Perhaps that's why the other lady on Yelp was unhappy. Instead, Dr. Attaman offers alternative *treatment*. I've had nerve blocks, spinal cord injections, cranial sacral work, and shockwave therapy on an injured elbow. I also received excellent consulting on an MRI for a collapsing cervical disk that another had doctor misdiagnosed. If Dr. Attaman hadn't reviewed it and urged me to schedule surgery (with a different doctor) urgently, I might have lost function in my bowel and legs. I have been living with chronic pain for many years. The pain is a result of a combination of…read moremultiple little injuries and basic body deterioration. I was diagnosed with multiple herniated discs and arthritis, which was pinching some nerves near C6. The pain was excruciating and debilitating. I had surgery finally to fuse two levels of my cervical spine, C5-6, and C6-7. Dr. Jayashree Srinivasan was recommended to me by a colleague, who is one of Seattle's most prominent neurosurgeons. I had consulted with quite a few other physicians, and none of them were able to diagnose the root cause of my pain. Because she was a neurosurgeon, her eyes were trained to see these types of pinched nerves, where other doctors would miss it. After the surgery, my pain had subsided drastically. I was finally able to move my right arm without the zinging sensation, and the strength started to return as well. However these surgeries are fairly dramatic, and a lot of residual damage had been done. I am left with pain that may be with me for some time. It is like the roommate that never pays the rent, makes messes everywhere, and is constantly yelling in your ear. It is quite difficult to go about your day when this is occurring. I am able to take some muscle relaxers (methocarbamol), medication for the nerve pain (lyrica), and anti-inflammatory medication (sulindac). This combination is great for reducing the inflammation and healing the nerves. I also continue to do physical therapy and massage to calm the muscles. However, none of these therapies are able to do a significant job at reducing my pain level. The pain killers (oxycodone) are the most effective at actually reducing my pain level. I am very careful to monitor my dosage in accordance with her guidance.  I appreciate that she is very conscientious about only prescribing me the least amount possible. I am grateful that she encourages me to pursue other therapies, like massage, acupuncture, physical therapy and pain injections to cover as much ground as possible. Nonetheless, they are called pain killers for a reason, they are really good at doing the job of killing the pain. She helps me be aware of the connotations of taking these medications, meaning people could likely steal them from me, so she continues to educate me on the proper care of my medications, like keeping them in a secure location so they won't be stolen. She also ensures that I am aware that it is a serious medication, meaning that I should only be taking them in careful consideration of the implications and ramifications of taking these types of pain killers.  I also appreciate how much she cares about me as a person.  She is so caring and compassionate, and I know that she is being my advocate and helping me be a great person that can contribute positively to the community. I am an Enterprise Data Architect and need to have my full cognitive abilities in order to do my job. I can honestly say that without the care that she gives me, I would likely lose my job, but instead, I am thriving!

Her other reviews on Google are all 5-star so I thought maybe that was just a weird circumstance and proceeded to work with her. In the end, I think "unsafe", "rude", and "dismissive" are all very accurate. The first 2 months with her were fine, but yesterday she said something wholly unprofessional that I think is worth mentioning publicly. For context, we increased the dosage of my medication in July and agreed that we would recheck in September, which we did. My understanding from what she said in July was that the follow-up would be to check if the increased dosage was working. My bloodwork came back in the normal range; my understanding is that if you do blood tests while on medication, if the tests come back normal (not high or low), it means the dosage is working. She said I should lower the dosage. When I said I was confused and asked for further explanation, she just said "Your thyroid is working." When I again repeated why I didn't understand, she responded that I should take endocrinology classes, boasted about her medical licenses, and said "To help you understand, you will need to have knowledge and terminology with clinical experience in both for me to explain." Note that in both of my emails I said over and over I wasn't opposed to following her advice, I just wanted to understand her train of thought. No matter how you slice it, that is a wholly unprofessional answer, to put it generously. A good doctor will fully understand a concept well enough that they can assess a level that their client can understand and explain it to them without just regurgitating what was learned in med school. Patients should not need to get a medical degree or take classes themselves, they should trust that you will guide them with compassion and explain what you are asking them to do with their bodies.
