's tendons and the bone above the arch of my foot. Monica took a look at the shoes, my stride, and my foot--I have high arches--and immediately told me I had the wrong shoe for my foot. She brought out three different types--another Asics, a Mizuno Waverider 18, and a Nike. After trying them all, I decided on the Mizunos. Went for a 5 mile run in the hills today and was amazed. All of the pain in my tendons, arch, and even right knee are gone! I was able to run farther and faster without pain and am now looking forward to running again. Amazing what a difference a shoe makes! And they were affordable, not marked up like I expected from a specialty shop. Thanks Monica. I bought shoes here today. They analyzed my gate (two different employees at two different times), explained what they saw, and then made good suggestions. I tried six pairs until I found the right pair for me. Each pair I tried on the treadmill too which is really helpful. Both employees who helped me were patient, knowledgeable, and good listeners (even though there were several customers in there at the time). Not pushy either, as the other reviewer mentioned.
