Horror story experience my whole time there. To start off teachers would tell you no to basic human survival needs. There was stories that circulated between the students where when teachers would tell the students "no" for hours and kind of yell at them for asking to go to the bathroom they would end up peeing on the seats because they couldn't hold it anymore. This happened multiple times. When I was in third grade our teacher would force us to put our water bottles and lunch bags up in this cubby thing. I would not be able to drink water for hours on end because my teacher would yell at me when I would ask. I came home dehydrated and my parents had to meet with the teacher multiple times I think, it was so bad. One day after school I was still there and the football team was practicing. A high school guy fainted and had to be wheeled out on an ambulance bed and I was told it was because of dehydration. I know that the coach kept telling him the same thing my teacher would tell me. Basically mentally abusing us because we asked to drink water. Many people in my class would forget their water bottles and would have to drink out of water that tasted like METAL like really bad and it was boiling hot. Sometimes it would burn their lips it was so hot. Teachers would force us to sit outside on concrete when it was so cold my fingers would go blue and they forced the girls to either wear skirts with strictly only tights underneath or ugly boy pants NO ONE wanted to wear. Also in 3rd grade I was a pretty good writer. I loved writing it was one of the only things that I was gaining confidence from. I showed a paper I wrote to my teacher because she was correcting all of the students papers and she yelled at me telling me my worst subject was spelling and that I'll never be a writer. And then I started crying, and I remember her saying this because it was so traumatizing, something like "I know those are just crocodile tears stop crying, I know you're faking it" I actually think she had something wrong with her. I never really wrote again after that. The teachers got off on reprimanding and having power over the students. There was a special ED kid in my class. Let's just say I wouldn't want my kid being treated that way. Do not under any circumstance send your child to this school ESPECIALLY if they are special ED read more

I have a child who has gone here since 6th grade and is now going to high school here. I like how the kids can go from kindergarten to high school and stay at one school. I now have two kids that go here and I don't have any major complaints except for the traffic really. I've had 2 teachers I disliked for my oldest but those issues were resolved quickly. My oldest has an IEP and the school has been very accommodating and great with their IEP team. Mr. Byrne is a great IEP manager and our kid is going to miss him when they go to high school next year! The uniforms are great because I feel like they focus on education more than what the kids are wearing if it's popular or not. Their website has a student handbook to know what your kids will need and wear for the school that's appropriate it's not hard to provide necessary uniform items and avoid policy issues. Overall I'm happy. My kids are thriving and happy here at Santa Rosa. The lottery can be frustrating but if you start as red track it's easy to move on up to a different track. Go rangers! read more

I would give 0 star if I can. Please don't take your kids to this school. They are incompetent from the principal to the coordinator . Always short on teachers, fail to provide education needs for your children and don't believe in their tracks, your kid will never get to blue track. They don't care if they made mistakes, they just force you to accept their fault but also put you and your kids to follow their strict rule. We waited and waited for this school. My boys finally got in and now I'm not happy. They run discipline like it's a jail. Here's my example. My son's tie broke on the way to school. They let him borrow one for the day. My husband said he would get one at target that day. Didn't think anything else of it. Fast fwd to the next month. My son is getting ready for dress up day and asks where his tie is. Dad says they didn't have any at target I thought mom got one on Amazon. Well dang it. Called the school and they said ok he can borrow one. Get an email that day stating my son will have detention at 7:30 am the next week. I'm sorry what?? I emailed and explained to them that it was OUR fault as the parents. Why would you punish my son? What sense does this make?No one can explain it except policy is policy etc. I do not care. My kids will NEVER have to suffer for our mistakes. Needless to say I'm taking them out and we will be at Springs charter now. Lots of ppl don't like how this school is ran anymore. This school is a pitiful example of what a school should look like. Kindergarteners are severely held back and not taught basic kindergarten skills. The dress code is the most pathetic thing I have ever seen, and the staff has really gone overboard with this years policies. It is apparent that the staff here delights in getting children in trouble, and they have ZERO care for the actual students. I'm honestly appalled. As a charter school, they should be set apart. They are- set apart in terrible treatment and fear monger if the students. I can't believe how downhill they have gone. Teachers are ignorant and only care about you when it comes to the dress code, there's around 3 fights every week. On back to school night there were rats in classrooms, by the gym, everywhere! My daughter attended Santa Rosa Academy for 4 years. (full time program). It became apparent that the school spent money on the campus to make it appear more ostentatious, while neglectng to provide a warm and safe place during the harsher weather patterns for lunch and recess. In the winter when it rained the primary school children ate lunch sitting on the concrete sidewalk, under a shallow covering. The girls wear a skirt. (Only tights allowed, no leggings. They don't wear the uniform pants because they look like boys slacks). In hot weather, children must stay out for recess in over 100 degree heat, with little or no shade. The water fountain isn't chilled or filtered. A boy in middle school did a science project and determined the water fountain was of the same quality as the toilet water. My daughter (along with a few other students that I knew) came home more than a few times with dehydration symptoms, only to be ignored by the staff. I had 3 close friends who homeschooled through this school. All three agree that the workload is enormous. Just today a friend who just started, showed me the assignments for her 3rd grader for the week. Each subject has a 3 page list. A list in small type with no spaces. The 3 page list of assignments for each subject is extremely excessive and on top of those assignments, 1hr daily of IXL is mandatory. Santa Rosa does not give the typical money allotment allowance for extracurricular activities. With any other Home School program, the student receives a budgeted amount of educational units each semester which allows them to participate in activities including hiring a tutor of their choice as well as sports activities, art, music, horsebackriding,field trips, etc. Most of the parents who have children attending do not want to rock the boat or let anyone know how unhappy they are. It was a relief to find so many families experiencing the same if not more. The parents seemed to be afraid to tell the truth and speak up, but I had alot of people confide in me, probably because I left. read more

If you have a child with special needs this is not the school for you. The sped teacher thinks of all different reasons why she cannot provide the service. They cannot wait to get ride of you the moment you attend. My son was entitled to APE. They did not have a provider. He went the entire 2 months we were there without the service. We could not wait to leave. I've talk to parents that have been on red track for 5 years never to get in through the lottery! My daughter went to SRA K-third grade, in the full time curriculum (blue track). I felt the school didn't make the children a priority. It became very clear that the school's priority was making money and staying in business. The staff was always very cordial but it was superficial. When the families and students had issues they weren't taken seriously. The school never really took responsibility for anything on their end. When I took my daughter out, parents came up to be in large numbers telling me about the bad experiences they were having and how they felt they couldn't speak up. Although I didn't want my daughter at age 9 to change schools, it was a very good decision. She's been going to a different school for 2 yrs now, still full time and we are having a better educational experience. read more

Trust me, if I could give this school no stars, I would. It is absolutely horrible! A school that was once about character has been corrupted for the sake of making profit. They treat their well behaved students as if they are prisoners, have a lack of student interest, and administration needs a large reality check. This is the worst school in the state! Their phone policy is getting WAY too strict now!!! My son was finished with school, walked through the gates, and got out his phone to text me that he was finished. Once he did, a staff member confiscated his phone. I understand if you want no phones on campus, but if my son needs to next me to pick him up AFTER HES DONE WITH SCHOOL and OUTSIDE THE GATES there should be no problems!!!! As with ALL SCHOOLS this school isn't perfect. In my opinion they Excel at the things that are most important. Safety and my children's academic and social development. My oldest who has been attending SRA for 8 years and is now in 11th grade has never seen a "fight" or "group fight" at this school. My other son who is in the middle school grades has also never seen a school fight. If someone is being bullied it's not brushed under the rug or left alone till it escalates. There is zero tolerance for bullying. The school has security measures in place to make sure kids are as safe as possible. If grades fall below a C they are required to go to after school tutoring to get the grade back up. It's free tutoring! The teacher is investing their time to help your child succeed. This seems like a nice School and all, although they're always losing Paperwork or other files. Such as, when I was being signed in this School, even though I was registered in, they lost all my paper work! That just blows really, this School also is never in between, either its way to easy or hard. There's never one in between the two! Overall, this School is ok at best, though the Staff of the School, should get their Papers neat and organized, since all their paper gets all lost and then the Parents have to redue everything! Reducing more stress and waste of time on The Parents and the Child as well! I went to this school and it changed my life. I did the red track program and met with a teacher weekly who truly cared about and motivated me. When I went there my sophomore year of high school I didn't think I would even make it to college because I was struggling academically and with self-esteem. I now am about to graduate college and enter a master's program. If it weren't for this school and their independent study program and dedicated staff, I truly feel I would be in a different and worse place in my life! read more

First let me say that if your student is in Special Education or has special needs then this school is NOT for you. Sure they appear to want to make accommodations. (They have to, they are a public charter that is funded by the state) When you enroll in SRA under independent study and your child has an IEP, you are on a 30 day review, which I knew going into. I do not disagree with this time frame, as it is necessary to evaluate if the student will be successful with their curriculum. However, it felt as if they were going through the motions and their intentions were to always recommend that my son go to a different school. One of the questions that lingers on my mind is this: What exactly does your special education program support? Your school is a college preparatory academy, what kinds of learning disabilities can you support? Or is it that you have to offer Special Education services in order to receive money from the state? The other issue I had is with their uniform policy. I spent over $200.00 purchasing the necessary "attire" that was deemed appropriate so that my son would be allowed on campus. I would think that for the first 30 days, they could have given a waiver to those students that are provisional. My son already had blue shorts and a white polo however, since it wasn't purchased from their vendor it was not acceptable. (I am sure the school receives money back from the uniform vendor as their prices are very high!) I am a professional working mother who wanted to home school her child. From the start the EA assigned to us made me feel discriminated against, in that she had her perceptions about me as a working professional. Despite this, I worked every school night and on weekends so that my child completed his work. Everyone involved in my son's curriculum had a copy of his IEP. His EA complained about his ability to form proper sentences and punctuation. Hello!! He is in special education, can you give him a break and grade his work based on his abilities?? I worked with him. I emailed lots of questions since they are not available via phone most of the time. As a matter of fact, I emailed the EA to ask if she could call me when it was convenient, which she never did. If it was important to her or her job requirement then she was great at calling you on the phone. I want to be clear that I am not angry that SRA did not work out. In the end I agreed with their recommendation. I am just very disappointed in how the process made both my son and I feel. I hope this review helps any parents who have a child with an IEP/learnng disability. I am sure that SRA is a great school if your child does not require any special needs. read more

This review is strictly for the homeschool program. Not the program itself, but how some of the staff treat you after withdrawing from the program. Let me first start off by saying that I have had my daughter in Santa Rosa for 4 years now. She started in 5th grade in the homeschooling program. It was tough but we pulled through and once they had openings for blue track, she went in. I recently started homeschooling my son (which is a completely different kid, with a completely different personality with a completely different way of learning) every kid is different! So after only 3 weeks, I can tell this program isn't for him, so as a mother, wanting to do what's best for my son, I withdrew him. Well today as I was turning in his books, another EA, wish I knew her name, was in the library and decided to chime in with her thoughts and opinions and started a conversation by saying, "over night?" I was confused as she repeated that. I looked over my clothes and she basically said I needed to give it more time, but the way it was said was so rude and with such an attitude. She said more snappy comments but I don't want to make this review too long. Mind you, she knew the EXACT reason I decided this, since she was listening to my conversation with the EA assigned to us and still thought it be necessary to give her two sense and try to make me feel like a failure. Another thing is, I received an email with an attached form to sign and in the email it stated that my son will be removed from all wait lists (ok, fine, we decided that this wasn't for him anyway) but that any other siblings on the wait list will be removed also!!! WHAT?!?! So this tells me that every kid should be the same, learn the same and be kept in the same box!! NEWS FLASH!!! Not every kid learns the same!! So if anyone is thinking about enrolling, just know that if you withdraw one kid and you have any other kids on the wait list, they'll be withdrawn also and they will take that decision personally! read more

I encourage you to rethink putting your child in Santa Rosa Academy. This is said to be a "school of character" yet some of the staff show no examples on how to do so. Starting with the new math teacher, the students have recently received. I do not appreciate the bad attitude, eye rolling, and discouraging this new teacher has brought to the children. I would like to have seen staff members acting upon this issue and letting the kids talk to another staff instead of blowing it off. Another issue is that this school has a problem with firing teachers. Last year some of the high schoolers are said to have 6 English teachers in 1 year! This year unfortunately, two of the best teacher were fired and for reasons that were most likely not acceptable or fair. read more

Excellent public charter school! The staff and teachers care about students and their success. It's a great alternative to the really big middle and high schools. They offer great engineering and biomedical classes and focus on building character in your child. My son has ADA requirements and they have gone ABOVE AND BEYOND to accommodate him. We are very happy with the staff and their compassion. His work is well based and organized. He is expected to follow their guidelines that you go in knowing (everything is very well outlined prior to signing up). Their have been no surprises. Don't send your children here. Had my daughter enrolled and that school held her back in so many instances. My daughter was enrolled in the wrong math class mostly because she was behind in her math, so she wanted to switch to algebra (standards require it so it'd be better and would help her catch up) the dean told us no, because her other friends were in that class and would talk too much. Why would he put that issue in front of her education or helping her acquire her credits? Made the mistake of believing she could do it but she failed, she turned in all her homework, but did too poorly on tests. When I switched her from Santa Rosa she had to take algebra as a junior in high school. They also frequently suspend students for minuscule reasons, taking away their education, instead of helping bettering them or working on discipline. The school favorites children and yes there is privilege between students. The school also doesn't have a structured disability program. All around this school is unprofessional and really incompetent. read more

I went to the orientation for this school. They advocate for homeschooling which, is not an option for my family. I feel it is vital to a child's well-being to be socialized early so they are not, like so many are, disrespectful, disruptive, and disorganized. I did put both my children on the waiting list for full time school. However, they way they pick is by lottery. So, your child could be in that bucket for a long time. I chose another option because my son was not doing well in a normal public school setting. He is defined as having Ausperger's Syndrome. He likes routine and being in smaller classrooms. This year they are putting him in a room with nearly or maybe more 50 students and two teachers! How can he thrive in a setting such as this? Therefore I hoped that Santa Rosa would be my answer. I am not going to hold my breath. They favor siblings already enrolled, then people on the White and Red List, then the rest are in the lottery. We pay for places such as this with our tax payer money. I think it should be based on need. Special circumstances such as child absolutely needs a smaller place to thrive, there is no other place the child can go, the parents are willing to volunteer time for 10 hours a week to help with activities, or their siblings attend blue school. read more
