I shared that our son has dyslexia and is a bit behind in reading, but that we were fully willing to support him, including having him repeat 3rd grade if necessary to help him succeed academically. Instead of discussing possible solutions or support options, we were repeatedly told that transitioning from 2nd to 3rd grade would be "impossible" and that it would require "sooooo much work at home." The conversation felt extremely discouraging and came across as condescending, as though assumptions were being made about our willingness or ability as parents to help our child. As parents of a child with a learning difference, we were hoping for understanding, encouragement, and a collaborative approach. Sadly, that was not the experience we had. Every child deserves to be seen for their potential, not immediately dismissed because they may need extra support.

I escalated the issue to the head of the school and still got no meaningful reply. Trying to be proactive, I paid my own expenses to attend an athletic event where the school was participating after being encouraged by another coach in the same league. When I introduced myself and explained that I had been trying to reach out, the coach told me, verbatim: "The reason I didn't respond was because I thought you were just fishing around looking for a handout." That statement, combined with the complete lack of communication and a dismissive, unprofessional interaction from senior Human Resources, says everything about how this school operates. If you expect basic professionalism, responsiveness, or respect, you will not find it here.

If getting started on a path wasn't hard enough, don't count on getting into the nursing program here either, even if you're already a student. The nursing program is understaffed, and the entry-rate is pitiful for how much funding went into this school and the tuition students pay. But, yay! There's a new advising building that isn't even labeled! It is a horrible shame what this school does to people. PLEASE don't waste your money here. Maybe you'll get lucky and get accepted into one of their programs, but definitely apply to multiple schools if you can, because they are in a prime location, with little to offer as far as a accessible successful career-building tools. If you are a good student or professor/teacher, please just come to Galveston College. They are so much more organized, and they actually care about their students.
