With our main KP medical office in the Long Beach location (which is a lot larger), we seem to stop into the Signal Hill offices when we are in the area to do errands and need to get some preventive medicine done (or do a blood draw, which I would no longer recommend at this site....the phlebotomists tend to gossip with each other while doing their work, making it seem like what they are doing doesn't require their full attention...it caused quite a bit of bruising and pain). We had been reminded that the 2024 flu shots were available now, and that the Signal Hill office were running a walk-in clinic till November. We've found the surface parking to be the right size for the smaller facility, allowing one to find parking. It is a smaller facility, with everything one needs on the first floor. If you have an existing appointment, you can check in via kiosks or wait in a one line queue for the next available registrar. But before you hit the queue, there are signs stating that for the flu clinic, one can walk right into the community room (entrance to the room visible from the queue). It was a bit weird skipping the line and walking in, but we were assured we were doing the right thing. You put your name on a sign-in sheet on a clipboard (old school!), and then have a seat to fill out the consent form. The form did ask for our Kaiser Medical Record Number (MRN), which allowed the nurse to look up our record. After a few minutes, our name was called individually, and we were taken behind some dividers to get our shot. The set-up is identical to the flu clinics that many work places sponsor during flu season for their employees. Since we were here, we asked about the new Covid vaccine. The online system lets you make an appointment, with all nearby KP locations being a week or two out. But the nurse stated that since it wasn't so busy, we could get in line with the reception to make an immediate appointment, so that's what we did. It took a bit longer (the receptionist had to do some magic on her end since the system was telling her the next appointment was a week out), but after we got our appointment changed to immediate, we were able to go back into the community room. We filled out a different consent form, waited a little bit, and had the same nurse administer the vaccine. The whole process took under an hour. Kaiser Signal Hill does a nice job of optimizing the pre-appointment process, actually making you feel that everyone's time is important.

[Appointment]: I actually didn't make a prior appointment and simply walked in. I was able to get an appointment on the spot (arrived at 3:30 PM and left at 4:30 PM on a weekday). [Price]: Out of pocket STD blood testing & HIV rapid testing (result ready in 20 minutes) was appromxately $260, but I recall visitors can fill out a form and apply for state subsidies (qualification is based on income). You can ask for HIV blood test instead of rapid test if you are not in hurry to get a result and rapid test requires fingerstick blood sample. Cost for STD treatment will be charged separately (if necessary). To my surprise, I actually wasn't charged a dime this time despite not covered by my insurance vs I had to pay a full amount at another Planned Parenthood location. [Service]: The process for routine STI tests is very simple and straightforward. Super friendly staff and the doctor offered a bag of free latex condoms. Some STD test results like syphilis and HIV were ready in 2 days, but other STD test results like chlamydia and gonorrhea took 7 - 10 business days. The clinic will only call if there is any positive test result & provide follow-up STD treatment options. [Conclusion]: Again Planned Parenthood continues to be the ultimate no judgement zone. I like the staff from this location and I can see myself coming back here if I need more routine STI tests in foreseeable future.

I've been seeing Dr. Archna Chaudhary for a while now and honestly have had a really great experience. I've been to each of the multiple locations, and all of them are clean and easy to get in and out of. The newer office by the Long Beach Traffic Circle is especially nice. Wait times are very reasonable, I'm typically seen within 5-10 minutes... and to be fair, half the time that's because I'm walking in right at the last minute. As for Dr. Chaudhary, she's been great. She actually listens, takes her time, and explains things in a way that makes sense. She has a good balance of being gentle but also straightforward, which I personally like. I've never felt rushed, and she's open to talking through different options instead of just immediately prescribing something. I've also seen a few of the nurse practitioners and they've all been pleasant. If you're on the fence because of reviews, I'd just say go see for yourself and form your own opinion. I've recommended her to friends and family and would continue to do so.
