Fast forward a few months and the issue still persisted, and the transmission ended up not shifting into other gears, so I ended up taking it to a specialty transmission shop yesterday (03.18.2026). All in all I would recommend this shop but maybe just for simple repairs and nothing too out of the ordinary since they do not specialize in any particular area of autos. *Also, it would've been better if they just said that they dont or wont touch the transmission. Unfortunately the repair that was done here may have ultimately damaged the internals because of lack of knowledge with this vehicle. *On another note, I called the number provided on Yelp (and also what I had saved on my phone) and another "Sergio" answered claiming to be a car wash person and he was confused on how I got "his" number. If they did change the number they should disclose it on Yelp so others wont call the wrong person/ repair shop. (Number I called was 805.483.7901 as it shows on Google and Yelp.) This is not to bash anyone, im simply stating that if a shop is not knowledgable on a particular vehicle they (the shop) can choose to offer the client an alternative shop instead of taking on work they cant fulfill or diagnose correctly. One experience that really stood out happened years ago when my car key broke off in the trunk lock. A mobile locksmith quoted me $250 to remove the broken piece and make a new key. Instead, I took the car to Sergio's. Chava came out with a small tool, removed the broken key in less than five minutes, and had me on my way. He didn't charge me a dime. That kind of honesty, professionalism, and customer service is hard to find these days, which is why I continue to trust Sergio's with my vehicles.

I called Brown's Transmission and the owner talked me off the ledge and encouraged me to bring the car in for evaluation. Drove the car from Honda to Brown's and was immediately greeted by Ralph. I explained the issue to Ralph and he put the car in the lift. Took Ralph maybe three minutes to take off the plastic shield that covers the transmission and a portion of the engine compartment. Ralph brought the shield to me and showed me that there was not leakage under the transmission in the usual areas (front and aft seals I believe) which was absolutely clean but quite a bit of fluid on the drivers side of the shield. Ralph pointed his flashlight in the area of the leakage and with a couple minutes found that I had a loose transmission sensor that allowed fluid to leak. Ralph tightened the sensor and cleaned up the area as beautiful he could do that we could confirm no more leakage. I was only asked to pay $40 for the Honda fluid which was flushed. Wow! Additionally, Ralph left the plastic shield off and asked me to bring the car back in a week or two so that he can confirm the leak was fixed and would reinstall the shield. This shop provided incredible service and I have now sworn off Ocean Honda will now be coming to Brown's Transmission from now on. Incredible owner and Ralph went above and beyond to help me. Dropped off my car on a Monday and get a call on Tuesday saying they figured out the problem. Said it was electrical but didn't really explain what was wrong with it and quoted me $680. Told them I couldn't do that price and he says it usually cost $800 anywhere else. I tell him that I'd be picking up the car soon. Take an uber to the shop to pick the car up and they are closed for an hour on lunch. Fine, I wait around since I do not want to waste more money on uber. When the mechanic finally arrives after lunch I ask him what exactly is wrong with the car. He proceeds to vaguely tell me the car is old and that the wiring is messed up and it keeps blowing the fuse. I then ask him if he did in fact change the fuse, said he did. I take the car to auto zone and find the blown fuse and replace it. Solved the problem, no more issues, hasn't blown the fuse since. SO THIS SHOP TRIED TO CHARGE ME $680 FOR A BLOWN FUSE. For those of you who know nothing about cars, please get a second opinion or do some research online before paying these people.
