My husband and I are blessed to be patients of Dr.Robert Bowers at Bellevue Pain and Wellness in Bellevue, Washington. There are multiple treatment modalities offered at his practice to manage pain. We appreciate that his office has fluoroscopy available to facilitate minimally invasive procedures that would otherwise require a separate surgical facility. I am actually writing on my experience in 2024 with Dr. Bowers, and his lovely team at the time (Derek and Brittany). It's nice when a provider balances efficiency with compassion, and I think Bellevue Pain and Wellness did just that. Shout out to Derek because he is awesome!! I received IV Ketamine infusions and Spravato for treatment resistant depression. Both were incredibly helpful. I am returning to Bellevue Pain and Wellness in 2026 for the same condition, and look forward to the experience. The location and atmosphere are pleasant and they recently did construction to add more rooms. Sometimes it's the little things, like lollipops at the front desk or a kind greeting with a smile, that makes the experience so much better. I finally left. Dr Bowers just did not like me. I tried to complain internally but it did not matter. My last visit he pounded the needle across my eyebrows. He has never done that, it hurt and caused some droopy eyelids. I am now at a different place. I can call Email walk in and they help. They have a receptionist, Botox schedulers. Procedure ones, PAs everything. Do your research please. They have the potential to be great. Egos need to be set aside and bring in an office manager. Make sure they're not related. Just follow up with your patients concerns. I'm very happy now. I have chronic pain and need empathy. The only reason I ended up with Dr Bowers is by circumstance and referral. I'm at my original Clinic because they now do Botox. They charge $200 after insurance Dr Bowers $600. They are all very pleasant. To be fair. Dr Bowers staff are nice and friendly even the doctor was. read more

Where is Dr. Bowers? I visited twice and I still haven't seen him. I've seen two associates. The first Marshall Kim, ARNP-BC, was Good. Lots of excellent questions about my background and condition, good explanation of processes and procedures, very personable. The second guy by the name of Joseph Castro, PA-C, was a complete asshole, cold, impersonal, lacking in empathy, lack of accountability. This dude should be working on a farm somewhere dealing with horses and cows, not human beings. Not happy with this visit at all, I left feeling like I should take a shower after the visit. Castro, I'm not pill hopping, not trying to get multiple pain scripts but that's exactly how you made me feel. Felt like I was on trial. I'm a USAF Veteran, I've been going to the VA for 30 years. I'm here because I have a severe pain problem, i live at a 7-8 pain level daily on a scale of 1-10. I suffer from herniated discs, spinal stenosis and I'm having disk fusion surgery in May. It's all in my chart right, this guy was unable to read the chart or didn't bother to look until he sat down. A prescription I had at the VA he literally accused me of knowing I should't have and that they are the only ones who can prescribe opiates for me. Dah, isn't it your job to tell me that, make it clear. He then got up, turned and walked away. Oh my God Dr. Bowers, please show your face. Don't leave it to Joseph Castro to represent your business. He's the worst. For transparency sake, this place was highly recommended by a friend, her experience with Dr. Bowers was exceptional. However, this is my truth. read more

I made an apt with Dr. Bowers to discuss my MRI and advise for a procedure. Without informing me my apt was changed to Joseph Castro PA. I sent a message I was OK seeing the PA as long as I also got to see Dr Bowers. I never heard back after that message was sent. I then signed on to the virtual apt with Mr. Castro, assuming I would also be seeing Dr. Bowers. I asked the PA if I would also be seeing Dr. Bowers. I was informed Dr. Bowers was out of town. I then, immediately told Joseph Castro that the apt was over. It lasted perhaps 2 min. I have now discovered Joseph Castro has billed my insurance for a moderate level return visit (30-39 min). Although my out of pocket would be minimal, it is fraud to bill in this manner. I just called the office and it took about 30 min for the girl to answer (every time I have called it is a long wait). She replied that insurance is paying the bill, so why did it matter to me. It matters because it is not ethical. She refused to listen and claimed that Mr. Castro wrote a note about all the recommendations he gave me (there was NEVER this discussion). read more

Place is a joke. I waited almost 2 hours to be seen. The entire time the whole waiting room could audibly hear the woman being treated in the other room sobbing and expressing in how much pain she was while the doctor proceeded with their impersonal and cold approach to care. I had diagnostic testing done to get pre-auth for the actual procedure. Procedure got denied from insurance because they never sent the proper documentation despite me calling multiple times asking them to resend and them promising they would. They want me to pay a $1000 bill for "practice injections" that never resulted in me getting the authorization needed to actually get the procedure due to their front desk negligence. I've also had these practice shots and actual procedure done before at another clinic - which was clean, sterilized and properly set up for this kind of procedure vs them basically having me sit on an office chair in a weird and non-sterile appearing room and sticking things into my spine. A couple of things to be said. The office experience. I find the Lady behind the desk to have a very sharp tone and a matter of fact demeanor with little to no empathy. This was responding to my questions about billing concerns. Also, it is very difficult to speak to someone in the office. Either sit on hold for 15 minutes plus, or leave a message only to wait a day or two for a response back. However, when I have been able to get through, both Max and Derek have empathetic and positive tone. Also, they both work towards providing a solution to my concerns. My visits with the doctors have been great. Dr. Kim continues to provide me with comforting, reassuring visits. read more

I almost don't want to give a great review because then it will be harder for me to get in when I need to, however, this is a great company! I'm new to the area, but they got me in pretty much right away. The PAs that I saw were understanding and compassionate and gave me what I needed to be comfortable until I could get in to see the doctor. If only I could give ZERO or even negative stars. This office, this 'doctor' refused service to my wife who is experiencing tremendous back pain and other neuro issues, partly as a result of a spinal fusion many years ago. Time has affected the previous fusion and we were looking to Dr. Bowers for some ideas on alternatives to surgery to help her. Over a year ago we had an appointment that was eventually canceled (with appropriate notice). We live in Blaine and my wife felt the 2+hour drive just wasn't possible at that time. Things have only gotten worse so we scheduled another appointment for today. Last week the appointment was confirmed by Dr. Bowers office but with the stipulation that we would meet with a PA rather than Dr. Bowers. Not understanding what a PA can offer, and wanting to make the most of our long trip, we asked if we could possibly speak with Dr. Bowers instead. Without our approval or even acknowledgement, office staff changed our appointment to Thursday. When we indicated we couldn't do a Thursday appointment, hadn't asked that change so please retain the Monday appointment, "Cindy" treated this as a cancellation of the Thursday appointment and let us know their office would not be rescheduling us - ever. We attempted to explain, via email, what we were trying to determine and that we had not asked to move the Monday appointment nor canceled our appointment. Her response was "there's nothing I can do. We won't see you." Thinking there must be something else behind this approach, my wife called to speak with Cindy directly - only to discover they had blocked her cell number. We called again, using my phone and had a chance to speak with Cindy. In the middle of our conversation, after asking her why she had changed our Monday appointment to Thursday with out our direction to do so, we were put On Hold.......forever. Cindy never came back on the line. Because we had already committed to Monday, and had coordinated other service appointments for today, wew went to the office to see if explaining face-to-face could resolve the issue. Our only goal was to get some attention to my wife's condition. SHe needed their help. Once again, Cindy said "there's nothing I can do." She then messaged the doctor and responded with "he's not going to see you." When I asked "Today?" She said 'no, ever." We continued to try to explain that we hadn't asked for an appointment change, had not canceled multiple appointments and would be happy to reschedule to a different day, if we could just get in. Cindy said she would go and talk to Dr. Bowers and see if he would change his mind. Never came back.................. After about 15 minutes a nice young man came out an reiterated that Dr. Bowers wouldn't see her this day or any day. They refused us service. It remains a mystery why this clinic took this approach to a woman only looking for some help. Our communications with everyone in the office remained polite and factual---- no yelling, no swearing, just confusion as to why we were being treated so poorly after asking one question. I thought doctor's were supposed to be driven by helping people. Not sure what this guy is trying to accomplish. Stay away. read more

I'd been at another clinic for 2 years where I carefully followed all protocol. Everything had gone well until Dec, 2022. At that point, that provider decided to begin making changes to my treatment which I could see were going to lead to less functioning rather than my continued good functioning. Once that became clear, I immediately began looking for another provider. I'm eternally grateful to have discovered Bellevue Pain and Wellness. Dr Bowers is a compassionate knowledgeable provider, and a breath of fresh air in his field. He has a deep knowledge of the science of his work, dispelling some myths I'd been told by my previous provider, which had been concerning. Dr Bowers offers a load of treatments to help those of us who live w/chronic pain. I've now had 2 appointments w/Dr Bowers and I was truly treated as a PERSON living w/pain who has goals, aspirations, dreams and loved ones who are depending on them. I wasn't treated as a 'Pain Patient.' Dr Bowers is happy to help me w/my continued goals - what a gift! Dr Bowers is a clear direct communicator who is obviously interested in his patients' lives. We discovered we have gardening as a common interest, and I enjoyed our discussion around that. I'm looking forward to working w/him and his team w/our plan of action for my lumbar issues/pain. I drive quite a way to his clinic, and it's 1000% worth it. After my first visit, he walked me out to the front desk. When he saw the receptionist was on the phone and had another patient waiting, he quickly scheduled my next appointment himself and offered me a lollipop on my way out! He then thought for me to take a 2nd lollipop for my partner who I'd mentioned briefly during our appointment. When was the last time you saw a Medical Director do THIS?!! He's a very down to earth person who clearly enjoys people and WANTS to be an integral part of their good function and overall health. Both Marshall and Dr. Bowers are compassionate and understanding about the dynamics of living with chronic pain. My questions are always thoroughly answered, and I am always treated with respect and dignity. Even though I am moving soon, I will be able to continue seeing Marshall thanks to teleconferencing and labwork at a lab near me. If I do need to come in on occasion, I am not so far away that it can't be arranged. I am glad that I don't have to switch Drs and start the whole process over again! read more

Absolute waste of time. They do not operate on the level of any other injury doctor. Wasted a huge amount of my time commuting all the way to their office from Monroe after waiting a month. They turned me away because unlike any other injury doctor it takes "days" to charge to personal injury protection insurance... what a joke. My other doctor that I was seeing would take my credit card info, he would see me and if there was ever an issue with the PIP he would charge my credit card. I've been receiving Spravato treatment (esketamine for depression) from Dr. Bowers for about six months now and I'm not depressed for the first time in... well, I'm not sure I've ever actually been *this* not depressed. Yay! The staff at BPW is friendly and capable, and they really care about making sure patients are comfortable. Dr. Bowers has taken his own time to speak to my insurance company and iron out hiccups when they come up. I've never had a doctor do that before and it kind of blew me away honestly. I was having a lot of pain after a procedure and he was visibly annoyed that I came to his office since he didn't think anything was wrong. He really truly wants to help you achieve your treatment goals and have the best quality of life you can have while minimizing side effects and downsides. About a year ago my prior pain mgmt. Dr. stopped taking my insurance and left me stranded. I made an apt. with Bellevue Pain and Wellness and saw Marshall Kim who was able to take over my care. When I stated with Dr Bowers and things were great. However, after they got a new practitioner things seems to get worse and worse. Dr Bowers is great and his first assistant, Kenya, was great as well. However, while the doctor count increased the level of service given by the nurses drastically descreased. read more

I've had upper back and neck problems for ~15 years now. I have been to so many different doctors, physical therapists, chiropractors, acupuncturists and the list goes on. Dr. Bowers was the first that I've gone to that treats me like a human being. He believes me when I talk, listens, and has options and feedback. He talks honestly and sets the right expectations. Before I went to him I spent most of my weekends on the couch, I couldn't cook dinner more than once a week... it was almost all I could handle just to get through a work week. My daughter suffered because I couldn't take her places like other moms. Now, I still have bad days but overall I am so much better. I cook 5 days a week. I spend weekends outside or even cleaning my house. I can vacuum again!! Everyone in the office is nice and easy to work with. I actually look forward to going to my appointments.
