Firstly it smells incredible when you walk in. We were greeted so warmly by the gentleman behind the counter that it felt like we'd just stepped in someone's home. Being it was our first time here, we asked them to surprise us with whatever their best dishes are. There are 3 of us. They brought this amazing platter of rice with a variety of beautifully roasted meats, 2 side salads and the "topping" of carrots, raisins and almonds. Every single bite was delicious. I came here back in October and really enjoyed it. When I came again in Jan 2023, 3 months later, it was completely different! The red meat wasn't cooked well at all. It was hard, could barely cut through it. All being harder than normal, the lamb chops, lamb tikka, beef chapli and beef tikka were disappointing, and the beef tikka was very salty. Joujeh is not really joujeh it's more like tandoori chicken... or drum sticks and wings in an orange paste. It really lacked flavor and wasn't juicy and tender the way it should be. I think they don't use actual Cornish hens which is disappointing. The bolani was a nice portion and price, and the Mantoo were decent as well. I had one that was undercooked as the "wonton wrapper" wasn't cooked through thus tough and stale to eat. The service was below par and it was absolutely empty so I really can't find a reason for them to have messed up this badly. The woman at the counter was talking to another lady in the kitchen area for 1/3 of our meal. Just not a nice experience especially for someone who knows, loves and craves afghani food. read more

With both our children out to parties on a Saturday night, this old couple decided to venture out into little known territory ... and chose this Afghan restaurant. It is spacious and kinda strangely shaped, and we wondered what it was before becoming a restaurant. Their menu reads like a transition from Indian/Pakistani to Middle Eastern - where else would you see falafel on the same page as briyani? Although it is a meat heavy cuisine, this vegetarian found a delicious main course - Ashak, steamed dumplings stuffed with scallion and herbs, and topped with a lentil yogurt sauce. It was surprisingly delightful! And my carnivorous husband was really happy with his choice of Qurma Palow. We will bring our children here in the near future - they will love it too! I asked our waitress if they'd have more vegetarian choices, she named a few other things on the menu - appetizers and side dishes, plus bread - that I could feed on. My friend and I chose Sarinas for this month's ethnic dinner outing. The restaurant is spacious which allows you to have a comfortable conversation while dining. We started with an appetizer course of samosas, potato bolani, and mantoo. The samosas and bolani were crisp and delicious with the accompanying dipping sauce and the spicy sauces that were on the table. (Green and red sauces both add a wonderful piquancy). The mantoo comes with it's own sauce and was a tender and flavorful dumpling dish. We moved on to a main course of the lamb shank with rice, raisins, and carrots and the goat curry. The lamb shank was fall off the bone tender and the rice was redolent with exotic seasoning. The goat curry was a show stopper, tender as can be in a deeply flavorful sauce, all for $9. Many individuals would stop there but since we're gourmands and the food was excellent, we asked to see the menu again. Certainly glad we did, as the beef kofta kabob was one of the best bites of the night. A flavorful beef mix with a zesty spice coating that is grilled to perfection. We also had the lamb curry and it approached the goodness of the goat curry. Figuring that was just about enough savory food for one evening, we moved on to the baklava and firnee. The baklava was served warm with a decadent amount of buttery flavor and the firnee was a tasty pudding featuring some deep flavor. As a tip, if you're interested in the Kashmiri tea you should tell the staff early as it can take a while to make. We'll return to try it another time and give the rest of the menu a try. The indecisiveness got me today. I walked all around the town strip in search of food. My boyfriend and I stumbled on this spot. I never had Afghan Cuisine before but I am semi familiar with the cuisine. I ordered the lamb chop platter with a side of Dhal. My boyfriend ordered the falafel platter. Yum! I've been craving Afghani food ever since i Moved out of Watchung, and had to leave behind my beloved silk road restaurant, in Warren, New Jersey. Everything we ate and drank here was fantastic . My boyfriend was a little nervous because he had never tried this type of food before . However, as soon as he had a taste, he told me that he was "calling dibs" on any leftover food. The dogh (yogurt drink) was refreshing and had pieces of mint in it that were bursting with fresh herbal flavor. I became completely obsessed with the table sauces and put them on everything I could. What a delightful surprise Sarinas is. My two dishes were superb, a wonderful balance of spices with unique flavors. Best falafel since Mamouns in Greenwich Village. The lady serving, and probably cooking was divine. Most items are made fresh, she admitted one ingredient was not, excellent to find a honest restauranteur. I will return. I love this restaurant. The only down side is the place is NOT beautiful, decoration is rather terrible. Thats a shame because if the decor was as brilliant as the food the place should be jumping. read more

The lamb dish was good, the lamb itself was tender and flavorful. However it wasn't what I expected, instead of cubed cuts of lamb, it was 4 thin lamb chops on top of rice. Took my wife and son to dinner on a Friday night. We ordered the Ashak, chicken sambosa, and Kashmiri tea. It was amazing. First time ever having Afghan food and it was very flavorful. My four year old had the sambosa and french fries. I feel like that was a good dish for him and he seemed to enjoy it. Our waitress was very nice and took great care of us. Can't wait to come back. From a perspective of someone who is not very much into afghan cuisine this could be a decent place. But if you are seriously into afghan food or similar cuisine this place is not for you given the food is average. I ordered combo3 to get a taste of all types of meat offerings and more or else it was either overcooked with slight burned edges, adana kebab was the only exception being undercooked. This was the first time I tried Afghani food and it was amazing. We went during Suffern Restaurant Week and were able to enjoy 4 courses. The potato bolani was delicious as well as the chicken tikka kabab. We also enjoyed the bread on the table. The meat dishes are done well at this no frills restaurant. We got the Qabuli pulao which is a rice dish that came with a lamb shank and a topping of caramelized carrots and raisins. The rice was delicious and the lamb shank was tender. We also got combo #3, which came with rice, salad, Afghan bread, one lamb chop, a beef kofta skewer and chicken tikkas. Again, the meat was juicy, had a charcoal smokiness and was tender. They give sauces of cilantro chutney and white sauce to dip in. The food is all served on styrofoam plates and accompanied with plastic cutlery. We rounded off our meal with Kashmiri tea which was a delight - pink in color, milky, topped with pistachio crumbles, coconut and strong undertones of cardamom. We loved the food here. read more

Never been here before, so we ordered a bunch of different things - overall, the food was excellent and a super affordable price considering all we ate - $40 bucks for two people. Not Impressed. I'd wanted to try this place for quite a while. Ordered the chicken tikka kebab and shrimp kebab entrees. Both the chicken and shrimp were quite over cooked to the point of being dry and a bit rubbery. More attention needs to be paid to the food quality as had the items been cooked correctly I would have given a higher rating. The included salads were basic and hastily prepared with lettuce sticking out of the plastic container (unsanitary), lids to meals were soiled with spices from handling (not a sanitary look), and the included bread not thawed or heated properly (it appears it was frozen). The food tasted ok, but being much too overcooked made this not a terribly pleasant experience. Unlikely I'll be going back any time soon. UPDATE: I have had a queasy stomach (and urge to "go") since eating there yesterday...I will definitely NOT be returning to this place again. I have a pretty tough stomach in general and I'm no stranger to various spicy ethic foods--something wasn't right there with their food, either not fresh or unsanitary conditions--perhaps both. The quality has been going down since the past few years, but i still kept ordering from them cause there wasn't an afghan restaurant in this area. I called and told them what had happened the next day, they did not offer to replace, refund or make it up in any way shape or form. I will not be ordering from them again, they were always pricey from the get go, always had issues if i asked for extra white sauce even though i was paying for it, and charge a crazy amount if you take extra pieces of bread. I never minded but since this was the 4th time the food had tasted bad, but this last time the meat was raw and they didn't do anything about it, and this was the breaking point. Worst restaurant ordered food in Ramadan the food was bad not good in taste and very expensive

I must start by saying that we love afghan food and Sarinas has been our go to spot ever since they opened. Their food has been decent but lately for the past few times the quality has dropped drastically. The chicken kofta kebabs have been soggy and seemed like they were made with chicken that had gone bad (happened twice). The sambosas, chicken wings and fries were over cooked, seems like they were sitting in the freezer a little too long and someone just dropped them in oil to cook them. Overall, as much as we love the restaurant i couldn't help but to write this review so they can improve their standard. We maybe giving it another try but if it doesn't get better we'll be taking our business elsewhere. read more

Call to place takeout order and I am asked to call back 20 minutes later. I say huh? As I'm thrown off by the request and was already driving in their direction as they are almost 30 minutes away. So I say I'm trying to order takeout. The lady speaks back forth with someone at same time. So I then say are you too busy? She says yes I'm too busy. I say okay bye. Who the heck tells a customer I'm too busy. Don't answer the phone or tell the customer it will be 40 minutes for pick up. Never tell a customer no. That's bad business. I been here before several times over the year. This place always has issues with service. It's as if a 3 year old is running the place. Stopped going for a while bc during summer they don't put any ac and the place feels like it's 100 degrees inside so gawd knows what happens to the quality of the food. The food is decent. Nothing spectacular. The service though is always bad. Hard to find afghani food around here so I deal with the bad service. I hate when I call to order beef tikka kebab and the girl will say chicken kebab? How the heck does the word beef get mixed up for chicken. They don't remotely sound the same. This happens every time I order and she's the one who answers. You really need to remove the girl from the phone and even the register. One day she stood there giving me change and it took her like 3 minutes atleast to figure out 20-14.50 is 5.50 or whatever lol. My family and I recently got delivery from Sarinas. It was our first time having Afghani food and we all absolutely loved it! The delivery came early and everything was hot and well packaged. We tried a variety of dishes and enjoyed them all. We loved all the spices in the various dishes we tried. Our favorites were the eggplant appetizer (Bademjan Borani) with the Afghani bread (similar to foccacia). Another favorite was a lamb shank with carrot and raisin rice (Qabeli Palow). If you're not eating here you're missing out. I've never had Afgan cuisine before but so glad I tried this place. My husband and I really loved the scallion pancakes, and the yogurt sauce was devine. I've never tried Afghan cuisine, so I didn't know what to expect. This restaurant is clean and the service is great. (They don't serve alcohol, but I didn't care. We were going to the winery in Hillburn and we needed to eat.) We had 2 appetizers: Vegetable Sambosa and Burani. Although the sambosa's vegetables appeared and tasted frozen, the Burani was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. I could've have eaten just that. For entrees, we got a Lamb Kebab and Ashok. The lamb was very tender and the ashok was mealy/grainy. I don't know if was supposed to be that way or not. I kept going back for more Burani. The rice they serve is different from other cuisines--it was good. It's worth a try. If you're vegan and/or gluten-free, this place has limited options. read more
