This has become an annual ritual for my busy buddies and me, sadly not more frequent because the food and the service is at the very upper echelon of amazing, healthy, natural, better than Michelin Star level real AfghanistanI cuisine served by a beautiful man who absolutely dotes on you and takes care of every single detail. We got the magnificent wings, the silky hummus, the fantastic mixed salad, the hot bread, the delicious dumplings,off the bone lamb chops, and gorgeous chicken kebabs. The Afghani brown rice was a big hit. We made sure we had room for the stupendous baklava served warm with the Afghani coffee and cardamom tea. The inside is warm, inviting and decorated with lovely mementos and souvenirs & great music playing in the background. Visited on a Sunday around 5 PM with family and was seated right away. The hostess, who also served as our waitress, was very friendly and welcoming. We already knew what we wanted for our entrées but decided to start with a few appetizers. Based on her recommendation, we tried the Mantoo (steamed chicken dumplings) and Kashk Badenjan (eggplant dish). Both were flavorful and enjoyed by everyone at the table. For our main course, we ordered the Mixed Grill Combination, which included lamb tikka, lamb kebab, jujeh, and chicken tikka. The portion was generous--perfect for sharing and even better for leftovers. It happened to be my aunts birthday and we were offered a traditional Afghan dessert, Firnee. It was a pudding topped with pistachios. It was creamy and sweet. Such a thoughtful gesture. By the way they also offer BYOB, which is a nice bonus. Had the pleasure of meeting Rafi, Afghan George Clooney (his words, not mine) and trying Kabul Grill for the first time after finding it on Yelp. My friend and I got the barg kabob with naan and the Sabzi palak (beef with spinach) that we got with rice. Both were good, but I enjoyed the texture of the meat and spinach dish more. The rice was flavorful. I overheard Rafi explaining to the other table and folks that got takeout that it would be an extra charge, but he could customize their orders, which I thought was nice that he was very transparent with them upfront and willing to work with the customer so that they could order the items that they want. I also appreciated him explaining to my friend that Turkish coffee comes with sugar and not milk and clarifying if she was OK with that before he made the coffee. We were given free firnee. Rafi was kind to check if we are allergic to dairy before offering it to us. Overall, the food was good. Service was fine and there was free parking in the back. read more

A delicious meal with top-notch hospitality! We went as a large group on a recommendation from a friend's parents. No one in the group was an expert of Afghani food, so we got an appetizer sampler to start off. They gave us free naan to dip with. I loved the borani banjan, with the flavorful and creamy eggplant. The salad was served before the entree. And at this point, I did already feel pretty full. But I rallied for the sabzi palak. The bits of beef inside the stew were perfectly tender, which was great because I couldn't chew very well that day. We had to rush for a post-dinner reservation, but I wish we could have stayed and enjoyed the complementary dessert at a more leisurely pace. Some of the best Afghan food I've had! Will definitely be returning! I tried the Awshak, Sultani kebab, and Firnee for dessert. All were spectacular. Awshak: the leeks were well seasoned inside the dumplings and they did not stick together at all. The ground beef and lentils over the top added nice textures and flavors and were not overly greasy. The yogurt was tangy and cooling which cut the meat well. The cilantro and herbs also added nice freshness. Sultani: both the kobideh (ground kebab) and the barg (thin sliced beef) were tender, well seasoned, and smoked well. The onions with sumac and the basmati rice with zereshk berries added a nice sweet and tart contrast. They paired very nicely. Firnee: I usually hesitate with firnee because the texture is hard to make grit free and smooth. This one was silky smooth and the crushed pistachio and cardamom flavors paired well. It was a tad too sweet but was so well made in terms of texture, ai would gladly order again. Whole meal was exceptional! Highly recommend! read more

I visited at lunch tome and the restaurant manager himself served the food to me. We had a nice chat, as he is a very sociable individual. The food was delectable and well seasoned. I had grilled chicken, with white rice and Zereshk berries (as an addition), since it wasa relatively smaller meal. It actually wasn't that small, enough for me to take leftovers. I did not expect much as it is a fairly standard fair, but it was actually very good! I also got a chance to sample Naan, and even Hummus, which I also did not have much expectations for as a middle-eastern diner, but I was pleasantly surprised by the subtle but unique seasoning. The salad was the only thing not quite on par with the other dishes, but then again I don't know how common green salad is in authentic Afghan cuisine. The restaurant is a cloth table establishment and has a tasteful decore. I noticed a beautiful authentic looking sitting area at the very front of the restaurant for a group. This is a gem in a nice corner across the street from the Hicksville mall. They recently renovated and added authentic Afghan mats. The young lady in the front who took our orders was friendly and courteous which is pretty refreshing. We got complimentary bread and desert. The food itself was absolutely delicious - the rice was soft and fluffy and the kabobs were juicy and flavorful. Date night turned Delicious!!! I would give the ranking way higher than 5 stars. The gentleman in the dining room was nothing less than 110% attentive to details and extraordinarily hospitable. Everything we tried on the menu from 4 appetizers, most of the grilled meats and some sides and dips were all delicious and had wonderful flavors.I loved the hot sauce too! It's 10:16am I get a text from one of the kindest biggest hearted people I have the pleasure of knowing Ray N. He's in town & wanted to spoil me for my Born Day. So sweet. He asks when I'm available. They open at 12pm & Ray says there's no time like the present. See ya there! Both Ray & I've been eyeing it for awhile. Now I'm not an Afghan food expert by any means. Truth be told I've only had it twice before today. But I am so glad we chose here. Hospitality & humor go a long way with me. And Rafi & Morsal (guessing on the spelling) gave us both generously. But it's a restaurant and this is about the food........ Delicious!!! Every morsel packed with flavor! We started with apps. A small salad was brought out followed by hummus with warm bread, kinda like a pita had a baby with roti. Very good. Then Rafi the owner brought over a beef dumpling called Mantu. The dumpling was light & tender served with a tomato sauce & yogurt on top. Then there were 2 sauces on the table that were incredibly zesty & spicy & complimented the mantu perfectly. Ray chose the Salmon Kebab platter while I ordered the Cornish Hen. Both with the Afghan brown rice. I asked for sumac & yogurt sauce which took both delicious dishes to another level of goodness. Oh and don't let me forget the hot spiced tea with the sugar cubes. I love tea served in clear glass cups & sugar cubes make me nostalgic LOL! Rafi told us they've been here for 18 years.
