First of all, to clarify, I am NOT the other Peter M below with the March 2023 rating of 2 stars. I lived in MN for 35 years tho, and I bought my Savage Rohr 15 way back in 2001, and it is the one piece of gear I have kept longer than any other gear Ive owned except my tuner! It is a fantastic amp with a variety of tones. 25 years old, looks brand new, and the sound is terrific! I moved to Colorado 13 years ago, and I still send the head back to Jeff for repairs unless its just a tube swap. But honestly, this amp is a beast of a workhorse and so well built, the only things Ive had to update were a loose tube socket and my own choice of updating the head to be switchable to half power (ala 15x). I play live often and get tons of compliments on both the sound and the look, and its cool to meet people who recognize the Savage brand out here in the mountains. Ive also owned a Macht 6 and had my pedal board updated there as well. Jeff is super friendly and the service is the highest quality! Mesa Boogie suggested me to go to Savage Audio to fix my California 6v6 20:2 and got to know Jeff. He fixed the warm up problem of the amp, change part of the trebble knob, and found out a weak connection that effected the sound of the amp. Now it sounds more aggressively punchy and I love it, Jeff is so good in his profession and a kind person as well ! read more

First let me say the amps they make are great. The best sounding amp I've ever owned. Unfortunately the customer service is terrible. I ordered an amp and paid cash. They said it would be done in six weeks. Well six months later it was finally done. It broke down two weeks later. It took another six months to be "repaired". Again it broke down. I took to EMI and it has been fine ever since. So for great sounding amps, 5 stars. For customer service, Less than 1 star. read more

I have taken 2 amplifiers to Savage Audio. It has been a while since I required their services. The first time I brought in a Mesa Boogie combo amp I bought used. Jeff is very honest. It cost me 50.00 (Which was the minimum bench charge at the time). He went through it with a fine tooth comb. It was worth the 50.00 fee to find out I had bought an amp that had a clean bill of health. The second visit I brought in a Mesa Boogie head. There were problems which needed some soldering and tube(s). I was called and was given a quote of 175.00. -I asked Jeff to please proceed, the amp came out great. The bench charge is applied to the amount to "fix" any problem, so the bench/diagnostic fee is not a waste when work is required. Expensive-yes. It is worth the price. I received excellent help. I took in my 1968 Fender Deluxe Reverb for new tubes and biasing. I was told "you need a new speaker". I said, "Ok", and they put in a new speaker. However, I didn't get my original speaker back. At the time, I didn't think about it, but now that I know more about amps, that speaker was the reason I liked how that amp sounded. Since then the amp never sounded as good. I would like to know if they make a habit of stealing old parts off of vintage amps to unsuspecting customers? I want my speaker back! read more

After looking at lots of different amps, both new and used I stopped in at Savage and played the Rohr15. Wow, what an amp! This amp goes from clean sparkle chime to a growling roar that covers pretty much anything I need or want to play. It somehow sounds more high definition than most other amps, but musical at the same time! I placed my order, and since these amps are built to order I picked the speaker I wanted, and, the cabinet too! I had a goofy idea to make it 2 tone and it turned out BEAUTIFUL! I needed some work done on my pedal board so on the recommendation of a friend I brought it in to Savage Audio on April 6th. They said that they were a little backed up but that it would be ready in 2-4 weeks. In the end the job took longer than expected but they did great work and Jeff went out of his way to make it up to me. I also got to spend some time with one of their amps and it was most impressive. Overall I found Jeff and Smitty to be very approachable, responsive and trustworthy. Great guys to do business with. read more

Nobody touches my amps except me and the crew at Savage Audio. They re-tubed my Crate Black Voodoo several times over the years and even took care of my old Crate combo. They get busy so sometimes it could take a little time but it's always worth it. They know their stuff at this place and go the extra mile for the customer.
