Used to really like this grocery store - they don't have a big selection of obscure/specialty foods but they carry all of the necessities and the options are still pretty good given the relatively small area. The ready-to-eat meals and bakery are both good but not great, but worth it for the price. The bakery desserts always look exciting, but the execution is sometimes underwhelming - the cakes are too sweet for me. I have always gotten excellent bread from the bakery though. Staff is mostly pretty nice. Occasionally I've met employees who seem unhappy to be having to deal with me, but those are a minority. I say I "used to" like Nester's because today I came here to grab a quick dinner, and as I was leaving, a mouse ran out from underneath the condiments/trash counter in the eating area, running right into my foot before scurrying out of sight again. Seeing that this is apparently an ongoing issue, I think I'll be avoiding this store for a while. Have to leave just 1 star even though I do still like their food because I cannot recommend a store with a rodent problem in good conscience. read more

The bottom of the 2L milk carton was wet with milk. We only found out later when we saw the milk leaking from the carton in the basket. We went back to the shelf for a different one and the shelf was wet with milk so the bottom of all the cartons was also wet. It was unhygienic and gross. The staff should check the cleanliness of the shelf before they stock up the merchandises. It made our other purchases dirty and this preventable issue caused us inconvenience. Also, the cashier was unfriendly as we asked her if we could use the Save-On-Foods gift card (since now Nesters is affiliated with Save-On-Foods). She responded abruptly with 'no.' She could have said it politely with an apology instead of being condescending. She did not make us feel valued as customers. read more

Nesters only grocery store on Gabriola Island. I once loved shopping at Nesters today there is so much extra product in the middle of isle ways, stacked at the end of shelving rows, there is almost no room left for customers. When I chatted with an employee they became defensive and said it's not my fault head office just keeps sending more stuff. My question is, who needs 3 skid loads of bubbly water right beside the cashiers? Etc. Etc. "so much so" there is no room for shoppers to pass in many areas of the store. Over the last year I reported to the store 4 or 5 times about the mouse infestation in their yaletown store. It all started after I had eaten a wrap that had mouse dropping on it and some of the wraps and plastic was eaten by a mouse. Since this happened I noticed dead mice, mice droppings in this store.. today there just a dead mouse laying there and no one seems to be too bothered by it. read more

This is the closest grocery store to where i live- but it's not my go to place to shop. I only come here for certain things . Why you ask ? Because it's expensive! And it lacks products I buy every day or two. I pretty much only go there for the Sugar Free Aloe Vera Juice drink & Sparkling Ice drinks - also ( sugar free ) *see photos Besides those - when I come here I get a few bottles of water, a Kambucha tea or two, some gum and before I know it $30 plus for a few beverages ! On occasion I'll get my Bf something from the Deli, and before my diet, the bakery DID. Have some pretty yummy stuff. But in general ? They don't carry Solo fruit sorbet, frozen Greek yogurt bars, or 99 cent bags of. 10 calorie freeze pops. There are good things however ! -It's open til 11 which is good- at times ya gotta get that last min item! -They do have a points system that gives back a small discount when you redeem. -Staff is fairly decent But no way I would do all my grocery shopping here. I am amazed that a store i used to love now requires Me to bag my own self and then get out of the way as this crazy worker stares me down as if I'm putting her out. I don't know why stores like these in DT Vancouver who continue asking for a top price for the merchandise they sell, yet want to have a No Frills Experience in their stores. I bought 6 items, no meat and it was more than 70.00. It's the last money you take from me. I hope you decide to wake up and get back to the service you used to provide. read more

I am reviewing the Nester's store located in Lakeview, West Kelowna. I can't seem to find a review site specific to that store. I used to like shopping there because there were a few specialty items I was fond of that I couldn't find elsewhere - Arctic char fillets, veal cutlets, Clausthaler dry-hopped dealcoholized beer, Minute Maid frozen grapefruit juice concentrate, and Tyrrell's cider-flavoured potato crisps are a few items that come to mind. They're all gone now - I can't find anything at Nester's that I couldn't also find at Walmart for much lower prices. These special items were probably not very profitable, but they were the reason I used to drop by Nester's and buy many of my regular groceries there rather than at Walmart or Superstore. Now I don't see any point in shopping at Nester's. Dropping the special products may have looked superficially to be a way to cut costs, but if it also means dropping customers, it may be false economy. read more

This place is relatively pricey and I would expect better produce. Their produce is almost always mouldy (especially strawberries, blueberries, zucchini), bruised or over-ripe (bananas often have spots, tomatoes often soft). I bought a $5 bunch of asparagus yesterday, looked fine, today the spears are all soggy and have turned to mush. It doesn't matter what day you shop, produce is below par in general. They do, however, have an excellent meat and fish selection. Their fish is always fresh and they have a lot of choice when it comes to cuts of beef and pork. Definitely try their marinated chicken breasts, there's usually a couple of marinades to choose from. The staff are friendly and it's this and the meat selection that keep me coming back. My continued disappointment in produce, which is almost my entire shopping basket twice a week, gets you only 2 stars. Step it up on your produce Nester's! read more

They're a bit pricy on a few things (I get the bulk of our groceries from Costco), but there's usually some fruit on special and occasionally avocados for 99¢ (last time many were too soft, so be sure to squeeze lightly for a freshness check). Their frequent shopper / rewards programme is actually good: you get special sale prices AND some reasonable percentage (in dollars) to your account to use whenever. read more

Their customer service has been superb from my experience so far. I was there early one morning and the cooler didn't have the AAA beef that was on sale packaged and ready to go. A very friendly, helpful, and skilled young gentleman from the meat and seafood counter cut two pieces the size that I wanted from a gigantic piece of meat and packaged it for me. read more

Yesterday I purchased chicken for a family dinner. It labelled as having been packaged that day, but when I opened it up, it was old and rather smelly. I walked back to the store, but got there ten minutes after closure and even though staff was still in the store they just ignored me. All the grocery stores in my area were closed by then. Ridiculously high prices. 1 LB of cherries is $1.99 at Safeway and $3.99 at Nester`s, that is 100% higher price. Avoid. And the stuff is fairly incompetent and unresponsive to the customers' needs. Simply AMAZED at what I could find here. I go here specifically for all the Deli and Meat items. You can find all sorts of creative items like Bacon-wrapped Chicken, Salmon + Lobster pinwheels, even stuff like Bison Burgers, Lamb, etc. All packaged and ready to cook. They have lots of ready-made lunch items available (they're a bit pricey, but well made, as they taste great!). The veggies and produce are usually fresh and always well-stocked. Another specialty specific to Nesters is their baked goods section. They have all kinds of cool treats and pastries available, and they're all unique, nothing like you would see at any other grocery store. Their Cupcakes and Brownies are freaking delicious, and they actually taste like they're supposed to (not loaded with sugar like other places). The kicker is that they have all these different party tray options full of goodies. Great for potlucks or picnics. They have a veggie, fruit, appetizer, meat, cheese, breakfast platter, sandwich, spinach dip platter, etc. They're well worth the price. Every other place i've been to that sells or makes those platters, it ends up being severely underwhelming and not worth the cost. But here, the platters are outstanding, and I highly recommend them! read more

Remember that part in Office Space when the nerdy white dude is all listening to hip hop in his car and he's rockin' out but he's stuck in bumper to bumper traffic and the line next to him is moving but when he switches lanes the other lane that he was previously in starts moving. That pretty much describes my experience at Nesters. I don't know what the holdup was, but I was at least ten people deep trying to get through the checkout with my ONE item. Where is the express lane yo? Every other lane was just as brutal, I just happened to pick the one with the problem, and then when shit finally starts movin' there's an old man who wants to count out his change for the cashier! Nester's Market may seem like another overpriced Yaletown grocery store -- and in a sense it is. It's located underneath another big concrete and glass condo building and exists primarily for us lazy city dwellers who go for convenience over price. However, Nestor's has incredible sales and their meat section is relatively cheap. To top things off, it really is 'Where the Locals Shop!" as their slogan says. The staff is friendly, they get to know you, and you always end up running into the same people over and over again. It makes Vancouver feel like a small town. However, the best part of Nester's is that there is a small cafe inside with big windows looking out onto the busy city streets. It offers fabulous fresh coffee (sometime's it's free!) and a great selection of premade items, from breakfast bagels to curries to decadent desserts. While the prices are a bit higher than packaged food of the same variety, they are extremely reasonable when you compare it to eating out. They'll heat the food up for you and you can walk right over to the little self service cafe and watch the world go by. I'd recommend the Oat Fudge Bars, they are the same ones they sell at Starbucks, but cheaper and fresher, and their Indian pre-made stuff is da bomb. read more

I have never felt compelled to write a yelp review about a grocery store but this Nesters has made me do so. I arrived in time for the dinner rush and was looking for specific items: tostadas and sesame snaps. I had been here before and knew that they carried some different items - ginger stem biscuits, rice paper wrappers, an assortment of plant milks, and pop corners (one of my favourites). It was kind of a long shot that they would carry tostadas, but I remembered they had a good variety of "tex mex" items so I took the chance. I asked a clerk if she knew where the tostadas were and she walked with me to the bakery area. (She was actually on her lunch, bless her heart!) No tostadas. She flagged down her coworker and they walked me over to the Tex-Mexican food area but couldn't locate the tostadas. The one girl went on her break but the other one caught yet another clerk who was coming out of the warehouse and asked if he knew where the item was and he said, "I just brought them in but there was no room, but let me get them down for you!" He proceeded to grab a ladder and opened the carton for me, what a kind soul! All three of these clerks could have left me to my own devices and I would have looked at another store but this was awesome! Service with a smile! Then I proceeded to pay but had a sudden pang for a sezme snap. I guess they are gaining traction since they are a gluten free snack gat packs a lot of potassium. The cashier didn't know what I was talking about but he asked someone else, then again walked me to the item. Going in for a breakfast bagel, I get your typical NY style attitude counter girl. I ask for a bagel with ham,egg and cheese but to no avail. She tells me they have something similar, so I reluctantly agree, asking if she would make fresh eggs for it...she tells me(in regards to the egg omlet that looks 4 hours old, in their display case) that "it was made fresh this morning" as if I couldn't tell that it was already a few hours old. I was a little puzzled how that makes it ok? I guess its better than 2 days old right? I should be happy that I get to eat a $5 bfast bagel that's been out for a few hours. I shop here weekly - it's got all your basics. Produce is in good condition and offers good variety. Meats are quite fresh, although selection is limited. Butcher kindly recut a large roast for me. I've been shopping here weekly for over a year and there are a few things that I've come to discover. These aren't roadblocks for me ... I just know how to play the game. Don't wear anything here that you don't want to air out later. The kitchen area must have horrible venting for its cooking equipment because there is often a strong grease smell in the store (i.e. roasting chickens etc.) and when you leave, your coat wreaks of grease ... and you get to smell it all the way home. I've noticed the issue mostly around mid-day when they're cooking up a storm. It seems that items put on sale are often near or at the expiry date, so be careful about stocking up. I've been caught by this too many times. As an example, they recently had a product on sale and as I started to load my basket, I stopped to review the expiry date ... the product had expired two weeks prior. Uh, no thanks. I was able to dig past these first few packages to find some with better expiry dates in the back of the shelf. Staff are friendly and helpful. It has a neighbourhood feel. read more

I like Nester's. It's a sweet little market chain. The staff are helpful, the meat is always fresh and not terribly overpriced, and they break larger packages down if you ask. The shelves are tidy and well stocked, and the prices are clearly marked, the isles are spacious. There isn't a whole lot of items for the 'gluten handicapped' like myself, but they do have the usual suspects ie. some n.g cereals, Pamela's cookies and Bob's Red Mill products. We just moved to our new neighbourhood in Yaletown and Nester's is just within a couple of blocks from our building. It's a great little grocery store which carries a decent selection of brands for a store of its size at reasonable prices. I like that it carries both regular brands (like Campbell and Kraft) and also independent organic produce and poultry from local merchants. Nester's is the closest grocery store on my way home, unfortunatly I often have to get off the bus early and walk to Choices or Urban Fare instead as Nester's has such a poor selection. They often do not have the produce I am looking for, they don't have a very good selection of tofu, cheese or dried goods. Nester's does, however, have two items I go through in great quantity for less than Urban Fare - Avalon Dairy heavy cream & Liberty creme fraiche. They also cary a boxed risotto rice that is particularly good value, and I've purchase saffron here at a decent price. Occasionally they have great deals on the limited amount of produce they do sell. Once they had perfectly ripe avacados on sale for cheap instead of just letting them rot, which it seems that most places seem to prefer to do. The staff are friendly and the bottle return process is much less awkward than it can be elsewhere. All in all, I'm glad to have a grocer a block away, but I tend to expect a wider selection if I'm shopping at a chain instead of a small local market. read more

I've been coming here a lot since I've moved in to town. Always a pleasant atmosphere and great staff until today. I bought a package of pepperette sticks, ate one once I got out of the store and realized it's a month expired. I was gagging with the taste of one month expired pork in my mouth so I went back and asked to see a manager. I spoke to Darryl the store manager and he asked me which part of the store I got the pepperettes from so I showed him. He didn't say anything, so I said again to him "it's a month expired" and then he said to me "I've already heard you the first 2 times"I think it was so rude because he did not give me me any sign that he have heard me the first two times and then he just said "I'll give you a refund". First of all I understand these things can happen and it's ok, but how Daryle handled the situation was just so unprofessional and rude especially as a store manager to any guests. He could have easily apologized at first and be like oh I'm so sorry but things like this can happen etc....I've been in the service industry since I was 15 and i honestly feel like Daryle need some extra training. I felt like he did the opposite of what he said on Nesters website, Darryl you are not so warm and friendly and you definitely do not put your customers first! #badmanager read more

I arrived in Vancouver to film a movie, and of course went right into a 14 day quarantine lockdown in my hotel room. Since I have a kitchen in my suite, the hotel recommended that I order groceries from Nesters. It was a fantastic experience! Nancy took my order by email and then kept in contact over the phone. She personally shopped and filled my order, including asking me about substitutes and things they didn't have. They also had my fave Beyond Burger patties and veggie deli slices, both that are often hard to find. Then she personally delivered them to my hotel room door - Covid safe - and even refused a tip! She made me feel like I made my first friend in town! I am pescatarian and the quality of the fish, produce and other organic items was excellent. Since I am going to be here for a total of three months it's wonderful to know that I have a fantastic neighborhood grocery store. I wish I had a Nesters in Los Angeles, where I live. It's close to my house so if there is something that I need right away, I can count on nesters to have it. They are fairly small sized compared to Save on or Safeway so do take this into account when shopping there. But they do have most of the basic items and a good meat selection. Their produce isn't bad either. Their stuff is cheaper than Urban Fair or Choices that are in the area. The staff is friendly and if you shop at Nesters fault often, I suggest getting their rewards card to save on future groceries. read more

Great customer service, friendly cashiers and anytime I wasn't able to find anything the staff were happy to take the time to help me out!

They're certainly not the cheapest grocery store overall, but there's usually some good finds in their meat section. And if you spot any cupcakes in their bakery, YOU HAVE TO TRY SOME, they're the best. Their cupcakes are not grossly over-sweetened like the generic safeway bakery ones, or the specialty cupcake shop ones. This coming from someone who is a very picky eater. read more
