I was in town recently and had dinner here. Even though I was by myself, the staff took great care of me. The service was very good and the food was delicious. I started with the MIXED LETTUCE SALAD: grape tomatoes, radish, cucumber, goat cheese, walnuts, champagne vinaigrette. This was a nice start to my meal. Not too heavy, not too light. My favorite toppings. For my entree, I had the NIMAN RANCH PORK OSSO BUCO: herb roasted butternut squash, caramelized, brussel sprouts, pearl onions and braising liquid reduction. Food first, thoughts after... A very delightful evening out with my love. Located in Cahaba Heights with easy to access parking spots, lives this homey and history filled restaurant. Our waitress has been working there for over 5 years. The restaurant's walls are lined with photos of the owner, Becky, and her family, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The service was relatively fast though we were an early dinner couple. The seafood was pretty fresh and our entrees were delicious. White table cloth restaurant in Cahaba Heights with outside seating and cozy interior lighting. Upon entering there was no one at the hostess station. Hostess and one of the servers were standing near the kitchen chatting. The server had to tell her we were standing there. Had a 7:45 reservation. The service: our server, Danielle, was nice, friendly and attentive. The food: Crab claws were fried to perfection; right amount of crunch and not greasy. My husband had the Duroc pork chop, dry, tough and lacked flavor. The collard greens that came with it were good, seasoned well. I had the Chicken scallopini was dry. I've never had chicken scallopini without a sauce on top. This had a balsamic sauce on the bottom. The Gouda grits that came with it were good as was the broccolini. Our daughter had 1/2 dozen oysters and the grilled beef tenderloin. She said all was delicious. I don't eat oysters so can't speak for that. I did try her tenderloin and it was cooked perfectly (medium rare plus) and was tender. The bartender was on point. UNPROFESSIONAL AND UNRELIABLE -- DO NOT BOOK PRIVATE EVENTS Our company has attempted to book private dining at Satterfield's twice, years apart, and both experiences were mishandled in the same way, last-minute issues followed by blame placed on the customer. Most recently, we booked a private dining reservation for 15 guests on 11/03 for an event scheduled 12/18. On 12/16, just two days before the event, we were contacted by Satterfield's and told that we had called on 11/13 to reschedule the date. We did not. As a result, our original space was no longer available, and we were informed they could not accommodate our party. The explanation given was that the employee who handled the original booking no longer works there. Unfortunately, this mirrors our prior experience years ago, when a private room was also canceled at the last minute due to an internal error, again with responsibility shifted to us. Two separate bookings. Two last-minute failures. No accountability. This wasn't bad luck, it was repeated internal mismanagement. We won't be making a third attempt. read more

We celebrated our 43rd anniversary here the night before the expected snowstorm! It was very delightful in all aspects. Matt was an excellent server and gave us great suggestions. We were very pleased to be able to split our salad and dessert and have such generous portions of each to enjoy. My husband tried the duck (a first) and we both liked it but my braised short rib was scrumptious with surprising flavors from black olives and tiny sweet peppers I'd never had before! The beef was falling apart tender and served with a nice gravy over pappardelle noodles. Our Caesar salad was the best with Parmesan cheese like clouds of flavor. Dessert was beignets dusted in cinnamon served over baked apples and vanilla ice cream! It was fabulous! We celebrated our daughter's engagement here last night. We had the private room. Matt our server was excellent . Food was fantastic. Appetizers- the crab claws and fried okra ,so good. They were excellent and and showed numerous times that they cared about our experience, such as closing the door so we could muffle the noise of all the other patrons. Love the ambience here and really enjoyed my meal. I got the Halibut on a bed of risotto with a green verde sauce that paired excellent with the fish. The risotto also had crawfish in it which I loved. Dinner menu had about 8-10 items on it and something for everyone. My wife had the beef filet and while good, it wasn't one of the best we've had in Bham. I think she'll probably get fish next time. A fine lunch celebrating a work team member's retirement. I ordered the gazpacho soup, brussel sprouts, and blackened catfish with remoulade sauce as it was the Friday special. The gazpacho soup was pretty unique. I enjoyed it, especially since I am a big fan of acidic, vinegary tastes. I agreed with the waitress who described the soup (served cold), as refreshing in the summer. The fried brussel sprouts with soba glaze were well received by my palate as well. Crispy and soft, bitter and sweet at the same time. The blackened catfish was blackened in a manner which I haven't seen before. It had some crispy char on it that seemed like it was some type of light batter. Very good. It was good enough without the remoulade sauce, but the sauce was a nice addition to the fish (and to the brussel sprouts, which I used to mop up the rest of the sauce). Consistent quality and delicious offerings is Satterfileds. Have been going for years, although there was some years ago it was neither of those two virtues above. It has, within the most frequent visits 4-6 visits over the last 4 years been excellent. Servers we have had have been attentive, informative and able to answer most questions thrown at them by our dining party. Business/pleasure dinner this last visit was superb all the way. I think the restaurant does have a tendency to overbook not wanting to turn any business away, but the downside of that is that there are not enough staff to be able to service patrons thoroughly. read more

After opening it's doors in 2005, Satterfield's has grown a large following to the point that they should find a larger home. Under the direction of Becky Satterfield, named best female Chef in Alabama by USA Today, Satterfield's offers fine dining with eclectic global styles ranging from French, Italian, Spanish and even Mediterranean, but with a Southern twist. Located in a small "strip mall" behind the Summit in Cahaba Heights, be prepared to use valet parking or drive around looking for limited parking spots. Later in the evening for dinner, you can find more parking behind the restaurant. If you come for lunch while the surrounding businesses are open... good luck. They used to be open only for dinner but are now open for lunch until 2 then reopen at 4 for dinner. Their menus and prices can be found on their website. It helps to make a reservation and our party of 6 were seated right on schedule. The main dining room is not very large. It really did feel like I was eating in someone's house. One wall was covered completely in framed photos of individuals. There is also a side room that can be used for private parties and a smaller room with a bar. The acoustics are not favorable for romantic evenings as it was very loud with conversations. Their lunch menu is a simple "meat and 3" format, but elevated. The offerings look amazing and I will have to come back for lunch. Tonight unfortunately there were no specials. Our server Micah was attentive and we had our drinks quickly. She also brought the complimentary slices of bread and famous corn muffins soon afterwards. The mini corn muffins were very tasty. With an impressive beverage selection, everyone enjoyed their cocktails. Our Fritto Misto appetizer also arrived quickly. The cornmeal breaded and fried pieces of snapper, shrimp and oysters were delicious. So were the fried pickles and onion rings. It was served with a small portion of a very delicious tartar sauce. Our entrees took much longer than I expected, but it was worth the wait. Paul and Kenny had the Pekin duck. It was a large portion and they reported it was delicious. Renee and Linh both tried the grilled atlantic mahi. The mahi was carefully placed on toast and also reported to be delectable. Tammy and I both requested the seared red snapper. The portion was smaller than I would've liked, but it was seared beautifully just the way I like it. The presentation was beautiful as the snapper sat on a portion of green beans surrounded by halved baby potatoes and baby tomatoes... all atop their "sauce rouille". This sauce was outstanding. Yom Yom Yom. To me, it was an elevated remoulade and had the distinctive dark orange color . I left nothing on my plate. The green beans were cooked perfectly with just a slight crunch. Potatoes and tomatoes were also so good with that sauce. Conversation at our table was going so well, we discovered we had room for dessert after all. Paul and Linh go the creme brulee while the rest of us sampled the beignets. The creme brulee looked delicious, but I was quite satisfied with my beignets. Homemade into small rectangular blocks, the beignets were soft and warm on the inside... and topped with the quickly melting homemade vanilla bean ice cream... Yom Yom Yom Yom! It was so good it didn't need any of the sauteed apples. Be prepared for a big hit to your wallet, but this is fine dining at it's best. Our server was excellent and attentive. Last night was my second time at Satterfield's. I can confidently say that the service and food were consistently great each visit. This spot is definitely a place I can see continuing to come back to for a date night or special occasion. We made reservations on OpenTable for 7:30 last night. As we arrived, we saw the entire parking lot was complimentary valet parking. When we approached the door, the same hostess from last time (a friendly woman with blond hair that dresses so cute) opened the door for us and warmly welcomed us to the restaurant. We told her we had reservations and she escorted us to our table. As we sat down, we looked at the drink menu. My husband decided on a glass of red wine and I wanted a cocktail that was somewhat sweet, yet refreshing. A server said he'd have the bar make me something special based on what flavors I like. I told him citrus fruit and he brought back the perfect drink. We ordered the crispy deviled eggs to share. The eggs are topped with caviar and they were paired with this really nice sauce. For my entree, I had the scallops and my husband had beef filet. We both thoroughly enjoyed our dinner selections. I tried some of my husband's meal and it was downright delectable. My scallops were amazing and the they paired so well with the spring pea salad they were served over. We had peach beignets our first visit that made me want to sing the hallelujah chorus. Last night, we had apple beignets that were just as good. I just would have wanted one more dollop of the vanilla ice cream. Overall, it was a truly lovely dining experience from beginning to end. I want to add that there is a bar area you can visit and it has a tv. It is separate from the main dining room. There's also a private dining area that would be perfect for a birthday party or anniversary dinner. Go try them out for yourself! You'll love it. It has a private parking lot that is dedicated to valet parking. The white tablecloth restaurant has three dining areas. There is a main dining room and private room on he left. A full service bar and smaller dining area is to the right. Our party of three were seated in the private room. The restaurant was very loud, but the private room was better when the door was closed. The menu is printed daily with the day's offerings. The menu is made up of sophisticated entrees using only the freshest ingredients. The complex combinations show off the creativity and culinary range of executive chef Tripp Mauldin. Tonight there was a special entree to celebrate Camellia beans. Camellias are a New Orleans kitchen staple. Tonight's special entree was Roasted Quail served with Connecah sausage and Camellia red beans. My friend Kenny ordered it and enjoyed it very much. Linh ordered the Seared Sea Scallops. It was another good choice, and consisted of five large scallops that were fresh and sweet. I ordered the Braised Beef Short Ribs. It was outstanding. Two tender short ribs were stacked on a base of potato cake and a layer of collard greens. It was topped with a delicious beef gravy. read more

We loved their lunch but they quit serving because of the parking. We had our 32nd Anniversary there and it was not the same. I had the Tres Major and the beef was super chewy. They are skimping on the quality. The food was very slow to arrive and not up to par. The menu is very limited and a little high. I don't mind spending 150$ but the food has to be better. Consistently, one of Birmingham's finest dining spots, Becky Satterfield's gem in the suburb of Cahaba Heights is worth the drive. We visited recently during Birmingham Restaurant Week and were so happy we did. Seated at the Chef's Counter, we had no problem getting a 7:00 reservation, and we got dinner and a show- watching the chef and his kitchen staff expertly prepare the evening's fare. I started with the summer tomato salad. Chunks of perfectly ripe tomatoes were paired with sweet corn and goat cheese crumbles, cucumbers, and avocado slices that had been crusted with everything bagel spice. It was all delicious dredged through the generous puddle of green goddess dressing to the side of the plate. My dining partner ordered the Brunswick stew, full of tender pork and chicken. It could have stood alone as dinner, especially considering how large the portion was. It was full of summer vegetables and absolutely delicious. Dinner of steelhead trout was served medium rare over a bed of farro verde succotash, with all the flavors of summer bursting forth. The watermelon radish relish was a sweet-tart accompaniment that cut the richness of the dish. Our other entree was the bacon wrapped pork loin with grits, beans, green tomato chow chow, and pepper sauce-tomato gravy. The pork was the most tender you could imagine, and subtly smoky from the bacon. We each ended our meal with Satterfield's signature dessert- beignets with sautéed apples and vanilla bean ice cream- so amazing! The beignets were perfectly "krispy" on the outside while pillowy soft and tender inside. All in all, a perfect evening. read more

I appreciate they had valet, even though the restaurant was the only thing open in the building at the time. We sat in a cozy booth and had a super fun waitress! For dinner, three ordered the Beef Tenderloin, two order the recommended Gulf Red Snapper, and one ordered the Chicken Paillard. Everyone was thrilled with their meals, which were filled with flavor and expertly prepared. Kenneth suggested a wine that all would enjoy. Two of our group had just arrived home from 20 days in Europe. They sent their compliments to the chef, as their steak was some of the best they had tasted, anywhere. We somehow found room to order -and enjoy!!- the creme brûlée and the beignets. Delicious. It was a night for the memory books. Thanks to all who made it so. WOW this was the best meal I've had in a while! Highly recommend! I came with my husband's family for dinner and dessert and loved everything we ordered, especially the scallops and the beignets! First, the complimentary bread plate (thankful for the bread because I was starving) came with 3 different types of bread, including some cute little corn muffins which I loved. I ordered the seared scallops, which came with pumpkin risotto, mushrooms, carrots, and crispy pumpkin seeds, and OMG... this dish was just perfection. The scallops were lightly seared and soft and pillowy on the inside. The mushrooms had an amazing umami flavor and the pumpkin seeds added a nice crunch to the risotto. Honestly I could go on for days so I'll just leave it right there. For dessert, our table shared the beignets, coffee brandy creme brulee, dark chocolate pots de creme, and the gingerbread cake. Not gonna lie I'm normally not a beignet person, but these were on a whole other level!! I strongly recommend this to everyone! I was shocked at how warm and gooey they were. The other desserts were also to die for - the creme brulee was perfect and had a rich strong coffee taste. Why have we waited so long? I can't believe this was our first time to visit Satterfield's, and it was amazing! I started off with a peach cobbler old fashioned. The pork belly crostini was worth the visit alone, and we will go back to have that dish again. Heath provided superior service and allowed me to have the Halibut on the succotash (normally with the crab cakes) and it was perfection. Each bite of succotash tasted like a southern summer; the okra was just right as was each of the other many ingredients. There was a kimchi flavored shaved ice served with the blue point oysters that was so good it will make future dining experiences pale without it now. The beef tenderloin and sweet potatoes with thyme were also excellent. We didn't have room for dessert, but would have loved trying the peanut butter and banana pudding, I mean those two things just GO together, right? First time eating at this place. First observation, quaint place sitting off of a side street. We made a reservation and was greeted with a pleasant smile and shown to our seats. I ordered the tenderloin and it was perfect! The beef was so tender that it could be cut with a fork. The flavor was delicious! Best mashed potatoes that I've ever had, so light and creamy with slices of potatoes. The asparagus was good. Cooked to perfection, not over cooked or undercooked. What a wonderful dinner! Let me start with valet parking--easy and a thoughtful touch! We left our phones in the car and felt like we were on vacation. Decided on something new for a birthday celebration and this place didn't dissatisfy. They really pay attention to detail and make sure you don't have to ask for anything. The valet was the first person to greet us and he was really nice and was very polite. When we entered the restaurant, the greeter was ready to assist us and seated us promptly. Once we glanced at the menu, I noticed that they personalized it to help us celebrate our outing. Our waiter Terry, was energetic and made us feel like we were at home. He gave us great recommendations and assured us that everything was delicious. The bread plate that was brought out was a great way to start the meal. It consisted of a fresh sourdough, some type of Brad with raisins and a jalapeño cornbread muffin. All were awesome and were hot and freshly made. We started off with fried green tomatoe tower with fresh blue crab meat. You will need to order your own because you will be upset if you have to share. The texture of the tomatoes along with breading were some of the best I've ever had. The crab meat was like icing on the cake. Our entrees consisted of the scallops and the qual stuffed with cornbread dressing. The scallops were huge and fresh. No gritty taste here! They were lightly seasoned so you could taste the freshness of the scallops. The fresh corn, along with the other compliments made this a dish that is on our list of repetition. The qual was beyond my expectations. It also had fresh black eyed peas and sausage. The qual wasn't dry and was full of flavor. The sausage and peas were a great combo along with the qual.
