as an anchor tenant at yaohan centre, osaka supermarket really sets the tone for the whole space,…read moreand i love both it and t&t supermarket for how consistently good their selection is. they both have an incredible range that turns a regular grocery run into something closer to a treasure hunt. there's always something seasonal or interesting to find, like the limited ruby red kiwi that's unbelievably sweet and juicy, or mango portuguese tarts from the bakery that balance buttery pastry, custard, and fresh fruit in a way that feels like a small indulgence. the prepared foods and deli sections are a major highlight, with a wide variety of ready to eat meals, including whole fried chicken and other hot items that make it easy to grab something substantial on the go. the bakery sections are equally strong, with fresh daily items that are hard to walk past without stopping. both stores also have k-beauty sections, adding another layer beyond food, skincare and lifestyle products sitting alongside groceries in a way that makes the experience feel closer to a mixed asian market than a standard supermarket. the seafood counters are another standout, especially when live spot prawns are in season, adding that extra sense of freshness and movement to the shopping experience. on top of everything, both also have member rewards program, which just adds to that routine of coming back regularly, especially when there's always something new, seasonal, or unexpectedly good waiting to be discovered.

Huge store with a massive selection from produce to pre-made food to seafood. T&T has it all!…read more It feels like a classic chinese market but 5x the normal size! It was absolutely packed to the brim, but that was to be expected since it was the weekend. Everyone was generally very polite and considerate of everyone around though, which was nice and honestly not very common in American markets. I really appreciated their seafood display. They also had a great variety. Langostino was a really unique item to have at the fish counter! I was absolutely blown away by the pre-made food section. The presentation on their pre-made food made me feel like I was transported to a night market! There were almost too many things to look at.

There is an 88 in Richmond now. The store is quite big. I did find some of the fruits not as fresh…read moreas I hoped it would be. They have some pretty good deals but I do find their flyer pretty confusing. Depending on which page you are looking at, the deals are not the same in the Richmond, Kerrisdale and Victoria Drive location.

From Fabric to Food…read more The triple Eff Effing good. This was the former location of Fabricana. No idea why they moved out, but whatever. 88 has a couple of locations in Vancouver, but because I'm on the wrong side of the tracks, it's a jaunt to get those stores. They don't welcome my kind of riff raff presence either way, so here I came. Another Asian supermarket? Yes, but this one is a little different from all the other ones in Richmond. This one is more Pan Asian, instead of Chinese focussed. More so than T&T. Got be diverse, no? Malaysian Filipino Vietnamese Chinese Were the samplings I ascertained. I noticed that they have untrimmed beef flank. Not too many places sell this. The store is relatively new. There's a parking lot in the back that can get a bit crazy and busy. Rice World up the street has a crazier parking experience. It may get like this here too one day. I saw some very low prices on poultry. There's a hot food section for take out. This place reminds me a lot of Chong Lee Market in East Van So far so good. I think I'm coming back.

This is a foodie's paradise, but the only reason for the 4 stars is price of sashimi and meats. But…read morein terms of snacks and drinks, the prices are very reasonable for the variety that comes in and can't find anywhere else in town. My favourites being Yuzu Meltykiss, sugared Yuzu peels and specialty Calbee. The Kitkat selection is small from my experience (1-3 varieties) and T&T still remains the leader for me in that category. You'd be wrong to think that nearby Izumiya is identical, as Darumaya sells things more suited to an individual instead of family sized. Products are also more unique and different, with the store's small footprint making it like a maze with lots to discover. It's a great place to go if you're looking for unique snacks to mail to friends elsewhere or to share locally. Chips go for around $2.99-$3.99 a bag though. I also appreciate the thoughtfulness of the small drinks fridge beside the checkout, paired with the non-refrigerated drinks on another shelf. My foodie friend and I remark at the price of the frozen, vacuum sealed wagyu and fresh sashimi every time we go. We're not chefs, but they are both out of our price range, most likely attributed to import charges for a small establishment. However, if you can afford quality, I'm sure it'll be there. The sashimi is very fresh and prepared in house though, but having lived here so long, there are other places to get quality sashimi for less.

It's tight in here ! And with restrictions lifted it can get congested FAST ! ! For grocery items…read morethey're primarily snack-centric , but they do carry some basic Japanese staples . What impressed us most however is their sashimi selection , so unbelievably fresh ( for a non-restaurant ) ! Also their wagyu ( A3 - A5 available ) , ohhh-sooo-heavenly ! !
