Everything! Really flavorful food. Don't expect big portions necessarily--American speaking here. But very very good vegan food. We've done take out a couple of times and dined in for breakfast this morning. Haven't had anything bad at all. My recs are the Korean curry and rice, the "tuna" poke bowl, and the breakfast burrito. My utmost favorite was the sweet chili tofu wrap and the bulgogi burrito (probably one of the best burritos I personally have ever bit into--and being from Texas I've eaten a lot of burritos). This spot is inside a fitness studio so it can be a bit tricky to find, but once you do, it is definitely worth it. The customer service was great and my food was delicious. There is a pretty good amount of seats given that it's a small space, it's just not a huge place. I got the Japchae and it was perfect. Also the pan fried dumplings were also amazing. The people at my table ordered extra dumplings because we were all obsessed. I also got the lentil pancakes and they were soooo good too. The location inside of a building that houses a gymnasium/spa/workout center/yoga studio, the funky interior and a kitchen that kind of looks like it was designed on a wing and a prayer does not exactly inspire confidence in what you're about to devour. Don't let that fool you. Serious good things are happening here. I dare anyone making dumplings to put the vegan fare here up against anything in the city, meat or no meat. Crisp but moist, succulent, savory, a hint of smoke in each bite, a brilliant dipping sauce, honestly some of the best I've ever had. Shocking and pleasing it was so good. Any hard core carnivore would want more. We dined a few days earlier at Nupo (cha-ching -- sound of the kind of cash register no one uses these days) which itself dabbles in more than a fair bit of vegan/plant based courses, and dare I say they could not beat these. For our entrees we had Bibimbap and Chik'in (something) plate that was a special. After a few days that included us likely consuming more meat than we had in the previous month (don't judge, we're visiting family, just along for the ride paying the tabs) it was a welcome return closer to what we prepare for ourselves at home. The Bi was full of fresh vegetables that were mixed with a thick red sauce that was at least part sriracha, likely house made. The vegetables mixed with the rice and sauce made for a delicious bowl that was soon empty of every single bit of rice. I tried the faux chicken, and while I've never thought it was necessary to try to emulate meats and present them as such at vegan restaurants, it was pretty amazing. Yet another first-rate vegan stop in a city that has far more of it than I'm used to experiencing back home. Makes for a good visit. Very highly recommended. read more

We had the eggs Benedict, Tofu scramble, bagel sandwich, Americano and Lattes, and chocolate banana bread for dessert. Everything was so delicious. Service was fast and friendly. I visited Saturday, April 30, 2022. Menu and pricing was different from what another reviewer had posted. Current prices seemed outrageous to me. I paid $21 for a vegan kabob, no beverage. it came with some red cabbage coleslaw and few chopped greens. The server was friendly and attentive. Street parking. She turned the music up and had to ask her to turn it down as it was deafening to me, a senior. She apologized and turned it down. Restaurant and washrooms were clean. I paid $21 for I would think should sell for $9.95 as it came in a paper box. For some reason the bread was put on the bottom of the bottom and then food placed on top? You would have to push the food aside to access the bread. Didn't see right to me. The food was very good and properly prepared. The woman kindly offered me a sample of a fresh berry smoothie. Overall, I was drawn to the place because of the low prices pictured by another poster. I got the sense the place is under new management. I can't afford to eat here. Perhaps others can. read more

I have tried a few things on the menu and keep going back. It's excellent. My fav items on the menu are Japchae, Filet-No-Fish burger, and Vegan Poke bowl. SaVeg is the brainchild of Calgary Local YouTuber Rose Lee, aka CheapLazyVegan. It is a local, family owned, Korean inspired Vegan cafe in the heart of the Beltline. This cute little spot is inside the Heaven's building (some sort of Yoga studio?). It's a small, cozy space that offers 100% Vegan fare with Korean inspired flavours. Gazing in into the open kitchen you will be able to see Rose and her mother prepare your flavourful vegan meal. I will admit that I am far from a Vegan, but luckily for me SaVeg's menu leaves room for plenty of bold colourful flavours despite there being no meat. They in addition to these korean inspired mains, they also offer standard breakfast fare, smoothies, and baked goods. We headed over to check this place out after hearing it about it from Rose at an unrelated function, and I have to say I was pretty impressed despite my mixed experiences with vegetarian places in the past (refer to Veg-In-YYC). We had the Japchae (korean glass noodle) bowl with dumplings, and the house special, which is a tofu sweet potato mix with a sweet spicy korean sauce, served with rice and shredded cabbage. Pricing was reasonable, ringing in at $11.50 each. The house special was for sure a standout. The flavour balance was done well and the "sweet and spicy korean sauce" was not prohibitively spicy for me, and I'm a lightweight when it comes to heat. The shredded cabbage was an okay compliment to the dish by adding much needed crunch, though I thought it could have been a little more interesting. Maybe there are other veggies they could experiment with to compliment the dish. The glass noodles were pretty standard but good, though I figure the flavour could have been a little more bold with some more interesting contents in addition to the tofu and veggies. The dumplings were a nice compliment - a side of dipping sauce (rice vinegar, maybe?) would have complimented them well. We also tried a piece of banana bread which was excellent, given that it was vegan. It was moist, sweet, and tasted exactly like regular banana bread. Overall, I think SaVeg is a wonderful addition to Calgary's small vegan and vegetarian food scene - and with the prices reasonable, I wouldn't hesitate to visit again. As they grow I am looking forward to them hopefully expanding their food menu to include some more variety for me to sample. read more

With the whole "New Year, New Me" movement that occurs at the beginning of each year, an article along the lines of "Must Try Plant Based Restaurants of Calgary" recently came out. SaVeg was featured and their Korean inspired cuisine is what piqued my interest. I find Asian vegetarian or vegan dishes to be more adventurous, flavourful but most importantly filling. For lunch I went with the japchae glass noodles with pan fried dumplings. Mixed in the noodles were colorful veggies of spinach, carrots, peppers and onions, ribbons of tofu and sesame seeds sprinkled on top. The star of this dish were the dumplings. I ate one and immediately pried open a second one to see what was inside because I swear it tasted like pork! With the delish food and reasonable pricing, I can't wait to head back to SaVeg again! read more

Good theme, courteous staff; menu was unique and loved the variety. My glass noodles were flavorful and well done. The reason it was a 4 star and not 5 for me is because I think they were microwaving food, which affected the freshness of the food, as there was just one person doing all the tasks- taking orders, billing and cooking! read more

This little cafe is tucked away in a health club in downtown Calgary. I ordered the house special: air fried tofu and sweet potatoes with a wonderful mildly sweet and spicy sauce with rice and shredded cabbage. I also ordered the bibimbap which has lentils as the protein. The sauce is on the side which allows for adding just the right amount of heat. I ordered takeout and they were very quick in preparing it. Worth the price of parking downtown. read more

Centrally located, with fairly easy pay street parking out front during the day -- it's located within a fitness studio. We came here for breakfast twice, and over the course of the meals, tried the very tasty "no eggs benny", the bagel sandwich, the tofu scramble, and burrito -- the former two were great, the latter two being rather bland. Very reasonably priced, much more so than many breakfast joints in Calgary. Cool place -- worth checking out. read more

The tofu eggs Benedict is not exactly like a real eggs Benedict but the flavor is definitely still there and it's filling! But the real winner is the Bulgogi wrap. I mean, WOW, it's so insanely delicious. The mocha latte was yummy, too. I would love to visit this place a third time if I visit Calgary again. read more

Edited to update- it's now 2 years later and the world has changed in horrible ways, but last night I got takeout from saVeg and it was outstanding. They have a sweet system for managing takeout orders where you walk to the little window on the 6 Street side and ring the bell (button adjacent to window) and the nice person inside brings you your order, which I'd ordered ahead on their website. No need for a car, very pedestrian-priority and I wish every place had the ability to have something similar. Anyway, the food was WOW! Especially the lentil pancakes- I could eat these every day, they're crispy and savoury and the accompanying sauce is dense with flavour- this was the star of the meal but everything was delicious. We also got the spicy "chicken," the house special with tofu and sweet potato, and two slices of banana bread and swapped white rice for brown. These are not only vegan but also very authentic Korean flavours and is going into my regular rotations. All this food was $48 with tax and tip but we ordered more than we needed (could have got two pancakes instead of three, could have got one banana bread instead of two). Ample servings and fantastic creative Korean vegan food, and they're open for takeout and delivery AND are open for dinner until 8p most nights. read more

I'd been following Rose on Youtube for a really long time (way before she started SaVeg with her mom) & have been trying to muster the courage to visit since it opened. I was afraid to see her there and totally gush about how funny I think she is, how much I love her videos etc. (I'm super awkward 100% of the time). Last week I finally went. SHE WAS THERE. I barely contained my inner fan girl. Anyways, I got: -banana bread to-go 3/5 it was decent. Slightly dry and could use either walnuts or chocolate chips in it to add texture. -japchae 4/5 This is what I came for. It was REALLY good, but I may try and ask for more vegetables added to it next time as it was 95% noodle 5% veg. It'd be better as 70% noodle 30% veg. -filet no-fish to-go 4/5 This felt like McDonalds, in mostly a good way. It was satisfying, messy (as a burger should be) and with a perfect sesame bun. However, it was also like McDonalds in that the toppings were scarce and as previously mentioned I LIKE MY VEGGIES. As much as I've complained, I'm having lunch there tomorrow...so Rose is doing something right! read more
