This place is located in the Niles District of Fremont. They sell a large variety of Olive oils and pastas as well as breads, corn snacks and flavored popcorn. The artichoke bread which is made locally is DELICIOUS and is only available on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. There were other varieties which I'll probably go back to try. The owner helped us and gave us a brief history of the store and where the items were made. Very nice experience, I'll be back for an Olive oil tasting soon. read more

sapore messo was a bit of a mess-o! as much as i like supporting niles and small businesses this experience was just a bit weird. the products are not bad though. i've been to this store like 3 times probably and bought their olive oil/balsamic. their stuff is pricey but good and the flavor is amazing...and there are samples as well as smaller bottles. last time i went there was local raw honey too! as for the owner dude he is a little weird. i kinda feel bad adding to all the unfavorable reviews around him but like...a girl's gotta talk. it feels like sometimes he likes you and sometimes he doesn't. like sometimes bro be on his deriod and gives me the crappiest stankiest attitude and other times he is mildly accommodating. it's giving hormonally unbalanced teen girl. this is hilarious since yk..he's an old man. no offense. It seems like the various olive oil and balsamic vinegar shops in the Bay Area all get their product from the same source as all of the bottles and labels that they use are virtually identical. I bought a jar of nice green olives and they were delicious! So given that the products are comparable, what honestly sets one shop apart from another is the owner and how charismatic he/she is -- to be honest, this shop could improve in that aspect. Went here with my mom and sister the other day. I didn't get the owner's name but he was wearing a "Captain Yumy" (yes, only one M") apron and was phenomenal. He gave us multiple samples and did a great job mixing oils we said we liked or were interested in with vinegars to create some really great flavors. We each bought a few oils and vinegars based off of the samples were were able to try. I've been to another store down south similar to this but he has a much larger selection of both oils and vinegars as well as sizing. Additionally, the customer service here was much better as he was attentive and interactive. The store also has a lot of pastas to choose from along with other snack items but our main focus was the oils and vinegars. This is a store we will definitely return to. read more

Came to try simply buy some olive oil and was just looking around, there were a few other people in there and it was dead silent which was awkward already. Was trying to just be quick and my mom saw the sample cups and tried to get a sample (english isn't her first language) and the owner gets mad and tells her don't touch .. like how old are you? and reading the other reviews it looks like it's a common occurrence. We still bought the oil, but we're never coming back, that guy was so mean and we even patiently waited and he saw us but let these other people ahead.. that really irritated me, especially because he was having a long conversation with them and once it was our turn he was back to being rude. What a nice surprise to learn about Sapore Messo in humble Fremont. My wife and I stopped by Sapore Messo on a Saturday afternoon and we were the only ones in the store. Rick greeted us as we walked in and kindly asked if there was something in particular that we were looking for. We let him know we were looking for some aged balsamic to replenish our dwindling supply and he led us towards the back area of the store where the good stuff was. We were able to try out a small sample of the aged balsamic and it was everything I was looking for: sweet and viscous. The balsamic was so good I ended up getting a few bottles along with another bottle of flavored olive oil. Was walking in downtown Nile's one day and came across this shop. My boyfriend and I walked inside to check it out and saw corn nuts we were interested in purchasing. There was samples in the bottles and we picked a few up to try. We shook the bottle to get the corn nut out because nothing was coming out of the bottle (It's because they were stale). The owner looked at us and was very rude and said "don't shake my bottle you're going to ruin the flavor" well sir we had to shake the bottle because how else were your stale corn nuts going to come out? The only 2 flavors that weren't stale were the chile lime and sour cream. We were interested in purchasing those 2. Other than that he had stale corn nuts in his sample bottles. My advice is to not a be a rude owner and replace the stale corn nuts you're offering for samples. read more

The establishment is located in the Niles District on the main strip of the "downtown" area of Niles. The owner is well educated and knowledgeable of the pairings of his selections to what you are looking for. His oils are great for breads, as dressings, and for cooking. That's what we use them for. This is the best, most fresh, oil and vinegar speciality store you will EVER find in the East Bay. I love the exceptional selection of oils with the different levels of purities for the most authentic, virgin olive oil. This little shop is located close to Bronco Billy's Pizza and nestled among many antique stores. Today was my third visit, and the experience is always great. The owner is so knowledgeable and takes his time letting you sample the different flavor combinations. My favorite is the Persian Lime olive oil and I have used it in many recipes. I have not actually been to Sapore Messo but my friend who lives in Fremont sent me a bottle of the Basil Evoo and Peach Balsamic. On the tag there was a recipe for dressing which was three parts oil with one part balsamic. I tried it and it was really delicious! I've used the oil with my chicken, steak, and pork dishes and I have been satisfied with the results. I was planning to get some more when I came to visit in May of 2020 but I had to cancel my trip because I think we all know why :-) but this is an exceptional product and my friend goes there all the time and cooks with it often. We had a SUPERB experience here with my mother in law! Rick was helpful and warm, and our time in the store was enjoyable and informative. When my husband and I -- both in our 30s but look much younger -- went in on our own, however, the service as lackluster. Rick didn't give us the time of day. We weren't offered tastings, weren't given any information, and he acted like it was a chore when we asked questions. It was, frankly, insulting. It seems Rick has some preconceived notions of his clientele and who he perceives as someone worth his time. His olive oils and vinegars are fantastic, so we will probably go back once more. "hickory" faint if any. wikipedia: liquid smoke-"water soluble yellow to red liquid used for flavoring. ..substitute for cooking with wood smoke while retaining a similar flavor...can contain any number of food additives.." food notes: -did peruse label for chemical additives, didn't see any. didn't read label closely till later. -not a fan of BBQ places using liquid smoke nor beef jerky places using same. -no issues with olive oil, pasta (yet), haven't read ingredients. wouldn't buy/consume jerky made with liquid smoke. read more

Because the items he is selling are extraordinary and he knows them inside and out. He greeted us as we entered and quickly explained everything going on in the store. He was genuine and friendly. We were able to taste the olive oils, which went from basic to others with amazing flavors! It wasn't until Rick stopped by and helped us realize a lot of the magic around this place comes from mixing and matching the olive oils with the balsamic vinegars. I am here to tell you the combinations were jaw droppingly amazing! We were there with a friend and both of us left with four bottles each of assorted olive oils and balsamic vinegars.I just reread that and I want to be clear. We each left with a total of EIGHT bottles, four oils and four vinegars... a total of 16 between the two of us. He also sells coffee, which I believe he said is the same coffee used at Chez Panisse. We didn't buy any, but I definitely will in the future. He also raved about the pasta sauce he sells. And the selection of pasta is off the hook! We haven't tried any yet, but we did buy three bags. This place is clean, neat and beautiful and Rick will take you on a taste sensation tour you won't be able to forget. And I challenge you to leave the store without purchasing something. The gentleman running the store is super friendly and knowledgeable about his products. I highly recommend this place for housewarming gifts or souvenirs. Their oils, spices and vinegars are truly rich, but never overpowering. I loved the visit, but what compelled my review was their chocolate hazelnut biscotti. They're sweet, but not overwhelmingly so, so you don't notice you ate half the bag until you look at your bag. The nuts add a really nice texture as you snack, and the biscotti is crunchy, but not like a cracker. The best I've had so far! I'll definitely look forward to my next visit! read more
