I'm no stranger to waxing, but I've always wanted to try sugaring and this was my first time. With sugaring, it is also removing the hair but it is much more gentle on your skin. I came in with no expectations of the pain level, and it ended up hurting a lot less than waxes I've gotten in the past. When you arrive you'll need to take off your shoes at the door. There's water in the waiting room and plenty of seating and reading material. Lucianne was super patient and provided a lot of information on the process. She was gentle (as far as hair removal goes) and made my first sugaring experience super relaxing. If you're used to waxing, the pain is no where compared to a Brazilian wax. If you're nervous l, highly recommend taking a Tylenol beforehand. They sell natural skincare products in-house, and I purchased their serum created by Ritual Union (ritual_Union on IG) to use and help with ingrowns and moisturizing. It's full of great ingredients and I'm excited to be using it. If you're into skincare/body care, Lucianne recommended to check out Earth Commons on Springdale Road. They also do events, sell tea blends, and offer holistic services. Absolutely loved my experience and I think this has converted me from using hard wax to sugaring. I do find the "pull" of sugaring to be pretty uncomfortable compared to the classic wax strip, but I think the extra discomfort is worth the perfectly soft results. Exactly the type of calm that I need from somebody removing hair from a highly sensitive area. For clarification, Fiona sugared me, but I'm not sure if she sugars everybody. She is incredibly thorough, and can give you cool ideas about styling if you wish not to go 100% bare. I want to listen to her voice all day, she's so CHILL. The vulva and female celebratory art, the hanging plants, the chill music, and the natural lighting (NO FLUORESCENT LIGHTS) are everything I ever dreamed of in a wax studio. Fiona is so warm and inviting. The room is full of natural light and beautiful plants. Our conversations are great and the time just flies by. Best Ever! Sassy Miss Waxy is not run of the mill spa treatment, but an experience. Fiona is a total fairy. She's bright, bubbly, and attentive. She not only makes you feel special, and pretty, she also is a healer of sorts. (I'm an intuitive tarot card reader, so I should know). I promise you will leave uplifted. As you come into her warm retro vintage inspired home, often with records playing you are offered a delicious beverage of some kind. She is very thorough on her questionnaire, really delving into what would be best for your skin. After choosing the correct aromatherapy for me while she touched my third eye and having me inhale, I was put at ease with the correct scent and a feet and neck massage. (She will even look up the essence and tell you what it is good for). Her spa room is uncluttered and charming with plants in the windowsills and a vintage cart with her 'magical potions' for your skin. Being a vegan, Fiona said if you can't eat it, you shouldn't put it on your skin. She uses all natural products from ethically sound companies often owned by amazing women. My skin soaked up every single product and I was glowing afterwards. It detoxed itself well after the facial. Mind you, I have sensitive skin and am a big baby about pain. When I got waxed, Fiona knew just how to distract me and was very empathic to my needs. She completely put me at ease and I was so nervous to go after a bad experience somewhere else years ago. I can't say enough good things about the lovely Miss Fiona. I had a great experience here, from start to finish. Having hair forcibly removed from your body generally isn't the most fun thing you can do, but if you have to do it, you may as well do it in the hands of an extremely skilled esthetician, who has a beautifully decorated space and provides great conversation; both will keep you occupied and distracted until the process is over. The house is the most beautiful I've ever seen, and I was trying to commit everything to memory for future inspiration for my own house (whenever that'll happen). It was cozy, welcoming, and fun. Fiona herself was very sweet and just her personality and presence put me at ease. The ceiling in her waxing studio is gold with white bat silhouettes, and is fun to look at. I met Fiona in a social situation. No, it wasn't a Roman orgy. But I loved her energy. So when I finally decided to take the plunge to so some intimate landscaping, I knew there was only one person to see. Her place is easy to find and inviting. Her treatment area is set apart from her home with clever paper screens. Once inside, the ambiance is kitschy with a touch of old-fashioned. As this was a first-time experience for me, I was nervous as a cat. Luckily Fiona is very good with cats. :D The waxing itself was as easy as could be given the fact that you are allowing someone to cover you in a hot substance and then rip it off your body. Sure, parts were painful, but with Fiona keeping up a breezy conversation? Who cares! I was more than satisfied with the procedure and the results. After going through pages and pages of waxing salons in Austin, I finally decided that this place would be my best bet. The prices were good and it sounded similar to the place that I go to back home in Dallas. I scheduled my appointment and looked up the location on google maps. Upon looking at the street view, I was like "is that a house??" I'll have to admit that this gave me a funny feeling. The day of my appointment arrived and I got to the house and I still was nervous. I wondered if I was supposed to knock on the door, just walk in, or do something else. Luckily there was a note on the door that said to "come in and make yourself at home!" The note also tells you to go to the orange room. When I walked into the room I thought, "this is so Austin." The room is very orange and very inviting. A few minutes after filling out some paper work, Fiona came out and said that she was ready for me. Let me just tell you, FIONA IS AMAZING. AMAZING! Like my waxer back home, she will talk to you the entire time she is waxing which is something that I quite enjoy. She is super sweet and really good at what she does. The waiting space, and the home in general, has so much of that funky-fresh Austin style that makes me green with envy, as I could never pull it off without paying someone to do it for me. Remove the quirky space, Fiona's pleasantly distracting chatter and warm demeanor, AND the plate of cookies in the waiting room, and this is STILL the best waxing experience I have ever had. Sure, waxing will never be painless, but this is as close as it gets. Additionally, she is thorough, and nothing about the appointment was or felt rushed - a very pleasant change from what I have become accustomed. Fiona is very sweet and personable. She runs her waxing salon out of a cozy home in Bouldin, as she did in Chicago prior to relocating to Austin a year ago. It felt more like I was visiting an old friend than going for a salon appointment. She did a fabulous job on my brows, keeping them natural-looking while cleaning them up a bit. I have thick brows and usually take care of them myself because I worry about estheticians making them too thin, which would look ridiculous on me.
