I have lived in the Margate/Coral Springs area since I moved to Florida twenty years ago, and Coral Square Mall is the closest mall to me, and while it's food court has seen many changes, there are a few constants. Sarku Japan it's one of them. They went through a remodel recently and were closed for a couple of weeks. I can't really tell what's changed, but any change is good. One thing they didn't change is their most popular menu item Chicken Teriyaki with rice and veggies. I love it!! There is something about this chicken that no other place has. Ans believe you me, I have had tons of chicken teriyaki in other places. I also love the cabbage based veggies they use. Nothing fancy, just a cole slaw mix I think, but they cook it to perfection and along with the sauce and chicken, its just great. They also now offer bento boxes and sushi rolls. I believe the rolls are pre made. But you cannot beat that chicken! And at $6.79 you can't go wrong. I take this over a fast food meal any day. Service is fast, fast. They have it down to a science. Since I went to the Sarku in the Broward Mall, I decided I would try this location. The service was fast and efficient, and everyone was really nice. They had the Bento box which I could not refuse, so we had one with Beef Teriyaki and the other with Chicken Teriyaki. We both thought they needed just a little more seasoning. I was surprised how large the portion was especially for the price, and there were tons of fresh veggies making a bed for a giant pile of perfectly cooked soba noodles. I enjoyed it and it felt somewhat healthy with all the veggies, and wasn't greasy at all. All the food is cooked on a huge grill in front of the customers. Everything sizzling on the grill looked tasty. The only comment I have is the teriyaki sauce was too sweet. I like a bit of sweetness with teriyaki but this was almost maple sugar over rice and shrimp. The veggies were fresh and well cooked. I always order the Terriyaki Chicken with double meat. It's delicious and I'm convinced you get a bigger serving if you have it in the to-go box. The sauce has changed over the years which is a little disappointing because the sauce used to be to die for. I absolutely LOVE this place. Their best seller, the chicken teriyaki rolls (with spicy mayo) is the most delicious seafood substitution I've EVER had. They always offer free samples of the teriyaki chicken itself and pieces of the rolls. Most Sarku Japan locations don't even have a sushi bar, but I'm so happy that this one does. My husband and I visited Coral Square Mall on Wednesday June 20 and went to the food court around 5 pm for something to eat. We approached Sarku Japan, THERE WAS NO WAITING LINE and we moved a little to the right so we could read the menu exhibit. We are seniors so we needed a closer look at the menu. When we decided what to order we moved back in front of the cashier and another family had arrived while we were reading the menu, very nice people and they said we could go first because they saw we were there before them. When we started to order the employee behind the counter was very rude and refused to serve us because he said we were not in the waiting line and even if the other family told him we were first he still refused to serve us. We asked to talk to the manager and he was polite, he offered to serve us, never called the employee. Of course we did not eat at Sarku and we will never eat there after suffering such bad treatment and, yes, discrimination. We think the manager didn't care about the employee's behavior. read more
