As a child in the 80s I grew up eating breakfast at the Satellite. Now, 40 years later.....yuck! Husband and I stopped in Friday morning for a quick breakfast. One cook and we waited about a half an hour for breakfast. It was just us in the front dining room. The eggs were slimy and greasy and the sausage gravy had a yellow greasy tinge. My husband's pancakes were freezer burnt. He has to have blueberries in them and they said they can't do that. They're pre-made pancakes for sure. Overall will not be back. We stopped for breakfast on our way out of OC. The windows of the restaurant were all shaded out and the entrance looking in need of repair, so I was even unsure if the place was open for business. The vibe inside was really off, too, with each person looking like they hadn't cracked a smile in the past 3 days. The coffee and food were, surprisingly decent, including a worthy cappuccino. Unfortunately, when I got home later that day I found 3 charges from the restaurant on my bank statement and no phone number listed online. Out of all the breakfast spots I've been to, Satellite Coffee Shop has been a favorite of mine for years. As a self-proclaimed breakfast fanatic, this place is in my top 3. Ocean City has countless places to eat, but if you're looking for a cozy spot with that classic diner feel, Satellite is an awesome choice. You can get breakfast or lunch when you visit, but if you know me you know I will always choose breakfast. The little café is located on the side of the Howard Johnson hotel on 24th street and the boardwalk, so a stop in for a bite to eat can easily be worked into your morning plans. One of the best ways to work off a hefty breakfast is to walk it out on the boardwalk. Outside you'll see that they are cash only, but they do have an ATM right in the front of the restaurant if you don't have cash. Not a deal breaker by any means for as good as the food is here. My obsession with Satellite French toast began about 4 years ago when I lived in Ocean City. I was working at a neighboring hotel on the boardwalk and saw someone eating what looked like the most beautiful French toast of my life. I had to ask where they had found such a wonderful thing. They were kind enough to let me sample their takeout order of thick-sliced French toast with powdered sugar on top, and the rest was history. 4 years later, here I am, still making it a necessity to get some French toast on each trip to OC I go on. If I'm feeling fancy I'll order the Banana Split French Toast, which comes with bananas and slivered almonds. On our most recent visit, my boyfriend and I experienced the same lovely service I've had on each previous trip here. He ordered a combination of pancakes, eggs and sausage and I was indeed feeling fancy so I ordered my Banana Split French Toast. We ate every last bit of food and the coffee was great with our meal. Went here for breakfast while having a group vacation. I will stay we had a new server and she was really nice, student visiting from another country. The food was okay I was not impressed nothing stood out to me. They did have our order wrong 2 out of 4 order was wrong, but didn't want to make a fuss and we were ready to go, so we settled for what her had. I would not come back, there are other breakfast places in the area The big disappointment was that they did not serve any turkey sausage or turkey bacon. It's 2019 seriously get with the times. We actually stumbled upon this little self proclaimed coffee shop by just driving and looking for something to eat on our way out of OC. The menu is way more extensive than your typical coffee shop. They had pancakes, french toast, omelets, hashbrowns, among other breakfast items. No waffles though. The coffee was just okay. For a "coffee shop" I thought it would be better. My food was really good. I got the Bay Breeze which is cream cheese stuffed French toast with your choice of fruit topping. I got the strawberry topping. The meal was very rich. The bf got the Western Omlete with toast and hashbrowns. The omlete was good. Better than the one I had the previous day at Happy Jack's but still just a typical omlete. The hash browns were better than say IHOP. Similar but more flavorful. The decor was very cute and cozy. So that gives it a coffee shop vibe. The service was quick but I dont think our server has ever smiled in his life. They also have their own medium-sized parking lot which is always a welcome treasure in OC. My first job was at the Sattelite Coffee Shop in 1972. It was run by a family who cared about the food they served, how it was served and most of all, they cared about the customers and the servers. I still have the telescope pictures we had taken of all the staff. Yeah, times change...things do not stay the same...but memories last forever. They served THE best pecan pancakes I have ever eaten in my life. From some of the reviews I've read, some people just don't get it. The Sattelite was not and sounds like it is still not a fancy, barista kind of coffee bar. Only giving them 1 star because when my family went the customer service was awful. My mom goes in and request breakfast carry out because we started our day at the beach really early. They give her a menu to take with her so she can bring it back like 30 minutes later when everyone was ready to order. Shes ready to order, waits 20 minutes just to be told by the manager they are not doing carry out today while his back is turned, the same person who handed her a menu. HIGHLY ANNOYED, yes but the were super busy so we tried to give it a pass. Next day we go, not busy at all...nobody waiting for a table, figured it was our chance to get something. When ever we stay at Howard Johnsons on 24th Street, Ocean Side (Boardwalk) we always make it a point to eat breakfast at Satellite. The food is excellent! Prepared as expected and piping hot when it hits your table! The wait staff are friendly and professional. Even if we choose another hotel when we come again next year, we are definitely eating here again! Be prepared to pay cash only as they do not make separate checks for large groups and still operate an antique analogue cash register. (Part of the charm of this quaint little coffee shop.) Another frustrating disappointment in Ocean City. This restaurant may be a good place to have breakfast (although the faded decor looked more dingy than charming) but it is NOT a coffee shop. Coffee shops sell multiple varieties of coffee and baked goods, which you can enjoy at cafe-style seating. Satellite has diner-style booths and sells only plain drip coffee of mediocre quality. It was a sultry September Saturday when I visited, so I ordered iced coffee with cream and sugar. I got a paper cup of said drip coffee poured over ice. She set it on the service counter next to some packets of sugar and half-and-half, which I added myself -- resulting in gritty coffee of uneven sweetness. To add insult to injury, the lid didn't fit right and dripped all over me for the next few blocks, when I finally threw the whole thing away. The final straw: they're a cash only business. Ridiculously archaic and inconvenient. Two stars only because the server who helped me was quick, friendly and gave me a cup of water at no additional charge (I used it to wash the spilled coffee off of my hands.) It's not her fault they mislabeled the shop, but I won't be back regardless. read more

We eat here every single time we are in Ocean City (about 10 times a summer). They have the best breakfast in all of OC and I've tried a bunch. Excellent food, quick, easy, mostly friendly. There is one server that is really not personable and has worked there the last 3 years. We seem to always get him, but we always come back because everything else is fantastic. I am slowly enjoying my second cup of coffee as I write this, and no one is trying to hurry me out the door. That alone is worth a star, or more, in a beach town. Even though this is a weekday, I don't think the waitress and cook would lose their Charleston-worthy Southern hospitality on a busy weekend. (two stars) The food itself earns the last two stars: perfectly cooked and arrived at our table in minutes. We tried a good cross-section of the menu with three adults and two children. It was ok. The bagels weren't very toasted and they only have plain bagels and plain cream cheese so not much selection. We didn't order any of their main dishes but saw others getting served things like French toast which looked really good. The inside is extremely old fashioned and could definitely use a makeover. It's also really inconvenient that they only take cash and the ATM inside charges $3 to take cash out. The location is pretty nice in that it's right off the board walk, and they have a public bathroom right outside the restaurant which was appreciated. Excellent service, delicious food and a quaint atmosphere at this just-off-the-boardwalk coffee shop. Golden brown pancakes had a touch of vanilla and were not huge. Belgian waffles had a rich texture and nice flavor. Bacon, eggs and even the wheat toast was delish -- and I doubt I will ever rave again about plain old wheat toast but this was, in fact, memorably good wheat toast! Go figure. Best sweet grits I've ever had, not being a fan of grits generally, so that is saying something. Cute little cafe is lessened by a practical, added-on and far less appealing backroom for overflow crowds. Bathroom (located outside) could use a facelift and cleanup, and busboys need to not reach across your face to silently clear some plates while people are still eating. But waitresses themselves were full of happy personality and hons to spare. Decent coffee, fast service and a hearty brekkie. A fine choice. read more

Bummed. To be fair, let me say that I used to really like this place. It was a stop my family and I would make every time we were in Ocean City. Unfortunately, we won't be back. I'm hoping that maybe the owners or managers will see the complaints and fix the issues. We went for breakfast last week. We all noticed right away that the place seemed really dirty and run down. We were seated right outside the kitchen door near the waitress station and back bar area, which was gross and cause me to lose my appetite. Our waitress was either high on drugs or having a manic episode. She ask us before we ordered if we are paying cash or credit card. We thought that was weird. She kept dropping and spilling things, clearing things from our table that we weren't finished with - like our food and silverware!!! Her behavior was erratic and she was rambling nonstop. Several employees and possibly an owner were sitting and standing around the back bar talking loudly, oblivious to the customers and the waitress. Decided to stop by because of the great reviews and wasn't very impressed. We walked in at 11am the morning after Memorial Day and there was no one in the restaurant. Initially I thought it was closed but tried the door and was surprised to find it opened. A waitress quickly greeted and sat us. Service was great but I ordered biscuits and gravy and it was a lot of thick sauce that was barely warm. Hash browns were mushy, not crispy. My cousin enjoyed her pancake, scrambled eggs and bacon but that's pretty basic. Coffee was ok, but nothing to write home about. The decor is country and cute. Maybe I just went on an off day since everyone left the day before at the end of the holiday weekend. Probably won't be back. read more

This is NOT a coffee shop. This is a diner masquerading as a coffee shop. If you want breakfast maybe you will like it here, if you want an espresso or a cortado, dissapointment will follow you. Also if you just want coffee, you may need to let them know before being seated. Went here and cups of regular coffee were presented to us. Although they were not ordered, we were charged for theses glasses. I ordered a macchiato, this was mediocre. Someone in our group ordered iced coffee after asking if it was available and was given a glass of hot coffee with ice in it. Just a horrible experience altogether. read more

I tried breakfast and lunch and wasn't even close to being disappointed. They would have gotten 5 stars if they took CC cards, but I can get by that. Stayed at the adjoining hotel, hojo, and stopped in here to check it out, would have gotten another star if my wife would have liked her food, I got the eggs over hash-browns topped with cream chipped beef and old bay which was excellent and my wife had the sage sausage gravy which she didn't eat because it was overly salty! The services was friendly but slow as hell and the air wasn't working plus they still charged my wife's food so I can't say I would eat here again. Really great service, food, and a laidback atmosphere! The lattes are made with high quality espresso, and the coffee is solid. I had one of the best omelettes ever- a very generous portion with ham, mushrooms, and,cheese. Pancakes were fluffy and not too sweet. We sat outside and the waitresses were super nice to our dog: they brought him water and bacon without us asking for anything from them! It's that kind of extra service that earns The 5th star. This place makes pancakes exactly the way I like them. Thin, slightly fluffy but with an eggy quality. None of that super fluffy IHOP crap. The creamed chipped beef is on point. The food was awe full! The Bay Breeze ( French toast with cream cheese) was mushy French toast with a slab of cream cheese, not melted and "topped with "fresh fruit " was cold pie filling .
