    Grilled liempo
    Erica A.

I had been seeing Sarsa all over TikTok even prior to my trip to the Philippines, so I was very curious about trying this viral spot. We went in around 1:15PM on a Tuesday afternoon and came after the lunch rush, so we were seated very quickly. Right off the bat, I appreciated the mix of modern and traditional Filipino decor plus the cool surfing-related items. I was most interested in trying the inasal paa based on reviews I had seen, but the grilled liempo and crab tortang talong also caught our eyes on the menu. The chicken was good and the crab tortang talong was a fun mix of textures but was a little on the greasy side. The true star of the show was the grilled liempo with its sweet and savory marinade, smokey flavor, and perfectly pickled atsara on the side. All in all, a wonderful lunch experience and worth all the hype!

I tried this restaurant again after 5 years since is just right next to our Condo in Rada. The food is still not that great! Expensive for the amount they give you.We ordered sisig and it was mostly...table spoons or less of meat and the rest were onions .The Tortang talong was ok but the crab meat they used to top it off had an odd not so fresh flavor.I wonder how is this restaurant still open? I think it just caters to the people who lives on our street.I should've gone to WildFlour instead. Also your tables have seen better days...the paint was chipping big time and it was sticky.Work on your portions.

""Sarsa" means sauce, this restaurant servers local soul food made great. They are known for chicken bbq. The seating and ambience is casual, service is good but preparation may take some time as does all soul food. You can immerse in some locally inspired cocktails and local beers. This is great place for all day meals and If you like a filipino food or a bbq lover and have some time you will have a soulful meal. Reservations are recommended.

Sarsa is a small sized restaurant, other words a bistro, that serves your familiar Filipino-Negrense cuisines. Headed by Chef JP Anglo, who further manages are number of Sarsa branches, focuses on presenting cuisines that embodies Filipino heritage with new dishes every six months. Unfortunately, you won't see him cooking in the kitchen. I'm no expert on Negrense food, however through my experience in visiting Sarsa, it was not all too far from Filipino cuisines I have grown up eating... I've been following this chef on Instagram for a while, so when I was visiting The Philippines from the US last week, I had to make a reservation. Made a reservation for 6:00 and arrived about 20 minutes early and we were promptly seated. The decor and feel off the space is very tropical and relaxing without being too excessive. We started with a couple of house made sangrias Very refreshing. Our server, I believe his name was Nilo, was helpful in suggesting a few items. Everything is served family style, but we were only a party of two and didn't want to over order. We started with BBQ pork skewers, then pinakbet, sisig, and bistek along with steamed rice. I am not a pinakbet fan, but this was very good. I had two helpings. Sisig was good, but didn't have the bite of chili pepper that I like, but I did finish the platter. My favorite of the night was the bistek. The flavor of citrus, soy, and chili was perfect. The meat was the most tender bistek I've ever had. I couldn't get enough of this. We finished by sharing a halo halo. Always a fun dessert to order after a big Filipino meal. We both enjoyed this meal and wish Chef JP had a place in the US so we could enjoy more of his menu.

Good food by a popular TV food channel host who goes all around the Philippines. His heritage is Illongo from the central visayas. I went with a foodie from Bacolod and we really enjoyed the Chicken Inasal, which is, regardless of where you come from. a safe favorite thing to order. Th Batchoy soup is a Bacolod favorite, and that was excellent as well. The favorites are covered. To me, the best thing was that due to JP's travels, he has managed to take those favorites and tweak them, and experiment with variations. Honestly, I can't wait to go back. oh yeah.. excellent value for money.

    Crispy dilis. Too addicting.

Sarsa never fails to catch my attention when I walk past it - and it's probably because its walls are decorated with the reviews of noted celebrities and chefs, singing the restaurant's praises. The place is also packed every lunch and dinner, so when I decided to try it out, I had to do so after lunch. (Around 1:30pm, when everyone's settled back in their offices and freelancers like me can eat.) I ordered Crispy Dilis for an appetizer and I suddenly wished that I just ordered a cup of rice to go with it - because I didn't know their servings were good for sharing! The dilis was great and incredibly addicting. Like good, fishy popcorn or Pringles. I did also order one of their bestsellers: tuna sisig. Although it was good, I still found myself crunching down the dilis. If you're into gourmet sisig (doesn't that sound like an oxymoron!), Sarsa is one of the places to visit! There's a reason it's packed all the time. :)

Interiors are beautiful and cozy. The leather chairs, central bar, and decor take you to another world where you can enjoy your classic cocktail, scotch, or wine in utter opulence. The staff are always efficient and helpful when serving and suggesting drinks if you are feeling a little adventurous. Try the Negroni 1919 or the Espresso Martini. Good selection of wines too and a decent repertoire of Single Malts (for a price!). Bar chow is available too if you feel like you need more than the refillable snacks they serve you. It's also the perfect place to have an intimate conversation or a casual meeting. Cigar smokers and smokers alike will enjoy the fact that you can smoke here (sorry non-smokers!). Price points are expensive compared to your average bars or speakeasies but you're at The Peninsula after all. The overall feel is nostalgic, classic, and definitely for those who enjoy high quality cocktails and drinks in a place that makes you feel like you're transported to a bar in Cuba with different world music playing in the background.

The atmosphere is definitely a vibe--chill and social. Music starts up later in the evening (around 9 PM, I believe), which helps transition the mood as night falls. We visited fairly early and enjoyed the shift when the music began. However, one interaction notably dampened the experience. A brief, joking conversation with a bouncer took an unexpectedly dark turn. When I lightheartedly asked if anyone had ever tripped on the spiral staircase, he replied, "Only if I throw them off." Joking or not, for someone responsible for patron safety, this felt in poor taste and sounds like he wants to look or sound intimidating. It's a remark that unfortunately sticks with you. And it was of bad taste. Overall, Z Roof Deck has much to offer in terms of views and ambiance, but attention to staff training and customer interaction would elevate it from a good spot to a great one. 2 star from poor choice of words from the security at the roof deck. My friends from Concerned Artists of the Philippines in UP held a back to back gig of two independent bands there last night (Plagpul and KALIS), so I passed by and gave my support. It was my first time in this bar but I already knew about it for quite some time; it's Back to the Future signage along Tomas Morato, corner E. Rodriguez is simply hard to miss. I was curious at first to see what it's like inside Back to the 90's, only to find out that it's actually no different from most bars ideal for gatherings of independent bands and the underground music scene. The only difference with Back to the 90's is practically, its 90's theme. You will definitely see a lot of Throwback posts on their walls because of the framed movie and music posters from the 90's era. Haha! What a virtual way to describe it, but I would rather stick to such description than say nostalgic because I simply did not get the feel. I was born 1991, so I really wasn't able to get a glimpse of how bars then were like. Although, when I asked some of my older friends there, they said that 'yes, this is actually a recreation of a 90's bar.' What I like about it, is it's cozy but rock and roll ambiance that went well with its small, vertical space; comfortable couches are leaned against graffiti walls showcased by dimmed pin lights. They also have a very cute menu placed in an old school CD case where they offer alcoholic beverages and bar dishes like Nacho's, Fries, Buffalo Wings, etc. Although, I wasn't able to have a taste of any because I was a little broke last night (P200.00 per order), and their selections were not really that inviting, the waiter said that their best seller is the Tapsilog. Overall, it was an OK bar for me. I would go here if good bands will be playing but probably not for a usual late night chill or beer nights.
