Luckily, I only let them change the oil and I left. If I had stayed, they would have racked up almost 2K in services. I took my car elsewhere and I didn't need anything at all done to my car. I'm so tired of being taken advantage of and am finally speaking up. Oh, and they pretend they are doing you a favor. So bad. ARGH!

Greg had his mechanic install the new lug nuts that I already had, at no additional cost. The facility has limited areas to wait, but there is a nearby coffee shop within a short walking distance. Greg was personable, smart, a great listener, efficient, professional, & made recommendations to save me money on future car repairs. Greg has earned my trust. The Good - Cook said the nail didn't fully puncture the tire and it didn't need to be replaced. So I appreciate the honesty for this part. 2. The Bad - Replacement of the front brakes. After a few months the brakes were still squeaking and I called to mention this and they said to drive the car longer and it will stop. A year later and they still squeak. I took the car to a mechanic for in inspection and was told that Cook used Oreilly brakes and did not use OEM BWM brakes. Cook did not offer it as an option. It is a 2022 BMW and the brakes the used are unsatisfactory. Had I known they would not use original parts or offer it, I would have had this service done elsewhere. I should have went to a BMW specialized mechanic.

I of course couldn't pay that and took it to a local mechanic after a recommendation, who let me know that my A/C compressor was fine- it was merely a broken electrical relay system. Parts and labor? $120. Subaru Santa Monica quoted me essentially a 90% markup. This place truly preys upon if you don't know about cars or aren't under warranty. Avoid if you're not under warranty- I knew these places could be bad but not this bad.

Well, once I dug into the process, saw that the work is warranted for a year, I figured I'd give them a shot. First, we had them do two aftermarket wheels which relatively minor damage. The result was pretty incredible. The wheels looked good as new and honestly, I couldn't remember where the blemishes were . Months later the wheels looked great. Today, we got four wheels on my wife's car done, all with curb rash to a varying degree and the result was great. The challenge today wasn't the damage, it actually wasn't super complex or extensive. It was the color. From the factory, the color is pretty unique, but the Dr. Wheel team got it pretty much exactly. A special shout out to Jonathan, who came out to our house twice and did a great job. Friendly, professional, thorough, and just an all around solid dude. Not that I hope to get more curb rash on any of our wheels (nor do I wish that for you!), but if we do, we will definitely go back to them. We've already referred them to a few neighbors.

My recently purchased used BMW required serious engine work....valve related issues(~$5000 worth of work). Brought it here and the gentleman I spoke to(I believe Brian) pretty much gave me a no BS assessment of the issues with my car and how to resolve them before having him work on it. Good guy, sympathetic to my situation, and in no rush to take my money. If I did decide to repair th, he was happy to work with the after market warranty company to get as much covered and did give me realistic estimate of how long I would be without a car. Ended up getting rid of the vehicle instead of going down the engine repair road at Brian's suggestion. They didn't work on my car, but my future out of warranty BMW repairs will definitely go here. Seems they are very busy and suggest making an appt way in advance. read more

The owner is a drug addict. I was walking my dogs by his shop, on the sidewalk, you know, what normal dog owners do. I walked by said Good Morning and the supposed "owner" just started yelling. "Your dogs are walking and peeing on my tree and bushes (which I am pretty sure it is the cities tree and bushes, because it was the space between the road and sidewalk) and he was twitching/shaking. I can understand if my dogs pooped and I didn't pick it up or were scaring customers by barking... Literally they were doing what dogs do and peeing... ALSO, he was not wearing a mask... If he is that erratic, I would not trust him with your car. Plenty of other places in Santa Monica you can go. I will never go back (they overcharged me anyways) and I'll never recommend them. read more

AWESOME! 5 STARS!!! The head light bulb on my X5 burned out a couple of days ago, and after reading the rave reviews on Yelp, I called SM Autoworks in the morning to make an appointment. Brian answered the call and told me that I didn't need an appointment if all I needed was a new bulb. I stopped by around lunch time and Brian told me to stay in my car while he replaced the bulb. Voila! under 2 minutes, my head lights are as good as new. Brian even took the time to check all the other lights and blinkers to make sure they were working fine before I drove off. I know I will be coming back to SM Autoworks for my next maintenance service. read more

All the reviews you have read are right on. This place is a great find. They explain everything in detail in language a non mechanic can understand. Their prices are fair and a heck of lot less than a dealer. I was going to sell my car as it was out of warranty and prices at the dealer were way beyond what made sense. Now I have decided to keep the vehicle for a lot longer time frame as I have a repair shop that can do the fixes that are required at reasonable prices. This place is marvelous, just hard to get worked in sometimes as for good reason they are very busy. read more

I'm happy I took a coworkers advice and came to Santa Monica Autoworks to have work done on my car. I do some work myself when its something simple, but I knew I wasn't going to be able to handle the amount of work they were able to perform in such short time. These guys are great. I brought my Beemer in for some brakework and they did a good job at a fair price. While it was up on the rack, they checked out the whole front end and found a problem I didnt' even know i had, and they fixed it for me, after calling to let me know about it and see if I wanted to do the work. The bureau shared that it was unable to determine fault. That is not the same as concluding that you were free of fault. 3. You did not offer to replace the engine free of charge. Instead, I was quoted approximately $6,000 to replace the engine after it failed shortly following service at your shop, and I declined that proposal. Had a no-cost replacement been offered, I would have gladly accepted it. I had invested most of my savings into that car. It was my first major purchase. Given that you left this process completely unscathed, your inaccurate statements about me and the situation feel unnecessary, unprofessional, and overall unkind. Everyone, please be very cautious when taking your car here.

Luckily, I only let them change the oil and I left. If I had stayed, they would have racked up almost 2K in services. I took my car elsewhere and I didn't need anything at all done to my car. I'm so tired of being taken advantage of and am finally speaking up. Oh, and they pretend they are doing you a favor. So bad. ARGH!
