I normally like this store and the employees are mostly great. However, I was just struck by their security gates when they slammed shut as I entered the store. Someone left through the security gates as I entered. This other person set off the alarm, causing the gates to slam shut and hit me in the legs, stopping me very suddenly. It was like being hit in the leg with a baseball bat. My leg, back, and wrist are all in pain following the incident. The manager refused to get me the security footage of the incident- claiming he did not have access. This security system is dangerous and if this gate slams on a senior citizen or a disabled person, it could cause very serious injury. I understand Save Mart's desire for security, but this security system is dangerous- and it did not stop the person who set off the alarm from stealing. Nobody chased him. It was pointless and I am in pain, as a result. I am posting this in case someone else has been injured by this or is injured in the future. If a person had struck me like the security gates did, I would have pressed charges for assault. Save Mart should remove this unsafe security system. read more

I make trips here a 1-2 times a month. It's, in essence, a nice store. They have a huge selection of tasty food items in their deli and bakery sections. Be sure to try their fried chicken. It never fails to amaze me. They also offer many other food items that I just can't find at other grocery stores. They call it "Save Mart", because you save here, but I wouldn't say that it's always the case. Prices can be pretty high at times. Not too long ago, a couple weeks ago to clarify, I bought not too many things and paid about $150. Service is not bad. Employees are ready to help you and do their job. Ambiance is reasonably good. I feel safe and at ease inside the store and can easily make my way through the aisles and get what I need without any hassle. There are sometimes some shady people loitering outside, which is why I don't come here as much as I'd like, but it's an excellent store nonetheless. read more

Yes, if you are in the mood for some of the best fried chicken around and at a decent price compared to KFC or chain restaurant, this is the place, the service deli at the Save Mart! I'm here visiting Chico with a friend and was in the mood for fried chicken and from past experiences, I know Save Mart has some of the best I've had. They fry the chicken in commercial pressure fryers that make for a super juicy and tender but still crispy piece of fried chicken. Your teeth just sink in and bit off easy right into the meat. You can;t get this without using the commercial pressure cookers they have here. The price for a 8 piece order or 2 each of wings, thighs,drumsticks and breasts is about $10 ... yeah used to be $7.00, but you know everything's gone up. I'm here for the chicken, but I do shop here at Save mart regularly, the location near where I live I mean. You want some of the best fried chicken you'll ever have, get over to the Save Mart! Tip: for best taste and experience, eat the chicken right away after purchase, don't reheat, just eat right away for the best taste. They have a great selection of products to choose from and the employees are always kind and courteous. Their bakery is AMAZING and they make the best chocolate covered strawberries I have ever had. This used to be my go to store but the customer service is now just appalling. Im done with the place now. I was there the checker- a guy with a joker tatoo on his forearm - gave ZERO acknowledgment to the customers ahead of me ... and then myself while having s full on laughing convo with the 2 bagger chicks. I have been shopping at Savemart since it opened many years ago. It is close to my neighborhood and has always been my go to for groceries. Their app that you need to use does not work despite many efforts to use it for sale prices. The last few times I was in the store there were only 2 checkers and despite 8 people with full carts in each of those aisles, no request for more checker help was made. With the rush of holiday shopping it was inexcusable. The prices are higher than other stores in the area as well. I will not be shopping at Savemart anymore. Not worth all the time, effort and frustration. Wake up corporate! read more

This grocery store is just like any other, it has mediocre prices, its clean and they have decent cashiers. The person in charge of 'self check' out the day I visited the store was at his post ready to help me (and the other people who got "stuck") using the machines. I like that you don't have to carry around a customer loyalty card because they supposedly can offer the low prices on ALL groceries without having a 'discount card'. I don't know if I find that to be true or not because I have found cheaper prices around town but.... whatever, I guess that's their 'shtick'. I did however, find that their organic selection of produce was old (ish) and soft, likely from not being rotated as often as it should be. In other words, it wasn't fresh. I ended up buying the veggies I needed anyway simply because I didn't want to have to stop at another store before going home. My tomatoes were a bit mushy and my bell peppers were soft, way 'less then desirable'. I know for sure I wont come here for veggies in the future.... the rest of the store is just like any other store. read more

I use to shop here for many years, however, the last two times I've in to shop I have noticed that there are more and more people without masks. I am appaled that the mask isn't enforced. I don't understand why there isn't someone that takes care of this problem. The baskets aren't being sanitized. Don't you care about your business or the safety of you employees or customers. I love shopping here, always stop by to get the ingredients i need. The groceries are fresh enough, but you can tell that you must use your items within a couple days or else they'll go bad. One thing that drives me nuts is that they have Jicama (my favorite fruit) and it ALWAYS has mold. I I sometimes feel like telling one of the employees but I just don't bother. But maybe I should or they'll see my review. The prices are pretty reasonable. The staff are always friendly and very helpful. Willing to assist you when needed. I always see the same people, and a few of them seem to recognize me. I've also tried out their bakery and have some pretty good snacks to try out. read more

Dirty, cracked floors. Mismatched, uneven tiles everywhere. Clearly repaired several times, but never done correctly once. Produce always on sale due to being hard as rocks and always about as juicy. A deli counter JUST inside the front doors convenient for all the flies to live in. Don't believe me just go over to the hot rotisserie chicken display where you'll find far more flies than chicken hanging out. All of which is from 8am. (Check the time stamps) And last but not least- if it can melt, it will be melted, and cooled back down after they leave it in the back room for weeks. Good luck buying ice cream here. So glad to be apart of the Save Mart community here in Paradise California. After the fire in November 2018. They were one of the very first businesses to open their doors to be there for the community!! Even though at the time. My wife and I were staying in Folsom California. Cause we could not move back into our home yet. When we would come and see our home. We would stop in and buy stuff. To show our appreciation and so that our money would help to rebuild our town!! I have lived in Chico for over 20 years, and this has been my main grocery store over the years. While is was outdated visually, they have been upgrading it and I love it, I cant wait until they are finished with the upgrades. Over the years I have had the pleasure of getting to know my SaveMart Team, and I love that they are all a part of my community! Whenever I have had a question or concern, George, the manager, has always made things right, every time! And my favorite cashier is Steve Keene, he is kind, funny, helpful and sincerely cares about the people who go through his line. If there are open registers, and Steve has a line of customers, my husband and I will wait in Steve's line irregardless of how long it is, just to say hi and see how he's doing! I just called this Save Mart for work related purposes twice today. The first time I called, the phone rang for about 5 minutes and no one answered. I understand they may be busy, but it was only 9:00 in the morning.. The second time I called, someone named Brandon picked up and was very polite and put my on hold for a manager. I proceeded to be put on hold for 10 minutes until someone else picked up and said "You still waiting for someone?"....I don't know what was going on, but you don't need to talk to me that way when I went out of my way to wait 10 minutes on hold just to talk to someone. I hope no one else has had to put up with their horrible customer service. read more

They aren't good with special orders and don't have very much follow through when you have requests. I would have given it 4-5 stars if I could shop there at any hour of the day. Super rude employees--which is sad, considering how price-friendly the store is as a whole. Honestly, I will never go back to this store--EVER-- given how hurt I am emotionally. I was unfortunately discriminated against for my sexuality by homophobic staff at this store--including one of the bearded managers there, and a few of the younger straight guys who work there. One lady who worked or still works there had made a homophobic remark as well a few weeks back, which I know was directed to me. I am not sure if she still works there or not, but it was hurtful. I complained to upper management about most of these encounters, but it seems that every time I go in, the bearded manager guy gives me a horrible vibe and actual physical look whenever our eyes meet. I also get the sense that he and a few of his "minion co-workers" there, who may also be his friends, are in collusion with each other to deliberately repel me from going back to shop there. During my last (and very last EVER) trip there, I sensed this very strongly, when he was giving me funny looks, and then looking towards the bald male cashier who attended to me that night, and who was horribly rude to me. My last trip was definitely not very nice, as I had encountered homophobia from not only that bearded manager, but also one of the younger blond male co-workers there. All I did was smile at him, and the responsive vibe from him was just AWFUL. One lady who works there was giving me very strange looks too, and the bald cashier who attended to me was super rude and condescending, insisting that I should know and tell him my precise balance on one of my cards, so that he wouldn't have to type it in to process the transaction for my purchase. I kept thinking to myself, "1) How RUDE, and 2) are you THAT LAZY, that you can't figure that out for me as a customer, to do YOUR job of serving ME? Just....WOW!" I had only a rough idea of an approximate amount, but didn't have time to check the precise balance, given the hectic events of the day. I still knew that I had enough to cover the amount purchased though, through other means. I told him this openly, and with understandable consternation. This store is good if you do not have anything to do with the pharmacy. If you need any over the counter medicines or supplies then its good. If you have a prescription, oh boy. It is completely over crowded. It does not matter if you arrive there with your prescription or you have the prescription sent over from your doctor, your going to wait. And if you wait, hopefully they don't forget that you are there waiting. I just had a prescription sent over from my Dr. and when I arrived (Two Hours Later) it was not filled. They initially could not find the prescription until they saw it on the fax machine waiting. Then they advised me it would be 30 minutes to an hour wait. The parking lot is filled with what appear to be disheveled homeless people and all appear to be high on narcotics. Be vigilant at night and don't keep any valuables exposed in your vehicle. Don't be surprised if your car is vandalized when you come out. Solution: Have your prescription sent to Safeway or Raley's. But again, for any over the counter stuff, its pretty money friendly. I was coming through Chico when I saw this store and decided to get my groceries here and go straight home an hour away. Maybe it's because I go in later on at night, but this place seems to have consistently poor service. The first time I ever went in shortly after moving to the area was a late night trip for medicine for a sick child. I Wasn't in the store for more than 20 seconds when a fatigued clerk rudely told me that they were closing in 15 minutes. I've worked in grocery and I understand what it's like to be in the store waiting for customers after closing. However, there are better ways to get your point across. Since then every time I've gone in it seems like the service is on par with my first experience. They just can't be bothered. I've given this store a few chances but frequently will go across town to Safeway or across the street to Raleys and spend more money on the same product for a better experience. Something about this place is not right. Their produces are never fresh and the seafood is forgettable. Their employees, especially the cashiers, are unprofessional. They don't smile or greet you well. I've had some of the worst experiences here because of them. One time me and my friends were blatantly followed by a lady worker for unknown reasons. I once bought alcohol here and presented my ID to the cashier. He then proceeded to do some kind of FBI investigation to see if I was 21 or over, which I certainly am. They take their jobs too seriously and it ruins the shopping experience. I much rather go to Raleys or Safeway than be scolded by these grocery cops. read more

My elderly parents recently shopped at Save Mart on East Avenue, Chico. My mother always writes a check for the groceries. The cashier scanned an image of the check. My parents then noticed on their bank statement an incorrect amount for that check to Save Mart. A Save Mart employee had made a copy of that image, removing the pay to the order of and the amount. This person then went to Best Buy and purchased $830 worth of items. As if this wasn't bad enough, my elderly father called the manager to report the incident. The manager did nothing except tell my father to call the corporate office! I have been a director and manager for years. If someone had told me an employee did something like that, I would immediately launch an investigation and fire the responsible employee. My father called the corporate office, left a message. They have not heard a thing. It breaks my heart that someone preyed on my elderly and confused parents. This whole event and response is COMPLETELY unacceptable. Buyer beware. read more

This store is amazing! I love the helpfulness of the managers, cashiers and down the line to the courtesy clerks and stockers. My personal favorite was a manager by the name of Deb. She was extremely warm and friendly and made me feel valued. While shopping for produce I was assisted by the nicest young man and everyone there went above and beyond to help me. This store has never been my go-to grocery store but I needed something spur of the moment and it was the closest available so I ventured in. I walked in and was immediately greeted by an employee who was in the middle of stocking shelves. I appreciated that he took time to genuinely say "welcome in". I found everything I needed and hopped in line. There were a few people backed up and the same employee who had greeted me, came to my rescue and opened up the register! He even helped me unload my cart onto the conveyor belt before I was rung up by another employee. Thank you for making my day, it was unexpected kindness and for that ONE experience, I say, I'm a fan of Save-Mart!
