They were polished black. I took them back and he did the work needed to remove the black polish he used and got the shoes back to navy blue. The owner suggested dyeing the front to cover a few scratches, and I agreed, assuming it was part of making them look refreshed. I was charged $45, which felt steep, especially since I didn't even get a shine. The shoes looked ever slightly better (at first) far from a $45 charge, the dye peeled less than 24 hours.
