Decided to stop by here on our November vacation in Sarasota. The place is pretty big and the owner was cordial. Besides the place being a bit cluttered, it was still cool to have a look around. They had a lot of items you might need for your property, including lawn decorations. I would recommend you stop by and take a look. read more

Love, love, love this place! I could spend hours here! The first time I visited SAS was probably close to 15 years ago and it's still just as awesome today. Of course some items are higher priced than some people may imagine but this isn't really comparable to a thrift store or goodwill - these are items you will likely NEVER see or find again! Still, some of these items are priced at less than half of what a new mass-produced one would cost and there is of course zero sentimental meaning and far less uniqueness that route. (I'm looking at you, red door with stained glass that I've been thinking about since leaving ) This is *the* place to go if you're looking for "that" piece you need to fill a space or even if you're missing a piece from something old and antique! They have millions of old doorknobs, old stained glass windows, lighting fixtures (both interior and exterior), tons of random lumber (need a replacement piece for your original hardwood floors? I bet you'll find something there!) and the list goes on! Do yourself a favor and stop by. 4.5 stars rounded up! This is a quality salvage business since it first opened in 2003. Its owner opened the company "w/ an environmental mission." He & his employees perform the actual salvage work. There's a small parking lot, but street parking is available. The warehouse is large and clean. The two outside merchandise areas, coupled w/ the actual warehouse, boasts 10,000 sq feet. (The interior alone nets 7,500 to 8,000 sq feet). This company serves the "D.I.Y" customer. The acronym stands for "Do It Yourself" customer. Hours are 9:00 PM to 5 PM six days weekly-- closed on Sunday. The two staffers on site were very friendly. (They even provided us w/ information on other salvage businesses we might like.) We had come here in search of mid- century bath fixtures, & we lucked out. The prices on the ones we found were very reasonable. However, many items ran quite high, and many items had no price listed, which are two reasons we feel this is not currently a 5-star business. I, especially, am not a fan of running repeatedly to the checkout counter to ask how much an item costs. There were two items I was interested in, but neither was priced (so they weren't purchased). I posted so many photos of this establishment to showcase what was offered on our visit-- light fixtures; bulbs & shades; chandeliers; standard & pane windows; stained glass; vintage Coca-Cola dispensers; drawer & cabinet hardware; drawer knobs & handles; MANY large collectible letters (see pics); tubs, sinks, & bathroom fixtures; tools; glass & paneled doors; flooring; wood; reclaimed lumber; fence posts; iron; lattice work; custom iron & wood furniture along w/ patio furniture & garden art; signage; bar wood; faucets; vintage beer cans & license plates; fountains & sculptures; fifty Annie Sloan Chalk Paints & accessories; & just about EVERYTHING you'd expect to find at a quality salvage business. This store is an absolute treasure. I'm here visiting from California we had seen them at the Farmers Market and decided to stop in. We found so many cool, exciting have to have things! Settled on a glass vase melted on to drift wood. Very unique with so many uses. We each bought one. Currently one has a bouquet of red carnations , very stunning centerpiece on the dining table. Walked around the entire store every nook and cranny has wonderful finds! For anyone into vintage items and loves the hunt this is the perfect place. So many treasures to choose from. It's refreshing to know that we now live in the day and age where re-purposing seems to be more popular than buying the cheap throw away imported junk that's been the trend over the last few decades. I've visited a number of these "salvage" stores in the last few years and all of them have been quite interesting to dig through and for the most part have been semi-organized and this one is no exception. The massive inventory here is filled with treasure for those that seek the nostalgic and don't mind spending a few hours picking thought the thousands of pieces preserved here, most of these items would have long ago been buried in some land-filled and lost forever even though a lot of the pieces were built to last and be enjoyed forever. Even though the owners have tried to present this colossal collection of dated salvage architectural treasure in a manner that make its somewhat manageable to view you'll still have to dig to find those unique pieces that you seek so dress in something comfortable and bring your imagination and let the fun begin. I thought the prices were reasonable for what it is although some may feel it's overpriced junk and I somewhat respect those opinions but thinking you'll find this kind of stuff in this quantity at a flea market or thrift store is ridiculous. SAS is SO much more than salvage. So, if you're a hunter of cool stuff like I am, you've been to some junky salvage places. Rows of old toilets in the grass and a dusty building filled with crap you can't identify. SAS is NONE of those things (ok, it does have some stuff you can't identify, but it's not crap). SAS has two outdoor sections, filled with statues and pretty much anything that won't get ruined from being outside. I honestly cannot begin to describe the variety of interesting things they have, outside or inside. Inside, they have standard stuff you would pull out of a cool house (hence, the salvage). Doors, windows, knobs, stained glass, finial posts, shutters, gates, grates, tiles, hardware...AND they have a plum ton of antique things, vintage things and vintage inspired things. While you are in there, DO not forget to look UP! They have light fixtures that will blow your mind. If you need or want some cool piece, start here for sure. Come for a few hours of browsing. It can be hotter than hades in there, but they have fans placed around that help a bit. Truly one of my favorite places to visit, regardless of the temperature. read more

This place is slightly different from the other salvage store right around the corner. This one had more actual architectural pieces such as giant sections of reclaimed wood or mantles or other unique building materials. They also have a huge amount of light fixtures to browse through and were having a very good sale at the time I went. For example, they had a gorgeous, giant crystal chandelier on sale for about $500 which was a very good price for the size of the chandelier. They also have an insane amount of industrial letters and funky yard Decor all piled up in the back. As we remodel homes and sometimes flip them I was on the hunt for a few sturdy doors. I had in mind to hang them barn door style and wanted specifically 9 panel. I am very happy with what I found and pricing wasn't too bad either. Since this one was for a bathroom I frosted the glass. Very cool place to find the unusual. We found a 1940's roulette wheel from a Las Vegas Hotel. A lot of wood trim and slabs. Stained glass windows, various metal trim decor. Items change daily of course. I only gave a 4 star due to lake of AC throughout the inside. It was so hot we had to leave. It also seemed to be priced on the high side compared to anything in Texas or Florida that I've seen. The gentleman that is running the place was very nice and helpful. We finally stumbled upon this place a few months ago. Denmy was the first person we met, and was extremely helpful! In case you haven't been here or have been him yet- Denmy is a slightly eccentric, brilliant, kind, creative and friendly young man! We told him all about some of our "new house" projects and of the ones we had been dreaming of (or rather pinning on our pinterest); and he was able to show us the materials and brainstorm how to do some of these projects. He has plenty the knowledge and experience in this sort of thing. Our first big investment, while strictly sticking to our budget was reclaimed tongue and groove boards- mixes of cedar, oak, and pine. One of the guys (forgot his name!oops) kindly loaded up our truck. We took the boards home, white washed them and used them as the new ceiling in our lanai-turned family room (replaced the outdated drop ceiling). The boards have so much character and history which we have absolutely fallen in love with. This room is now our favorite room in the house and we really do love how this new ceiling brought in so much character. We are extremely happy with the outcome, and our experience; we are excited about and looking forward to our next project with Sarasota Architectural Salvage! So, whether you are looking to do your own project or just looking for some ideas, or some inspiration- or even looking for an adventure; definitely be sure to stop in here (the place looks different every time we go) and see what can find! read more

Sarasota Architectural Salvage is not what it use to be. I recently visited the store after 8 years because I had to move to the east coast of Florida because of employment. Nonetheless I can tell you that the selection and quality of half of its pieces are in poor shape and are also way over priced. Most of the items are either hard to get to or they are deteriorating due to the open air elements. There's a couple sections of the store that looks like an episode of Hoarders and the company is wasting great sales floor/space. Because I have been gone so long I wasn't aware of Circus City down the street and let me tell you the place was the total opposite! Circus City had lower prices, greater organization, and better quality products! It was the Pappa Johns of architectural salvage. Sadly I think Sarasota Architectural Salvage days are numbered. That same day I spent my money down the street at the competitors. read more

Amazing! If you want to find some unique knick knacks for the house or outside in your yard, this place has to have something. I basically wanted to buy everything. It's two huge warehouses filled with ornaments you can hang in your house on the wall, in your backyard, in the trees of your front yard, on the side walls of your house, just decorations of every type. You can find little tiny metal stars or old door knobs for a buck to litter along your wall or $1,000 rusted metal doors. Very friendly owner. Some circus stuff thrown randomly in there and records. Lots of character here. Be careful about parking. It's in a sketchy area. read more

An HGTV addict's dream, this place has heaps of raw materials for decorating your home (or business, or yard, or wedding, or...?) Unlike HGTV, SAS is both the source of inspiration AND the place to actually purchase those items that inspire you. Their sister store SAS Mercantile is two block away and is an amazing shop of furniture made from all of those beautiful materials you saw at the warehouse (in case you aren't woodshop savvy). Even if you're not in the market for salvage, I highly recommend this place as a unique stop in your day of playing tourist or tour guide. read more

This place was really cool but wayyyy over priced. You would definitely be able to find a lot of the same things at a flea market or offer up/craigslist (especially the concrete statues and fountains) for a much more reasonable price. Also there were several things in there that weren't exactly antique/used but were newer and made to look that way. However, staff was super friendly and very helpful if you needed anything. I feel like this place would be great for someone who isn't in to bargaining or taking time to find unique pieces at smaller venues, but I am an antique lover and love going out and finding great pieces at a bargain price! read more
