This is one of the delightful hidden gems of the Healdsburg area. Seriously, don't limit yourself to downtown. By far, the bubbly (try their Elation because it's divine or their Blanc de Blanc with a slightly salty Mac and cheese - or something like a brown butter sauce with scallops and it'll blow your mind). They're a small local winery and absolutely sweet and a delight. Become a member and they'll pair food with their wines for the pickup parties and stop on by for just a general tasting guaranteed with their signature brownie. It's hard to go wrong. Sapphire Hill is a gem of a family-owned tasting room tucked a short drive from Healdsburg's downtown in The Old Roma Station complex. We did a pre-Covid tasting with friends in summer and their hospitality was so genuinely warm and inviting. During the pandemic we picked up some of their Cinque Blanca white - so easy to drink and it comes in the prettiest sapphire blue bottle. All (or most) of their wines come in the sapphire bottles and would make a beautiful gift. read more

Customer service is top notch. They set the bar very high. Their wines were amazing! The owner takes his time to visit the tables to introduce himself and welcome the customers to his place. Since it was Covid19, reservation were made in advance. Our server Jo Anne was the most beautiful soul you would ever meet. She knew the wines well. It almost felt like she knew us. She had amazing intuition with her guests. Each time she came out to the table, she gave a very personalized touch service. It really made our wine tasting experience extra special especially we came here to celebrate a new bride. As a personal touch to the service, she gifted a personal wine charm to our new bride. Who does this!?!? The sparkling wine and each one of them were special. I wish I can buy them all by the case!!! I'm so happy to find this place! I can't wait to go back and buy some more! What I really loved and came home with: 2019 dry Gewurztraminer Elation Red Sparkling Methode Champenoise. I wish I could take Jo Ann server home. ;) Along with the red wines, they served this beautiful chocolate brownie infused with red raspberry jalapeno jam and drizzled with the perfect caramel sauce that are made in home. Came here with family to try the "Napa wine" experience, and I feel like the main attraction here is the food. Since we didn't get the food, our experience here was alright. We did get a Groupon that included a tasting, light snacks, and 2 bottles + wine glasses to take home. Direction-wise, Sapphire Hill is a little tucked away (the sign faces parallel the road, so it's not easily visible). Basically, if you see a large wooden chair, cross the street and Sapphire Hill is there. You can park in the back if there's no spots available. Upon arrival, we entered with a Groupon and were welcomed warmly. The service was really nice, and we chose to sit outdoors with the wine served to us. Overall, we were served 2 whites and 2 reds along with crackers, salami, and cheese. Then it was followed with handmade chocolate caramels (which were really good!). So the wines: - 2016 Cinque Blanca: Decently standard white. Dry, not bad. - 2014 D'Argento Pinor Noir: Although the most expensive, I'm just not a fan of Pinot Noirs. Really acidic, and the alcohol taste accentuates that. - 2012 - Merleaux Merlot Blend: Alright, neutral red. Nothing too bold. - Casa Rossa - a Cabernet Blend: In my opinion, the best of the four (though I am into Cabernets for disclaimer. The Cabernet, Merlot, Alicante Bouchet and Syra blend definitely dilutes it though but at least there's some character.) Overall, the experience was a little lacking although our server was extremely nice and energetic. I can't get enough of Sapphire Hill! My first experience was with a Wine Road event and it was there that I started my love of Cinque Gemma, Porkys 2.0, and salted caramel brownies. What keeps me coming back is their food/wine pairing, great member events, fun atmosphere, helpful and friendly staff, and the fabulous owners and hostess, Lisa & Chris. The intimate tasting area includes a barrel room with seating for about 20 or outdoor tables. Either are perfect options! The food/wine pairing is just fabulous and is all done with toaster ovens and crockpots (haha) and "recipes" are more like suggestions. Each tasting was paired with a different varietal of wine and there seemed to be a rule against your glass being "empty." :) Now,it may be called a "tasting" but it's a good portion and you do not leave hungry. All in all, one of my favorite things to do with a group of friends and one of the best food/wine experiences I've had thus far. (I love the casual, relaxed, fun atmosphere she creates.) read more

Not just walk up to a bar....have some wine.... yeah yeah yeah. They set us down at a little table and they paired little bit sizes snacks with the wines. It was fabulous, personable and more importantly delicious. Truly and experience and not just tasting! I cannot wait to get back on my next trip. We always look forward to our trips up to Sonoma and Napa for the great wines and food the areas have to offer. This trip was our group's Healdsburg outing and we started out at Sapphire Hill, which is located about a mile from downtown in a complex which houses several wineries. Why Sapphire Hill? We came for their great wine and food pairing, which Yelpers gave rave reviews. The winery's tasting room is in front and the wine and food pairing is held in a cool barrel room in back. With three tables with 20 seats, it is a small intimate wine and food affair. Sapphire Hill is operated by a husband and wife team with Lisa hosting the wine and food affair and Chris handling the wine tasting room. Each tasting was paired with two different varietals of wines. If you finish your wine during the pairing, Lisa will happily refill your glass. This was very nice! The five courses were: A mixed greens garden salad with diced pear, dried cherries, candied walnuts and topped with locally sourced goat cheese in a vinaigrette. So light and refreshing to start off. A mini grilled cheese sandwich with local cheese and bread on top of a glass of mushroom bisque. This was so delicious! What sandwich and soup combo! Housemade orecchiette pasta with pork sausage and peas. Lisa says Chris makes the pastas himself. I love pasta and really enjoyed the delicious dish. A sausage lasagna made from fresh layers of homemade thin pasta. Never had lasagna with thin pasta like this. So unusual and delicious! Dessert - The tasting ended with a warm brownie that was topped in caramel. Brownies are not my first choice in desserts, but I polished this off with no problems. That's how much I liked it. So happy to make Sapphire Hill my 800th! What a great experience! This was our first wine and food pairing in wine country and we all enjoyed it. Lisa was a great hostess and entertained us with "Name that Tune" games. We had nice people at our table sharing the experience as well. I absolutely adore this tasting room! We have been there about three or four times so far. Our most recent time was during the Sonoma Wine and Food Affair. We really loved our experience and ended up leaving with several bottles. We first tried the food pairing of pancetta cheese pasta which was delicious. We tried it with the Cinque Blanca (a mix of 5 white varietals). The pasta was so delicious that we used the recipe for our New Year's eve dinner. The Cinque Blanca was the only still white that we purchased on our whole trip, as we are primarily red drinkers. We enjoyed sitting in the barrel room with our food and wine, and really appreciated how one of the staff came around with a few different tastes for us to try. Later, we walked back into the tasting room and tried several different wines. The staff was fun to chat with and we had a great time trying different wines. We hadn't planned on spending so long, but we were really enjoying the experience. One of the most memorable was a dessert wine that tasted just like chocolate called Samocha. I also liked the cute stuff they sell, including T-shirts and candles. I bought a wonderful smelling pumpkin spice candle that I have been burning throughout the holidays. The staff are bend over backwards cool. Lisa is an understated chef to die for.....and Sapphire's wines are exquisite. The stand outs are the HK Zin, and the Pinot Reserva (and I am not a pinot fan). The pairing event is held in their intimate barrel room, lasted hours, and they pour and pour. No stingy nonsense here-they want to share and their enthusiasm is infectious. You will be happy. The reservation part is important - this pairing typically sells out well in advance, so plan ahead and put this in your calendar. They also have wine and chocolate pairings that don't sell out, so if you miss out on food and wine, go to the tasting bar for a sweet treat! For the food, wine, and experience, the price is almost unbelievably low. The food. Oh, the food. Now I know the wine should be the star at a winery, but the food was so well done that I couldn't stop thinking about it as I took my food coma nap right after... For each of the five courses, we got a pour of two different wines so we could see how each wine brought out different flavors of the food. I now have a favorite winery and it's called... Sapphire Hill. A group of 12 of us attended a private wine and food paring at their Healdsburg tasting room. I've often said that the right combination of food and wine makes for a wonderful experience. Both Lisa and Jennifer treated our large group like royalty... I actually felt like we were part of the family. The food and wine parings they served were spot on. Trust me when I say I've been to many wineries (I avoid Napa!) and have never been to a place as special as this. It's refreshing to visit a winery that truly cares about crafting quality wine and has a knowledgeable, friendly staff (thanks Lisa, Chris, Jennifer and Mary!) This is a boutique winery that does limited production wines; most of their wines are only available from the tasting room. If you like the wines be sure to join their wine club while you still can. When we were there they had a special on futures (which I happily took advantage of!) The wine club discounts are really generous. I enjoyed all the wines we tried but the Q Zin really stood out for me. Silky, delicious and unlike any other Zin I've ever had. Also try the Cinque Gemma (an Italian blend) as it's unique to them. I bought some and paired it at home with meatloaf. Yum. If you have a group and are looking for a fun afternoon, be sure to give Jennifer a call and ask her about their wine and food pairing deal. Now I know this is supposed to be a place to do wine tasting, but don't tell the chef that. The wine was good, the food was excellent. My wife and I came for a wine and food pairing and loved every second of our time at Sapphire Hill. The staff was so extremely over-the-top nice, and we even enjoyed the company of our other tasters. Sapphire Hill does their tasting in a cute, chilled barrel room. They bring two glasses which are constantly filled for the food pairings. I can't remember every wine paring but let's get to the real stars of the tasting, the 5 course meal. The first course was homemade tomato bisque shot-glasses topped with a mini grilled cheese bite. The grilled cheese was amazing! Fresh local cheese and buttery fresh-baked bread. The bisque however was the best tomato bisque I have ever had. As soon as I am done writing this review, I am emailing Sapphire Hill for the soup recipe. The wine paired perfectly with the first course, and really every course. The second course we were treated to a fresh garden salad with local goat cheese and cherries topped with a tangy vinaigrette. Again, the wine paired perfectly and the chef was off to a hot start. The third course was fresh pasta with vegetables, and spicy pork sausage. Pork sausage wouldn't be my choice of meat, but that didn't stop me from eating each and every last bite as well as my wife's helping as well. The fourth course were fresh, homemade meatballs stuffed with smoked mozzarella. These meatballs were outrageously good. The smoked mozzarella provided the perfect surprise of gooey cheese. Last, but certainly not least the tasting ended with a warm fresh-baked brownie that was almost like a chocolate soufflé sitting atop some delicious caramel. In case you couldn't tell by now, the theme of the meal is fresh and homemade. My only regret was not taking more pictures of the food. If you're in the Healdsburg area, make a reservation for your tasting at Sapphire Hill. Do it quick before the chef, Sean, leaves to go cook at some fancy 5-star place. read more

I've been purchasing Sapphire's wine for a few years now, mainly because I fell in love with their jammy and delicious Old Vine Zin, Porky's Patch (OUTSTANDING!). They have stepped up and redone their indoor tasting room to be hip and fun with lots of colors and art. I love the staff and I love the wines. If you're a part of their wine club (I definitely am) they pour much larger and do a little food pairing with your wine. And trust me, their food is to DIE for. Came across this winery through my Sonoma Passport Card. The first time I came here with my friends, they served us some appetizers like cheese, popcorn, some crackers with our wine tasting. The highlight of the tasting was the Raspberry Jalapeno Brownie with Salted Caramel Sauce - and they paired that with their 104 yo Cabernet. That gave me good enough reason to join their club. Because I did that, I got deeper discounts on the wine which I was able to extend to my friends. I love this place - they really made it very easy for me! So I planned to come back with my husband and some special friends for their 6 course wine and food pairing. Wow, that was impressive. We had too much to drink and too much to eat. As a matter of fact, even after everybody left, they poured us some more wine and gave us some more food. At that moment, I thought I died and went to heaven. Everything was delicious - as in EVERYTHING! One of my friends came late and she was also allergic to gluten and they were still able to accommodate her requests and made some changes to her course. Chris, Lisa and Joanne are just really nice people. I was actually hoping they'd adopt me:)) The wines are modestly priced and very delicious. It wasn't participating in Winter Wineland, but it was next to our check in location, and one of my co-workers says it's her favorite winery, so our group decided to check it out, and I am so, so glad. The people helping us were super friendly, and I actually ended up buying the Samocha. It's a dessert wine with a dark chocolaty scent and delicate espresso flavor. They decided to give us their caramel brownie bites as well, which, obviously (OBVIOUSLY) is basically perfect with the Samocha. The bites were made on the spot and generously drizzled with warm, sticky caramel. I'm not usually a caramel fan, but I basically decided at that moment that I needed to come in again for their five course pairing, which looks to be only $45. If the quality of their courses matches what I got from that brownie, I am guessing that price is a steal. I'll be coming back the first chance I get!!!! read more

We are members of the wine club here and love it. It is a smaller winery, so we get a lot of personal attention from the owners. We were visiting for the wine pickup party. It was really nice they had some great food that paired with the wines and live music. I recommend getting a bottle of the Q while it is still in stock! If you haven't tried Sapphire Hills wine I would highly recommend this little hidden gem. It's in a small tasting room in Healdsburg. On Front street right across from the Russian river. All of the wines are fantastic, but the Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Zinfandel stood out for me! Jennifer was our host in the tasting room, and what a great host she was. She would pour wine, then disappear to the back and return with food items to pair the wines with. It was a great little surprise and it kept us guessing what she would bring out next for the pairing. Lisa worked with all of my ideas and allowed me to rent her barrel room for a private pairing so we could surprise my parents for their anniversary with a room full of friends, flowers, desserts, an amazing pairing that we all experienced together and an absolute perfect ambiance. We were looking for a wine/lunch place. Looked at the reviews on Yelp and called to make a reservation at 11am. The lady says she can book us next week. I said what about today. She says someone just cancelled so got a reservation at 1:30! Parking was limited because there are about a dozen winery tasting shops almost next to one another and there was a Wine Walk event that weekend. Lisa (one of the owners) seated us and I was worried that the first wine was the Rosa Moscato. A dessert wine to start out? Turned out it was only mildly sweet and quite light and pleasant and paired well with the watermelon salad. The other plates and wines came out at a good clip. My favorite was the chicken cacciatore and the Apostle Zin. I prayed and Lisa refilled my glass! Praise be to the Apostle! All the small dishes were tasty and they vary with the seasons due to whatever is available locally. I'm sure this is harder and more work for Lisa but that ensure the freshness ingredients and variety. A lot of people seem to like Porky's, a very sweet wine which is supposed to go with BBQ but is too sweet for my taste. Definitely a must visit next time in the area and be sure to book a week or more in advance to ensure a seat. read more
