We honestly weren't expecting much, and just needed a place to kill a few hours while we waited for our lunch reservation, but walked away kinda impressed with the place. The Good: *Free *Fairly large dirt parking lot *Port-o-potty in the parking lot *Leashed dog-friendly (on certain trails) *Trails are flat and should be easy enough for almost anyone of any age. *Lots of wildlife *There's a few other offshoot trails to mix things up if you want to stray off the main one. The Meh: *Not the biggest park The Ugly: *Trails can get quite muddy after a rain Conclusion: Swell, easy trail with tons of nature and easy parking. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit, but if you happen to be in the area and want to get your nature on then it's highly recommended.

The first 3 miles of the race consist of some steady climbing which is a breeze for anyone who typically runs the hills and trails in Annadel state park or the Petaluma back roads. What goes up, must come down. The second part of the race has a slight climb as you make your way into the private vineyard estate which is thanks to the relationship of the race organizers, Empire runners, with the Kenwood community; runners will meander through beautiful scenery through private properties. Race participants should plan for sun protection (sunscreen, hat, water) as the course also does not have many shady spots and you can generally count on the fog burning off and full sunshine well before gun time. Because this race is organized and put on by runners, you can expect clearly marked courses, a few water stops, friendly course volunteers and well organized event.

It scrolls through country roads in Kenwood behind Annadel on Lawndale road and the last stretch is through private property as you run your heart out through the dusty trails and vineyards. Kenwood is not for the faint of heart. It's hilly, it's beautiful, it's mostly road and it's usually hot since it is in Kenwood. The last couple years the weather has played nicely and offered cool climates for the early start time to help beat the heat. Hills are no worse than if you are a local runner who runs Fountaingrove parkway or up in Annadel. You got this if you can take on those hills without missing a beat. Empire runners puts on the race; local organization for gazelle like runners. I'm too much of a turtle in running speed to join; but this is one race that has begrudgingly become a fun tradition with friends and great way to start the festivities.

I have hiked Shiloh Ranch Regional Park many times and have explored several different trails using…read moreAllTrails, and I can honestly say every part of this park is gorgeous. Each visit feels a little different depending on the season. It is especially beautiful after it rains. On Creekside Trail you can hear the water flowing, which makes the hike incredibly peaceful. There is also a scenic spot at the top that is well worth the climb and offers a great place to pause and take it all in. I would consider this a moderate hike due to the incline. The descent can be challenging in some areas because it is steep and rocky, so I highly suggest wearing proper hiking shoes. The trails offer a variety of terrain and along the way you can spot many different species of mushrooms, which adds to the experience if you enjoy nature observation. The park is easy to access, not overly crowded, and it closes at sunset. Overall it is one of my favorite places to hike in the area and a great option if you want a scenic, peaceful hike with a bit of a challenge. Highly recommend.

If you have a regional parks pass, please bring this with you and you can park for free. Some people that don't want to pay park outside the park and walk in. There is a picnic area at the entrance and picnic tables and benches throughout the park. There are clean restrooms at the entrance of the park. Pro tip: Bring water with you! You can choose to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the views. In the winter months it gets somewhat muddy so wear hiking shoes and preferebly ones that are waterproof. There are lots of trails to choose from. Dogs are not allowed. Horses and ebikes are allowed.

This park was badly burned when we went years ago and with the most recent closure, it is finally open (2024) but it is still a bit like a tree graveyard. Unfortunately. Challenging hike, beautiful views, I love that it can connect to Gunsight rock, which is an awesome spot to picnic and have a break. On a clear day you can see all of the bay! You can park off Pythian as mentioned or get to it by Sugar Loaf. Parking off Pythian is part of the regional parks but if you access by Sugarloaf you'll need to park via their pass or a state pass for parking.

I find this frustrating as it is a nice running surface and conveniently located. Back in 2014, Santa Rosa Junior College's President Frank Chong sold voters on Measure H, entailing $400M+ in property tax assessments (this is on top of the numerous other bonds we're all still paying on going back over 20 years). Measure H costs me personally over $400/year in added property taxes, so I had been hoping to utilize some of the facilities I help pay for. This was not to be the case. The track at Bailey Field has been locked shut to use by the taxpayers who funded it. Is this even legal? In the past, SRJC's track and field has been open to local citizens to use, which seems fair considering it's their tax dollars that paid for its construction and ongoing maintenance. That it is now off-limits to those who were compelled to pay for it seems improprietous. The administration should determine hours throughout the week that Bailey Field is open for public use. This should be taken up with the Board of Trustees at a public hearing. For me, the takeaway is to vote against any future bond measures put forward by Santa Rosa Junior College.

There are not enough stars for this review!…read more Every bit of this outfit is outstanding. The staff is friendly, informative and patient. The equipment is ideal for the area, with plenty off choices for more intense rides. The options for "trails" are urban for the local area, and north and south for the Wineries. We had a package deal that has a guide for the first day and on our own for the second day. Our guide, Taylor, was way cool. A local farmer/roadie/ San Fran local, with keen intel on the farming/bio-dynmic/ foodie/ family history. He clearly has a great history and relationship with the folks we stopped at and every bit was personable and flexible. He had an excellent read on the strength and weakness of the group. Overall, we did a gentle 20 miles on cushie bikes and drank a touch more wine then is good for willfully concurring the hills. We had a group of 6 and took a north loop that peaked at Quivira with the most spectacular bio-dynamic gardens. I mean bees, pigs, chickens and just the coolest raised beds I have ever seen. Seriously, I could happily retire and intern here. Our second day, was on our own on the southern route, me thinks just about 23 miles. My Aunt made it to Porter Creek (not on purpose) but I peaked at Thomas George Estate. We followed recommendations and lunched at Arista. Worthy!!! This is another heaven on Earth spot. It is not over rated. My only small complaint, on the second day (far beyond the control of the good folks at Wine County Bikes was the aggressive construction truck drivers. Mind you...there is a consistent "you're going to get hurt bad if you come off the road" with no clear bike lane. With that said the greater majority of cars, albeit fast, are very good about dealing with "tourist bike riders". Highly recommended!!!!!!

There were quite a few people walking along the trail. It was a nice sunny day, but on the cool side, walking under the trees, and hearing all the birds was delightful.

My first half marathon ever...and it was a GREAT experience. I don't like to run with music too…read moremuch so I need nice scenery to motivate me and this course did just that. Not only that, since it's near halloween people come decked out in costume and running which made it also fun and entertaining to see. Water stations every 1.5 miles along with port-a-potties were just one of the major bonuses of how organized this race was. Organizers also had bus to shuttle runners to and from start/finish. At the finish line get ready to eat, drink, and mingle. Everyone was having a good time and families even reunited to celebrate. Very fun atmosphere. I even opted to go to the finisher's party at Clos Du Bois which was very nice. There was lunch provided along with two glasses of wine. Great time all around. I'm already looking forward to going to another one. BONUS: I thought it was adorable our medal is actually multipurpose with a wine stopper and cork screw on it. awesome...

OMG - this was so fun! Since it was Halloween, lots of runners ran in costume (including me... I…read morewas Wonder Woman). We started in the dark, under a spotlight, but then the sun began to rise over the vineyards as we set off for our 13.1 miles. I got lots of encouragement through the entire race from Wonder Woman fans, which I really needed to keep my energies going. For those intrepid wine tasters, one of the wineries on the route was offering a tasting at mile six. Lots of runners were lining up, otherwise, I would have been in there too! At the end of the race, you get lots of whooping and yelling as spectators give you their love as you cross the finish line (I finished in 1 hour 56 minutes). The best part of all is going to the wine expo after the race. You're exhausted, sweaty, and floating on an endorphin high, proudly wearing your flashy medal on your neck. You then get an engraved keepsake wine glass and start sipping tastings from around 30 wineries. Who needs Gatorade! By 9:30am, I had run 13.1 miles, gotten rave reviews for my Wonder Woman costume, was wearing a freaking cool medal, and had a wine buzz. A nice way to start Halloween. I'll be doing this again next year!
