When we started planning our wedding, choosing the right photographer was one of the most daunting…read moredecisions. We had to stick to a budget, but also knew having great photos that would stand the test of time was a top priority for our day. My husband and I also had different photography style preferences, so in an effort to combine his likes (fine art style, light and airy) with mine (true color/dramatic, documentary, artistic) I reached out to 40 different photographers! As soon as we saw Aja's work and spoke to her on the phone, we knew we had finally found the right match for us that checked all the boxes. To start out, we had a very specific vision for our engagement shoot at an arcade bar and billiards hall. Aja was all in on this idea and she and Sydney spent so much time with us, giving amazing posing guidance, something we really wanted! They were also just super fun to spend time with, and Aja has an amazing eye, knowing within minutes of stepping into a location which shots are a must. We were thrilled with how our engagement photos came out! When it came time for the wedding, Aja continued to be incredibly communicative leading up to the event, taking time on the phone with us to go over the timeline and sending shot lists and detail checklists. On the day of the wedding, she and her team arrived early and delivered us nearly 900 photos! We had a large wedding party as well as family to wrangle and she was great at keeping everything moving quickly and utilizing every unique corner of our venue, the Oviatt. But it had to be done and I knew that I needed to find a photgrapher who could help me look as good as a pregnant Demi Moore or Heidi Klum. OK, maybe not, but at least they could try. I found Sarina through yelp and after looking through her website and blog, I was sold. Her body of work speaks for itself and she clearly has a good eye for taking beautiful shots. I contacted her through her website and she responded the same day. I could tell right away just how professional and easy she would be to work with, so I booked her immediately. We decided to take pictures in the Orange Circle since I love that area and thought it would be cool and different, especially for a maternity shoot. Sarina showed up on time and we all felt comfortable with her right away. We took a ton of shots, from sitting in the park bench to interesting brick alleys and even the train depot. When something caught Sarina's eye, she went for it, and most of our best pics are from her suggestions. My 3 year old actually paid attention to Sarina and listened to her prompts, which was completely unexpected. He even went a little Zoolander during the shoot and now has the Blue Steel nailed. She made me feel like a pregnant model and I worked it (or waddled it) as best as I could. Even my husband, who prefers to be behind the camera, had a good time. After the shoot, Sarina sent us our digital proofs within a few days and asked us to pick our top 10 faves for enhancements. The only hard part of the entire process was picking out our top ten. You see, my husband and I eloped a year ago in January 2025 and had what everyone thought was our wedding in January 2026 but to everyone's surprise it was actually our one year wedding anniversary instead. When we were doing research on ways to elope we stumbled upon the Old Orange County Courthouse and we weren't familiar with the Old Orange County Courthouse at all or photographers in the area in general but when we googled OOCC, Lucia came up.
