This place is absolutely a joke. I took my car in for a small coolant leak and they gave me a 5000+ estimate for all these BS they had diagnosed on my car. What they didn't know was that my car had its major service at a Porsche dealership recently. Right after I left, I took my car to another shop and it was only one hose that was leaking not all the hoses and the tank plus a laundry list of all other crap. If you're a young classic Mercedes owner, do yourself a favor and stay far away from Stuttgart Auto. I've been going to them for years with my 1980s Mercedes 300 SD and have probably spent over $10,000 there. While they're friendly, they are either completely incompetent or knowingly taking advantage of customers--especially younger ones who are new to owning older cars. After a parking ramp hit the underside of my car, I brought it to Stuttgart and specifically told them to look underneath the car and tell me if there was any visible damage. I also asked them to figure out why the car was making a loud noise. A day or two later, they called and told me they had looked under the car and found no damage whatsoever. Instead, they said the noise was coming from my driveshaft and front suspension, that it was all "worn out," and quoted me nearly $2,000 to replace the entire front suspension. It didn't feel right, so I brought the car to Malibu Motors, and the difference was night and day. Within minutes of driving my car, they noticed my carburetor was loose, which was contributing to the noise--something Stuttgart never caught after years of servicing my car. The next day, Malibu called me and told me exactly what had happened: the exhaust had been hit underneath, bent upward, and was now rattling against something underneath. It was clearly visible damage--the kind you'd spot the moment the car is lifted, which is what I explicitly asked Stuttgart to do. Malibu fixed everything for just under $400, including replacing the carburetor clamps and bending the exhaust back. Problem solved. I called Stuttgart to confront them about the fact that they told me there was no damage, completely missed the real problem, and tried to charge me $2,000 to replace things that weren't causing the issue. Instead of taking responsibility, they blamed me--saying I misled them by not telling them how the car was damaged. That makes no sense. I told them I didn't know exactly what had happened and asked them to look under the car, which is exactly what Malibu did and immediately found the real issue. Stuttgart never explained why they recommended suspension work that wouldn't have even fixed the noise. When pressed, they just said my suspension was "original and old" and should be replaced anyway, even though I've had zero problems with it. This wasn't the only time they overcharged me either. Old Mercedes like mine are known for window regulator issues. Over the years, I had to bring my car in several times for window problems. Every time, they charged me $450 just to take the door panel off and inspect--no repairs, no parts included. Just labor. I asked each time if that was really the price just to take it off, and every time they said yes. Eventually, I told them I couldn't afford to keep paying that. Their solution? Drop it to $300 if I paid in cash. When I mentioned this to Malibu Motors, they told me they'd never charge more than $150 for the same inspection and were shocked I'd been paying so much for so long. Looking back, I was young, I trusted them, and I didn't know any better. I think they knew that. Stuttgart acts like a specialist shop for classic Mercedes, but they either don't know how to actually work on these cars or they just see easy money in owners who do what they're told. They missed obvious damage, blamed me for their mistake, overcharged me for years, and recommended expensive repairs that wouldn't have solved the problem. They don't check, they don't listen, and they definitely don't care. They just charge. Take your car to Malibu Motors. They actually know what they're doing, they're honest, and they fixed the real issue for a fraction of the price--without excuses, without attitude, and without taking advantage of me. Don't let Stuttgart Auto waste your money like they wasted mine. Also, this goes without saying, if I could give them zero stars I would, but I guess one will suffice. read more

I wanted to like this shop but I had a pretty bad experience. Brought my brand new RS3 here for basic catback exhaust install and an oil change. They screwed up the entire wiring install of the exhaust by installing the wiring backwards.... Not just once, but in 2 places. They didn't read the instructions that were super clear and basic to get the wiring positions/colors right. On top of that they didn't even test the install, it was clear that the exhaust didn't work properly and flaps didn't open as described in instructions. Upon mentioning it they were a bit defensive and annoying to deal with. I ended up taking the car apart myself the redoing the wiring the right way. On to the oil change. They used the wrong freaking oil. The car takes 0w-30 and they carelessly used 5w-30!! Maybe that's "ok" in their book but mistakes like this can void your warranty. They also messed up my oil change by not properly sealing the oil filter nib, so fresh oil was weeping out of my filter for weeks after. (Common Audi quirk with the new filter drain system) Fixed that myself too and had to clean my belly pan and engine bay. Whole thing was $1300, no refunds or credits offered, was stressful and a waste of my time. Lost my business and never going back. I've decided to start servicing my car myself because I have lost hope. Bad mechanics are either untrustworthy or just plain stupid. I'll give them credit because they only seem to be really stupid. read more

Don't take your car there. Brought my MB SUV there because of an intermittent air bag issue. When I picked the car up it was worse and the bags were fully deflated after a 'diagnostic' that supposedly said the air bags weren't at fault and were fine. While I was driving off the lot with the car w zero suspension the front desk guy actually said it's 'safe' to drive that way. Pulled out and took my car to another shop asap, where their diagnostic said the problem was in fact the air bags. Was told on the phone they were going to use OEM and then showed up and saw the aftermarket products they were going to put in. Brought my 911 here for a post purchase inspection and was quoted 2hr @ $180/hr labor. I agreed thinking they would give me an honest inspection. I should've left when he quoted me $420 for an oil change, but I thought maybe this was just "westside" pricing. Boy was I in for a treat after the "inspection". I was told the issues with my car; alternator was going out and that I should change it immediately or else I could be left stranded on the road as my battery isn't being charged. Quoted me $1666 for a new alternator and 3-4 hr of labor. I did a quick search and saw alternators for under $500. Little did he know I also have a vehicle device monitor that checks my battery voltage, it never once dropped to a level below normal. Second he told me my clutch was going...which is weird bc I would most certainly notice a slipping/worn clutch.. Not liking my experience here, I paid my $360, passed on the $420 oil change and went straight to another indie located in mid-city. Guess what, the oil change was half the price and they didn't find any of the issues Stuttgart claimed my car had. My father was an honest mechanic (unfortunately not a Porsche one) for over 30 year and places like this gives good honest mechanics like my father a bad name. STAY AWAY! I am typically a very loyal client. So, I hope that Stuttgart Automotive will be pleased to know that they have become my new "go to" auto repair shop. I was with my previous shop for over 20 years, but was motivated to look around for a new resource after several events left me disappointed. It took Brian, David and Max less than 24 hours to win me over. From the initial conversation with Max in which he sought advice from his mechanic in real time while we spoke, to David who checked me in today, to Brian, the soft-spoken, professional owner who immediately inspired confidence as he shepherded me through the process, I hope they don't mind seeing me around for the next 20+. I know little about cars, but I do know about customer service. I left the shop today, equipped with a new battery at a fair price and within the time frame I requested. I'm spending my time to write this review because I used to know the owner (Randy) and my cars used to get fixed there, but the new manager ( Brian ) is not much recommended. I brought my 1978 Mercedes 450Sl for changing the water pump and a major tune up service since the car was in garage for a while, I was told by the manager ( Brian) there will be 3 hours of labor for changing the water pump and installing it the new parts behind the phone call, keep in mind this was before i had taken the car there, so took the car there. In addition to that, I had written down the services I would like to be done on the car, such as flushing the break fluid and transmission oil and etc, after couple days of no one calling to give me any updates on what it needs to be done on the car, i gave him a call to have an update on what is going on with the car. He came up with a price of $4430 dollars for the services, since this price was out head i point out the unnecessary work on the car, which included changing the battery for $400 dollars, changing the master break cylinder $880 dollars which totally work good and some other unnecessary stuff. On the last couple of days, he calls me telling me the car has a time starting up while the engine is hot, but now its working fine, and that I should drive the car for a week to see what happens, I had specifically told him the day before i shoulda get the car back please check everything and if the car starts up after u guys do the drive test, or any other thing but I suppose they had left to fix these issue the last day the last minutes. On Friday when i went to get the car back, I saw a invoice for $3340 dollars, so I ask him can you tell me the things u have done on the car?? in return he says: "you can see the things mention on the paper", VERY RUDE PERSON WEHN IT COMES TO TALK IN PERSON ABOUT HIS SERVICE.(((( TOTAL parts of $940 and HE HAD CHARGED ME for 12 HOURS OF LABOR FOR $2390 )))))and yet they didn't inspect the back of the car with the broken sway bar linkage that is very cheap to be fix, and they didn't do the flushing the break fluid, instead he tells me the back of car makes a noise, INSTEAD OF CHANGING THE $20 dollars sway linage bar. **** AFTER LEAVING THE SHOP I NOTICED I GAVE HIM EVEN $50 DOLLARS MORE THAN THE INVOICE PRICE; keep in mind that, HE WAS COUNTING THE MONEY WHILE I GAVE HIM THE dollars, (((( BUT HE DID NOT SAID ANYTHING ABOUT THE EXTRA MONEY THAT HE RECEIVED)))) . I have taken my classics benzes to jeff's automotive , which they used to send the cars to this place to get fix, but the the owner Randy is retired now and there is new manager(Brian) which seems very angry, rude and most importantly dishonest manager. I believe the customer needs to be satisfy both with the work and the pleasing personality of the management. I was looking to keep going there for futures services, but definitely after this experience with the manager guy I will never go there again, after spending over $3000 dollars for 12 hours of labor the engine doesn't turn on while the engine is warm, has broken sway linage bar on the rear of the car ($20 dollars) part, which was very easy to be fix, and the old break fluid, but due to poor inspection it was left alone and it wasn't change. read more

I left the garage with my wife Friday at 5 pm. we drove 5 minutes the oil light was here again. I call right away, closed and no answering machine. Stop by on Tuesday, nobody was at the reception. In a nutshell: because of the work and care from Stuttgart, my 55 year-old Porsche drives like I imagine it did when it was new. I've been taking my 356 to them for almost 20 years and because of their care, it never needed any major work other than normal oil changes. Well, my number came up and it was time for some engine work. The bill wasn't small but it was far, far lower than it would've been at most other shops that will even work on a collectible car like this. In the end, she has never run better.
