I used Sarah's Tailors to hem a pair of dress pants and the alteration was decent. Then I bought a new blazer, a nice, all-wool, expensive jacket, and took it in to ask her to shorten my sleeves. The jacket had beautiful hand stitching, including faux hand-stitched buttonholes on the sleeves. She told me she could only shorten my sleeves a certain amount (about a quarter to a half inch) because of the buttons (i.e. to leave enough material between the 3 buttons and the hem of the sleeves). I agreed, as this meant the sleeves would be shortened without disturbing the buttons or the hand stitching. Well, when I picked the jacket up, she had re-set the buttons, removed ALL of the hand stitching AND left picks in the fabric all along the area around the buttons from removing the stitching!! She could have shortened the sleeves more if I had known, or wanted her to, take it all apart and move the buttons. I was extremely disappointed, furious, actually, because all she would have had to do was call me and ask me about removing the stitching. One of the sleeve's row of buttons are not even straight in a row, they are crooked. All of this occurred after spending nearly $50 for the alteration to an already-expensive jacket. When I spoke to her about it, she said 'I made a mistake'. Then she went to get her husband from the back of the store and we went through the situation again. He told me I HAD MADE A MISTAKE by not 'asking her about the buttons'!! This was MY FAULT, according to him, as well as hers!!! He offered to 'try to hand stitch' the threading that was removed but I was too concerned about the jacket looking even worse and then needing to remove stitching in the same spots that already had damaged, picked fabric. They snippily took a $50 bill out of the register and handed it to me and said "Keep the change!" If you have nice clothes, if you want to be treated with respect, do NOT go to this tailor. read more

Way overpriced. She charged me $90 to hem a dress (granted, in a few days). the dress itself only costs $99 -- it ended up still being too long in the front. My friend got hers done at another alteration store and she was only charged $50. Complete rip off read more

I took 5 Pair of pants, 3 of which were dress slacks, and several other items because I lost weight. This is THE WORST ALTERATIONS I have ever seen . I tried several of the pieces on while I was there and showed her my frustrations and she said well that is all I can do. I wish she would have told me she could not so it before she butchered my clothes i don't think they can be fixed at this point because of how she did it. They do not lay flat in the back. Sarah's Tailors is the place to go for all of your tailoring needs in Grapevine. Sure you "could" shorten those sleeves on that nice jacket you own. You lost weight but can't bear to give up your favorite jeans and the last time you picked up a needle and thread was when Jon Stewart was on the Daily Show. Heck now that you mention it I don't even remember picking up a needle and thread in the past decade except at those nice hotels when they give you a mending kit. The staff here are very courteous and they really know what they are doing. The draw back here is that it is cash only. This is not a showstopper at all just a friendly FYI. As for time of your garment coming back to altered expect about a week or less. If you are like me and you need to cut a few inches off of new pants, or want the sleeves of your new suit to look good then come here. read more

Rude and completely dismissive. I have been in there a handful of times (more times than needed) to get a simple alteration on pants. Each time, she completely overlooks me to help other customers, even if someone comes in behind me. Went in there tonight to pick up a pair of pants she has tried to alter five times because of her poor work and a guy literally walked in behind me and she stopped helping me to talk to him. No. That is not how you do business. And on top of that, she laughed and dismissed me when I called her out. She is also rude when you don't have your ticket. And the pants she has worked on five times still look bad. If you can't do the work, then you need to offer a refund. I will be contacting the BBB. read more

I brought in a dress for my son's wedding to be hemmed (25 days prior to wedding) .... she told me since it was double layered it would be $79 to hem. Also wouldn't be ready until 4 days before the wedding. I cancelled my order and went to ACE alterations in Ft. Worth and he told me the under layer didn't need to be hemmed at all. Only the top layer needed to be hemmed and he charged me $38 plus tax and it would be ready in less than a week. I will let anyone reading this make their own decision after reading the truth about what I posted. read more

Terrible service. I took my dress that I was going to wear at a wedding in paris. I said I would travel on the 4th july! Couldn't pick up on sat. I was not told it was going to close from Mon to wed for holiday, they did not phone or text me asking to pick it up earlier because it was going to close!!! I need to buy a new one! Exceptional and quick service! I had procrastinated taking a dress that I was having pictures made in for alterations. However, Sarah's Tailor was able to alter my dress in a week's time, which was much faster than I expected. Went to this tailor shop as had previously brought clothes here when owned by Sara. New owner and quality of work is now awful. Loose buttons, crooked seams, outside seam work on underslip vs inside seam. New owner said they were related to Sara; but I have my doubts. For simple jeans and or simple cuff work, this place will suffice anything else that requires attention to detail or actual tailoring, go elsewhere. read more

I am an unpaid training student for a major airline and needed two dresses tailored. with no car and limited knowledge on tailoring pieces, I went to Sarah's tailors and asked to get my two dresses hemmed and waist taken in one inch. i was told that to hem the dress was going to be $60 EACH. So $116 + tax for two dresses to be hemmed and waist taken in. upon researching, I found many other seamstress' with much lower prices ($12 for hemming and $15 for waist) I came in on a Thursday and was told the dresses would be ready the following Thursday. Well, I called this morning at 9:51AM on a MON. asking if my pieces were ready; if they were not ready I wanted to pick them up so I can get this service done at a more cost efficient place since the dresses themselves didn't even cost $60 each. i was told on the phone by the owner that the pieces weren't ready and that I could pick them up. So I ubered to the tailor from my training center and was yelled at for 10 minutes because "I never called" upon showing the owner proof of the outgoing call, I was told that calling today was "too late" when I tried to calmly explain that is not what she told me on the phone, she proceeded to speak over me. i ended up giving her $65 for the two pieces. i am leaving this review so that other trainees are aware that $30 to hem a uniform is not the norm. i feel as though I was taken advantage of. read more

If I could give less than a 1 rating I would- Took my daughters wedding dress in to be hemmed, cap sleeves put on, bustled, and a comb sewn on a veil. This was months early as my daughter lives in Austin- I personally called them 3 times to check on the status of the work and asked twice that they keep ALL material they cut off.I was told they don't throw material away, no problem it would be in the bag with the dress. I paid in full, $425.00 CASH the day we dropped the dress off!!! We went to pick it up on Saturday the 14th- We were told All of the extra material had been THROWN AWAY. No straps were made (which we now can't match or have someone else make since we have no material). the BUSTLE consisted of 1 small eye hook sewn on the middle of the back of the dress- What??? The veil was CUT while we were there, and not sewn at all. There was a rip in the veil and the way they fixed it was they GLUED IT!!!! To make it even worse she told me I owed her $325.00, that I hadn't paid!!!! Unbelievable!!! We got most of our money back but now my daughter will have no straps for her dress and we have to go to another tailor to get the dress bustled like it should have been in the first place. Not a great experience. Do not go here if you want work done professionally and don't want to be told you haven't paid!!!! read more

I bought a vintage dress in Austin - a very simple, shift-type thing - but it was in horrible condition and way too big. The fabric was gorgeous, though, and I figured I could get it repaired and fitted easily enough. I chose Sarah's because I read a few good reviews online. And I'm so glad I did! They fixed it so that it fit perfectly, and they repaired all the rips and tears. And guess how much they wanted to charge! TWENTY ONE DOLLARS! I told them that was ridiculous, they had basically resewn the entire thing! I paid the $21 and tipped another $24. It was well worth it. I wore that dress to a wedding recently. I bought a leather jacket but needed the arm length shorter and needed to add snaps on the cuff closer in. They deconstructed for arms and procured snaps that went great with the other snaps on wrist. Great job. Highly recommend. I had a finely-knit sweater repaired here. It had a golfball-sized hole in the elbow and the "patch" they used to hide it was seamless and close to/nearly undetectable. (It's hard to explain, but they sewed the patch in the same direction of the sweater's knitting.) read more

There is nothing that Sarah's Tailor cannot do! We brought her footed summer pj's for our granddaughter and she was able to shorten the arms and legs and still keep the zipper working. I have taken her so many different kinds of articles of clothing over decades and the result is always perfect and beautiful. She does not rush her work so you cannot be in a hurry, although once I took her a boy's jacket to be altered for a religious ceremony and she turned it out very quickly and did not even charge me because it was for the boy's church service! Fantastic!! They seriously came through for me on my suit which I needed done asap before flying out to Chicago. My suit is perfect and they were great about my tight timing to get it done. I absolutely recommend this place to everyone, especially if you're in a bind and need something asap.
