The experience with staff and volunteers may be hit or miss. Some of very good. Others not. Several years ago I volunteered regularly and enjoyed both my placement in the back room pricing donations and working on the floor with customers. I have witnessed both the manager being very kind to a person in need and the men working the cash register being rather unfriendly. Back then the paid staff did not appear to have been hired with a nod toward good customer service. I doubt if the hiring practices have changed based on a recent visit. While shopping, I ended up helping an older gentleman because the person at the counter was unnecessarily curt when asked a simple question like where-would-I-find-a- book? One assumes the staff member's mannerisms toward this older gentleman had nothing to do with race, as they were both older men of the same ethnic background. It just is what it is. One can't be overly sensitive when shopping at the Thrift House. I am surprised to read that a service dog was not welcomed, but the writer of that review failed to clarify if the dog was a trained service dog with documentation and whether or not the dog was wearing a vest. Even I would be surprised if the dog was turned away in those circumstances. When donating, be aware that donations coming from households with cats are discarded, per the manager, who appears to have a personal dislike of those furry creatures. (Cat hair is the dead give away, so wash anything well before donating if you have a cat.) I don't go to thrift shops often, but when I do, I start at the Thrift House. I also donate there. Normally, the staff is not overly fussy, just not welcoming, and the finds are worth any rudeness one might experience.

This is another example, along with abandoning Cathedral Towers, that the greatest ministry this Church has is saving money, not serving the poor.

It's…read morenot huge, so not overwhelming, and it's located near to some other furniture thrift stores so it relieves the pressure to find the perfect thing or to settle on something you're not happy with. I've gotten some chairs here, as well as some linens (which, yes, are new, but they're a good price and good quality!) Like every thrift/vintage shop, not every visit is going to be a hit, but the stock rotates frequently enough that it's always fun to stop by! They're also very honest-- I was thinking about some outdoor furniture which they pointed out to me wasn't in the best condition. I was able to pass on that and stick with the things that I still did, and continue to, love.

Second Life was an essential to me: I found Cole Hahn and AVL leather flats (almost unworn), numerous silk blouses (Marchesa Voyage, Annie Griffin), two silk skirts (one bespoke, the other from Anthropologie), dresses, jackets, a string of cultured pearls, Chicos and Eileen Fisher trousers - oh, and my last trip there, I actually scanned the books, and the selection is equally good there. Prices are higher than your average thrift, but, as you can see, so is the merchandise. It's always fair, and they run sales on the regular. I've been inspired to start putting aside some of my almost unworn or lightly worn clothes so that I can contribute to this community treasure, and keep the cycle going. The space is huge and full, but not cluttered. It's the most orderly thrift store ice ever seen, but you do still feel like you're on a treasure hunt finding goodies at every turn.
