Although we were surprised by the small portions, the food was fresh and delicious. All Gluten, dairy, nut free and well presented. The service was quick and the staff were generally helpful. Also loved the reusable dishes, silverware and compostable take out containers. One area for improvement is better organization- there was a bunch of clutter in the small space available. They had a lot of cardboard boxes on either side of the cafe which took away from the ambiance. Also, they very busy with bakery orders or so it seemed. I wanted to get a Lavender Lemonade to go after the meal and it took a while to get their attention to place the order. Overall a great option for those looking for GF and dairy free options. It was our first time swinging by Forest & Flour just now. It was a cute little shop that's allergen friendly. My partner is gluten free so this is for sure going to be a keeper for us. We came here on a Sunday, early afternoon. They have their own parking lot and parking was plentiful. We entered in and loved the decor and how cute of a cafe it was. Lots of plants and greenery everywhere. On top of that, everything is gluten free which is very much appreciated! Because they use premium ingredients, item prices are reflected accordingly. We specifically came to try the rose drinking chocolate and focaccia and to our luck, both were out of stock! We ended up getting an apple ginger muffin which was delicious. The staff was incredibly friendly, and I loved that everything on the menu was gluten-free--something my stomach definitely appreciates these days. The carrot muffin, on the other hand, fell a bit short for me and could have used a little more flavor. Ordered my daughter's first birthday cake here. The online ordering system was such an easy process, but didn't like the fact that I personally had to call them to confirm my cake order. Why no personal follow up? I didn't get to check out the actual Store as my partner was the one to pick up the cake, but I can say that the cake was beautifully prepared and presented! The taste however, tasted super plant based and healthy. I don't think I'm a big fan of bland cakes or leafy tastes, but my daughter did enjoy her first cake ever and that's all that matters! (Updated on July 27 to a 1-star rating) I really do want to support and like this place. It's the only dedicated gluten free place in Fremont, and I want it to do well and be here for a long time. But unfortunately it's also the only gluten free bakery in the Bay Area that doesn't offer dairy along with non dairy options. It's already hard to make GF foods taste good but when you leave out dairy, you're left with dry, bready, crumbly food that's just not worth the price. On top of that not having an espresso machine and charging $8+ for a latte is a sin. Especially when you don't even have actual dairy and instead offer chemical-filled alternatives like Oatmilk. Yuck. I think the service here is great and so is the ambience. It's the food that's always leaving me begging for something better. I really don't like giving this place less than 5 stars, because I want to support it, but dear owner please do something about your products. Look at any of your competition: Mariposa, Sweet Diplomacy, etc - they all do well and offer dairy options. Please. Let me give you a 5 star review. Please raise the bar for yourself. read more

Stumbled upon this cute bakery and coffee cafe after doing a weekend workout! The interior is IMMACULATE! You can really tell the design was thoughtful, and they take such great care of the place! It felt very earthy and healing to be inside. I didn't stay for too long, but I can imagine myself hanging at this cafe since it was very quiet, welcoming and peaceful. The staff is so wonderful and friendly too! I got the iced matcha with some cold brew and a matcha muffin. The drink tastes good; you can tell they use rich ingredients. The drink had a chocolate-like taste, but not sure if that was from the cold brew or the matcha. Regardless, it was great! The matcha muffin tasted like any other muffin, I didn't really taste the matcha, but the texture is soft and fluffy! Though, for just a drink and one pastry, it is QUITE pricey. My drink was $11 and the pastry was about $6-7 since my total came out to be $17. I think the price is valid considering that it's all gluten-free and they use high-quality ingredients. While I don't see myself going too often because of the price and I don't have too many dietary restrictions, I think this cafe is a great place for those who are seeking something tasty and gluten-free. read more

There was a tiny rose petal on top of decoration. We ordered food to share, so we each got a little of everything. I honestly didn't know what to expect with baked goods that are gluten and dairy free. I questioned in my head whether the absence of such ingredients strongly affected the flavor. If I were to take a bite with my eyes closed - would I immediately notice the difference? The answer - it's better than I'd expected. It wasn't heavy or dry, flavorless or underwhelming. It was far from what I'd thought it'd be! I'd had a warm and generous slice of their lavender lemon loaf and it was heavenly. As a matter of fact, I regret not buying a whole loaf. This is a haven if you have food allergies. I don't. I just happen to wander in here while waiting for a printing order next door. They are located on Mission Blvd. across from Ohlone college where the old Starbucks was. Upon entering your eyes are drawn to all the greenery and earthiness around you. The kitchen area is separated by a painted green leaves wall. There are plants everywhere. The place definitely has a cool, hippy vibe. I was greeted by the owner, Sway, who asked if this was my first time there. She then explained that their baked goods are gluten free, nut free, dairy free, soy free, ..., and more which I can't remember. That usually scares me off, but for some reason, I wanted to try their muffins (probably because they looked so good). However, to be totally honest, I did not like them as much as I like the gluten/dairy versions I'm use to, but they were not bad and I'm sure much healthier. Honest review of what we ordered: + Carrot muffin - surprisingly moist with lots of spices, like ginger and cinnamon. Not a lot of carrots and not enough sugar. I prefer my baked goods to be lower in sugar, but this was almost savory. + Monkey party muffin - this is supposed to be play on monkey bread, but was definitely not as gooey or rich. This had a lot of spices, but was a bit dense. + Pour over coffee - good coffee, but not warm enough. Use hotter water and it would be perfect. I don't need gluten-free but I do need to avoid dairy, egg and peanuts. I was excited to try whatever vegan pastries were available today. I left with chocolate cake, pumpkin chocolate chip muffin and a carefully crafted matcha latte with oat milk. I had the privilege of meeting the owner, Sway, today. She is an absolute gem! Friendly, welcoming, passionate to share about the shop's offerings and where the ingredients are sourced from. It's a bit dangerous that this place is so close to my house!! 1) Chocolate cake ~ Moist, decadent and freshly topped with icing per order. The frosting was perfect! Personally, I like the idea of sweets but I can't handle that much sugar anymore. This frosted chocolate cake struck a perfect balance. The frosting had just the right amount of sweetness and didn't feel frothy and oily like some other specialty bakeries make; the cake was moist and decadent. Did I mention, this thing was sprinkled with cacao nibs? SO. GOOD! 2) Pumpkin chocolate chip muffin ~ Having just visited a gluten free cafe a day ago, I still have a (vegan) zucchini loaf that I've been rationing since these things are such treats. I posted a pic comparing the texture between that gummy, gritty (but still tasty) loaf vs. Forest & Flour's fluffy pumpkin chocolate chip muffin. This muffin is hands down the best muffin I've ever had!! The texture was super moist and fluffy, not to mention full of autumn spice. I had to discipline myself to save half for tomorrow. I might add, the size of the chips were perfect; not too small, not overwhelming. They were perfectly distributed throughout the muffin. I'll be heartbroken once this thing moves off the menu! 3) Matcha latte w/oat milk ~ I watched Sway craft my drink full-on with a proper matcha whisk and all. It's nice to be able to order a drink and not have to specify plant milk and be charge extra for it too. *small update at the bottom* As a gluten free person whose bakery options are few and far between, I wanted to love Forest and Flour. We bought a baguette, a monkey bread (monkey party), and were gifted a free bun. The person at the counter was polite and friendly. We followed instructions exactly on the instruction card about how to preserve and prepare these items. Unfortunately all three were quite dense-- the baguette and bun unpleasantly so. The monkey bread had a nice cardamom flavor but we couldn't finish it because, again, so dense. For the premium price (in addition to a 20% "staff wellness" charge on every order) one pays, one would hope it would be edible, but the baguette is completely inedible despite following their exact instructions. From the google reviews, it's clear I'm not alone in this opinion. I want to clarify that the issue isn't the high price-- I understand a livable wage for their workers is necessary. My complaint is that it's a waste of money to spend so much on something you can't even eat. Note about the owners reply below: I believe they have me confused for somebody else. I have never posted this same review on another platform! It is strange to me that they decided to respond to my review in this fashion simply because my name or my review is similar to another bad review they received. In this same vein, I think we can all agree that a standard baguette is longer than 5 inches, so it's strange that the owner is choosing to critique that particular facet of my review.
