We had an awesome time here when they held an event that let regular folk experience a members-only tasting experience gratis! It was perfect timing as my husband has just been laid off and we needed some cheering up like only wine country can offer. The Burning Man Petit Syrah and the Dark Horse GPS were favorites. They also make a mean Zinfandel. I'ver been really into red blends lately so the Rocslide was also a treat. We left with several bottles of the very drinkable Salmon Run Rose from Dry Creek. We loved that we were able to sit outside on the patio with our kiddo, taking intermittent breaks to visit the adorable goats and chickens. Our host was friendly and attentive and even gave us quarters for the goat feed machine! As soon as we're able, we plan to join the wine club there. My daughter and her husband asked me to join them at this amazing location as I was late getting to their house. As I pulled in I was stunned by the beauty all around and the immaculate grounds. I entered the winery and was greeted simultaneously by the host and my daughter. The interior was just as pretty as the exterior and everything was meticulously in place. Outside there was also a seating area along with animals that you can feed, what a cool surreal experience. I did sample two wines, the Rose' which was light and fruity making me harken for the heat of summer. The second was the 2020 Dragonfly made from a mixture of Northern California grapes and it left me speechless. I highly recommend a stop here to sample their offerings, you won't be sorry. read more

We had a nice visit hosted by Jenelle. They have a cute little tasting room with a bar and a seating area, which is where we sat with Dex. There is also a very nice outdoor patio which seemed comfy as the day warmed up. We both enjoyed the Zinfandel with its bright taste and solid body. We bought two 2019 GSM which we loved as it seemed to capture the region nicely. Be sure to set aside some time to wander the grounds. Dex enjoyed meeting the goats and chickens, but was fascinated with the fish in the creek. Dry Creek runs through the property with seating areas to enjoy the view, very relaxing. read more

Phenomenal red wines and a gorgeous estate with exceptional service to boot! Truett Hurst is just outstanding. If you're a fan of well balanced Pinots and Zins, then Truett Hurst has everything that you're looking for. Wow! I am so impressed with this place. My friends and I came here for a tasting during the Winelove weekend event and we were blown away by the delicious wines and stellar service that we received from Clay and Joey. After having a fabulous tasting at their sister winery right next door (VML), we walked right over for our last tasting of the day here. Truett Hurst is located right in the heart of Dry Creek Valley and boasts some of the best Pinot Noir and Zinfandel in the region. Their estate is so charming! The tasting room is surrounded by beautifully manicured gardens that overlook their vineyards and the flowing waters of Dry Creek. You can take a walk through their property and take in the views as you sip on their amazing wines. We tasted three of their wines during the tasting event; their 2018 Black Sheep Pinot Noir, 2018 Rattler Rock Zinfandel, and their 2017 Darkhorse GPS. Every single wine that we tried was scrumptious. Their emphasis on jammy, smooth, fuller bodied reds was well received. These wines have so much character and complexity. We were stunned at how amazing they were. My absolute favorite was their Pinot Noir! Some of the best that I've tasted in all of Dry Creek Valley! Their sister winery VML also makes amazing Pinot Noir, and we found out that they both have the same winemaker (go figure!). Clay and Joey were so knowledgeable about the wines. They told us a bit of history about both VML and Truett Hurst and took us through a wonderful tasting journey as we sipped on each wine. They both were full of personality and handled our group extremely well. We had been drinking all day and we were definitely feeling it by the time we got there. I'm sure they're used to it, but I'm glad that they seemed to be having as much fun as we were (or at least they acted the part!). We were having such a good time that we ended up staying a little passed closing time. Not once did they try to rush out. They were so accommodating! My friend actually ended up joining their winery that day and we all purchased bottles (I just had to have that Pinot!). The atmosphere is so relaxing here too. We came last Monday and had a wonderful time being hosted by Bobby and Clay. Clay manages the tasting room and is the son of Phil Hurst (head of Truett Hurst) and he really took care of us! We didn't feel rushed, we were able to try so many amazing white and red wines from the Truett Hurst collection. Bobby and Clay kept checking in with us and we had a great time talking with them and learning more about the wine. Look no further. The perfect winery. Staff are so warm and welcoming, as is the modern tasting room. The outdoor seating is plentiful. Their wines are all superb. We especially enjoyed the Sauv Blanc, the "Burning Man Petit Syrah", and the "White Sheep Pinot Noir". Tasting is free with the purchase of 2 bottles, so you can't lose! Explore the large gardens, chill with some chickens and sheep and give the friendly goats some love. We adore the "farm feel" of their grounds. They even provide polarized glasses during the trout run to watch the run of fish in the creek that meanders along the property, with a ton of Adirondack chairs by the creek to imbibe and hang out. But if you're ok with that, go check it out. + 1 star for its beautiful space (creek, citrus trees, etc) + 1 star for the farm animals. Beautiful property that is well-situated for covid times! There are so many private and well-spaced seating areas to enjoy some wine and picnic-- we had no idea how expansive the property was until we did a second walk around with the dogs! Super family-friendly with plenty of seating options, large gardens to walk through and adorable baby goats to pet. There are 4 picnic areas you can reserve easily online and you are welcome to BYO food. They also boast a nice selection of cheese, charcuterie, crackers, chips and sodas etc available to purchase. For our first visit, we booked a table in the Olive Tree Grove which is the most private (apart from the members only area). It was very shaded with well-spaced tables -- perfect for covid and also when you have 2 big dogs and a toddler. The olive tree landscaping is lovely and you barely can tell the parking lot is just on the other side of the fence. We meandered through the other seating areas and the Patio is what you see in most wineries with outdoor tastings -- cute tables under a garden pergola. In non Covid times -- this is the ideal for al fresco wine tasting in a buzzy setting. Past the patio area is a grassy lawn which then leads to the farm pens with chickens, sheep and goats. This is where both human and furry kids alike were enthralled. There is a pellet dispensing coin machine so you can feed some ridiculously cute baby goats to your pleasure. Adjacent to the animal pens is the heavily-shaded, family favorite Picnic Table area, should you want to sip wines with a front row seat to the farm action. Beyond the Picnic Table area is a massive vegetable and flower garden with lovely paths to walk through. Then past the garden, you can follow the path to the shaded Creekside Lounge where there are cozy clusters of red Adirondack chairs set up along Dry Creek. This area is for members only, but if you come on a quiet day -- there's a chance you may be able to snag one of these exclusive spots! The Mrs. and I did some wine tasting at Truett-Hurst on Tuesday on what was the first of two wineries we were visiting that day. Our appointment was scheduled for 10 a.m. We arrived at the winery and made our way to the tasting room. Once inside, we were enthusiastically greeted by Bob who is the owner(Retired). We took a seat outside in the shade. The tasting area is a large patio shaded by trees. Very relaxing. As Bob was pouring, he gave us a little background on the winery and encouraged us to walk around and check things out. With a glass of Sauvignon Blanc in hand, the Mrs. and I left kiddo behind and checked out the property. There is a large beautiful garden, goats, chickens, and a shaded seating area along the bank of Dry Creek...which isn't dry at all. Our tasting experience at Truett-Hurst was one of the best we've had. We ended up staying for two and a half hours. The winery is also kid friendly. read more

This was one of our favorite wineries and so sad that it's been sold and is closed. I've been a member for over ten years and lots of good times there. No one has told us of the sale which seems wrong. Lucky I picked up my wine shipment before they closed. The events they used to have were fantastic and lots of locals were there enjoying the beautiful Dry Creek valley. The pig roast was my favorite and the staff treated everyone like family. We love Truett-Hurst, and through vibes, ambience, and delicious wine were convinced to join their wine club in our very first visit last year. The staff always treats us so well and are super accommodating of our dog. When you do a tasting, you're situated in a beautiful part of their space, and on a warm day in Healdsburg, this is the place you want to be. While we're not particular with the kinds of wines we like to drink, we've always enjoyed each one in their tastings. The staff loves to sit with you and talk about their wine, and what we bring home always elevates our meals. And besides that, we love going just to walk around their space. Their picnicking area by the creek is relaxing to sit in, and we also love saying hello to all their animals. Being here has always felt like a micro-vacation, and we have so much love and appreciation for Truett-Hurst. One thing of note, though, is that cell signal is awful in the area, so make sure you and your party can get there without issue beforehand! read more

Lovely place for a picnic, but the reservation fee is kind of silly. The grounds are medium size and are nice to walk around. You can see goats and chickens by the picnic tables on the patio, or in the olive grove. You can also also eat and drink by the creek which is very lovely and peaceful- that would be my top choice in terms of nice scenery- though it only has lounge seating and no picnic tables in that area. Everything is well shaded by trees. Reservations made online and you can pick one of the areas. You can bring your own picnic food, but they also sell some snacks and drinks. It's $20-25 per person just to reserve, which is silly, since they also make you buy 1 bottle minimum on top of that. I didn't really think it was worth it since you're paying 40-50 per couple for nothing when you could get a flight somewhere else. It was dog friendly which was a plus, and a great place to take kids because of the animals. Bring quarters so you can buy goat feed! read more

We're almost at the one year mark of the pandemic/ social distancing, and I expect everyone to know how to wear a mask. In fact, the latest recommendation is for us to wear two of them. On my visit on March 4, the woman working inside the tasting room wore an ill fitting mask which kept slipping under her nose. I suggested a trick to help her adjust it, but this was ignored. I enjoyed the grounds and when I left she was still tugging at her mask. How many people did she pour wine for, handle their credit cards, talk to? Was she vaccinated? I love this place, and I usually have a wonderful experience every time I stop by. The staff is attentive and the grounds are lovely. Yesterday everything was great except for this one employee's non compliance with her mask. read more

I have been here twice now and have liked their wines each time. My friend liked it so much that she ended up joining their wine club. Besides liking the wines, she liked the fact that there were special areas for members only on Saturday & Sundays like the red Adirondack chairs with wine barrel tables that are down by the creek which is so peaceful and serene, the deck/patio area, and that they are family and pet friendly. The patio area is open to non-members on Saturday and Sunday if you call ahead and schedule an at-table-tasting appointment. And the members only area are open to the public Monday through Friday. I really like the tasting room staff as they are very knowledgeable and friendly. On both occasions we were greeted by Mike Duvall who is a wealth of information regarding the winery and the wines. What's nice is he isn't pushy about the wines, or the wine club, he treats you as if you were his best friend and you were on a wine tasting adventure together. And he doesn't try to over power you with his insight on the wines as he speaks to you just like the everyday person such as myself that enjoys wines and knows a tad bit (as in I'm not a sommelier but I know enough to be dangerous! ha ha). As I mentioned I liked all the wines that I tried but my two favorites, which I purchased, were the 2015 Gewürztraminer (Queen Bee) and the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon (Osprey). Talk about delicious! It's been almost a year since I visited this property, so I'm writing it a bit from memory. First and foremost, the grounds themselves are exquisite and right next to Dry Creek river which, as you guessed, was not exactly deluging that summer day. That did little to dissuade our enamor with the property, which provided an absolutely stunning setting to enjoy our two glasses of rosé by the "water." The wines themselves were very fine, but for better or worse probably not the most memorable. A tasting is more than just the wine though and context can fuel a great experience, which if you're looking for one this place will deliver in spades. First time visiting Truett Hurst winery in Sonoma County and it was a great experience. Truett Hurst, a holistic vineyard and farm located in the heart of Healdsburg's Dry Creek Valley. Truett is adjacent with the YML winery. It is an extremely pleasant experience with a friendly staff, large parking area, and friendly livestock. They currently aren't doing tastings, because of COVID-19. Once you arrive on property, you're greeted by a staffer in the parking lot. Wine can be purchased by the glass or bottle, which can be enjoyed on the outside patio, near the creek, or near the livestock. A nice looking property, yes. However, the staff was not particularly welcoming in our experience. The vibe was a little "off." I don't want to leave a "negative" review, but I can't rave about our visit either. Based on my San Diego friend's and my online research about wine tasting with a fairly large group, this seemed like the perfect place to have an outdoor picnic lunch. And we liked that we could bring our own food. This was the second winery we visited on a Sunday in early January when we were lucky enough to have sunny weather. We were a group of 10--nine women and one man--who arrived in a Platypus tour vehicle. I am a local who has worked in wine hospitality but everyone else in my group had traveled various distances from out of the area for THIS--Truett Hurst-- as part of our day of wine tasting. Over lengthy texts, my San Diego friend and I carefully planned the day and in retrospect I feel like it was a mistake to book an at-table tasting with lunch at this winery. To be fair, in hindsight, maybe that's a mistake at any winery...perhaps when in Wine Country, it's best to simply have glass or bottle service with a picnic lunch at whatever winery--with wine that you know and like--rather than trying to evaluate sips of unfamiliar wines with your lunch. In the end, it seems as though this winery was happy to sell a pre-booked experience and unhappy to deliver it once we arrived. The pours were stingy and while our server (older white guy) wasn't blatantly rude, he was somewhat standoffish. Perhaps he (wrongly) assumed we wouldn't buy any bottles let alone join their club so he didn't feel like making the cordial sales effort that is expected in a tasting experience? Again, to be fair, we had just come from an elevated cellar experience at Dry Creek Vineyards where two people in the group DID become members and my friend and I and others in the group did purchase some bottles to go. People in this group WERE interested in having wines to take home with them--if they could get a proper taste of said wines. However, the service here left a "bad taste" with what little I tasted of their wine and slightly put a damper on our fun day. I'm glad it wasn't anyone's birthday or other special occasion we were trying to celebrate. Still, at least one woman in our group made one TH bottle purchase. We weren't "drunk" or necessarily even "buzzed" from our previous tasting, however by the time we got to TH for our picnic tasting, we were quite peckish and once seated at the long table for 10, our attention was divided between getting the food on the table and hearing about the first wine being poured. Maybe our server was holding the fact that we had just come from another tasting against us, which might account for the skimpy, passive aggressive pours. If they were going to seemingly have a problem with us being there, why were they so happy to charge my friend's credit card and make the reservation? I mean, come on...Yes, people typically visit more than one winery in a day but one previous wine tasting does not an inebriated group make. We were enjoying ourselves, or at least trying to, as wine tasting is supposed to be an enjoyable event, not a somber one. If wine hosts find an upbeat and cheerful but hungry group a nuisance, why allow picnics with tastings or groups of 10? No, we weren't silent robots but we weren't overly loud and/or disrespectful of the property either. As the rest of my group was getting back to our minibus in the parking lot, my friend went into the tasting room to talk to a woman claiming to be the owner about how she didn't get her last pour. During our tasting, my friend had gotten up from the table to look around the beautiful grounds a little, but even so, other wine hosts at other wineries will still give your (in this case prepaid) pour. TH should keep in mind that winery guests don't see winery grounds every day like winery staff does so of course they will likely want to look around at least a little. The woman my friend talked to in the tasting room was unapologetic and dismissive to my friend who had paid hundreds of dollars for our group experience and told her she could "leave now." That was unfortunate, seemed unfair and made my friend and I wish TH hadn't even taken our reservation. The owner's attitude certainly lowered the morale of a person on vacation trying to do something enjoyable with friends and family, which is never the goal when you're out wine tasting. The man who served us could have sold more wine to our group had he decided we were worth the effort and thus been less aloof. Maybe with a smaller group that hadn't just been to another winery and also wasn't having a picnic lunch, our experience at TH would have been more positive. To be fair... read more

We joined the Truett-Hurst wine club a few months back. We were told about a little picnic area next to the creek. Today we decided to take our son and his family to Truett-Hurst for a little family picnic. We called ahead a couple of days to reserve the red Adirondack chairs near the creek. We brought a small charcuterie and purchased a couple of bottles of Zinfandel to enjoy in the setting. The sun was high in the sky, and the air was warm without being hot. The setting was beautiful. All in all, we had a great experience. Truett-Hurst does a fabulous Zinfandel. You cannot go wrong with ordering a bottle of 2019 Showdown Zinfandel. It has fewer tannins, but sweet berry flavors. I came here in a group of 6 to go wine tasting and use the reserved picnic area. We really enjoyed our stay. We probably didn't need to book both places. My favorite part was the picnic area but Im happy I got to try all of the wines. And since it was national Rose day we got a complimentary Rose tasting as well - this one ended up being my favorite. When you come, be sure to bring your own food. They do have a decent selection of charcuterie stuff but I think at least bringing a pizza or sandwiches would help you especially since you are drinking. We decided to buy oysters at Bodega Bay Oyster co and bring them to shuck with along with some sandwiches. We also bought charcuterie to share. I really loved the property. Cute lil goats to pet and feed, a creek that members get to sit by and wine taste or picnic, a beautiful farm and landscaping to enjoy. By far one of my places in the county. The grounds are absolutely beautiful. My bridal shower was hosted here and it did not disappoint!! The staff had great knowledge about the wine, they were friendly, and the location is perfectly situated next to the creek. The space also has chickens, a garden, goats, and sheep. The ground are beautiful, and they have Cowgirl creamery cheese (I wish they stocked Red Hawk - my FAV), but we got a bottle of rose, a wheel of Mt Tam cheese and some crackers and sat outside. The grounds are beautiful, but it was so hot it was a little difficult to enjoy them - they should set up a few misters outside. We go here every time we make the trip to wine country in northern CA from NC. There are amazing Nigerian Dwarf Goats, a beautiful creek with chairs so sit in, nice gardens, and a small but bright and airy tasting room. They encourage you to make an experience of your tasting and explore their grounds which is really cool. We went recently and did a tasting with Josh. He is amazing and made us feel right at home. Great wines, friendly service. We had a group of 5 adults and 4 teenagers. The winery was very accommodating and seated us at one table and the teens at a table next to us. Patio area was pretty and had a musician playing and singing. We were also able to bring our two dogs on lead. I would have given 5 stars but the service was a little slow (perhaps they wanted to give us time to enjoy our wine?). Overall a great experience, looking forward to coming back. read more
