Our family is extremely excited to use the Mexican Street Corn seasoning from savory spice shop. We really liked the savory spice shop because there were so many options. The options came in gift sets, or individual sets. The representative in the store was extremely knowledgeable and encouraged us to try the different spices. She even gave us examples of how to use the spices and how to mix them on different meats. This is a wonderful store, but I especially like it for Christmas shopping or gift shopping it's a cute spot located in the Lauri shopping center and I definitely will go back! read more

Shout out to the amazing employees and how they have had to pivot during COVID. Yes.... the best thing about the store (in our glorious, pre pandemic days) was going in a tasting all the spices. Sadly (and quite obviously through no fault of the store's own), that has gone away. However, the excellent employee service still remains. Tip: call or place your order online and prepay - the store will have your order ready for you up front in brown "to go" bags. The store itself is physically small, so the number of customers allowed inside at one time is limited. The employees provide excellent recommendations and very helpful advice. And in my very humble opinion, their version of "Everything But the Bagel Seasoning" is FAR superior that that of another, better known, store. read more

The merchandise is good quality and "fresh" for dried spices but the customer service is spotty and they were virtually impossible to deal with during the Covid Panic period where the entire Staff had a very Boulder-ish preachy attitude re masks, distancing , sampling, hand sanitizer etc and the whole panoply of Fauci-istic unscientific voodoo practices regarding a virus. I have been in here twice now. They seem to have every spice I could possibly want, and quite a few I did not even know existed. On my last visit, I picked up some very nice cumin. It definitely was more fragrant and powerful than those I have purchased at the local grocery store. Apparently, they grind the spices fresh every week, and they also have a large selection of organic spices. I read that the Lowry location was the prototype for the Savory Spice Shop owner/operator model. Those who will be opening their own SSS franchises spend time at the Lowry location ( learning the trade) before they open their own locations. The people working at SSS certainly seemed helpful and friendly to me. If I worked or lived closer to here, I would probably be dropping my every month. I have shopped here for years and never really had an issue. What a nightmare this place has become. I understand that a business must change and adapt over time, but policies and procedures that are not customer friendly make no sense. But today was the last straw. Beyond them opening 10 minutes late, the employee decided to lecture me on what and how I should buy. I made my distaste for her behavior known and she just kept doing it. They have recently changed their policy so that you have to buy in quantities that they set. Want 2 ounces of something - forget it - you have to buy 2.6, weird. After several very frustrating minutes I gave up and walked out. Sad....very sad....to see a business shoot itself in the foot thereload and shoot itself in the other foot. Update per the store's comment. That is completely illogical. If you want to sell by volume instead of weight, then do not price by weight. If your scales are accurate enough to measure 2.6 ounces, then you can do any weight. If you just don't want to sell in bulk, then don't. Just prepack everything and don't give the illusion of having an option. read more

Oh my, how I do love this shop. My first visit here, I had no idea what it was about! (I know, I know, the name should give it away, lol.) But in Denver, things could mean just about anything. So I walked in to explore. I wasn't greeted right away; in fact, I wasn't greeted for quite a bit, until I made my way around the corner to stand directly in front of an associate (there were 3). It was only a Wednesday afternoon (brunch time), and they weren't that busy. I figured they might like to really tailor the experience of each customer, which is great, but greeting someone who is ready to spend money at your store is crucial (especially when they have no idea what it is they're about to spend money on, lol). The rest of my experience (after I was finally greeted) was great, though. I ended up buying a real cool gift set for my step-dad that he actually will really like for Father's Day (jeez, I hope he doesn't see this before then, haha). I'd like to give the store another try, as they have some really awesome spices and spice combinations, but maybe I'll be adventurous and give the other locations a shot next time. read more

This store has the potential to be great. It is filled with beautiful spices in glass jars. I bought several of their products and made the investment in the glass jars because I believe in re-using containers and not buying single use products. Today when I went in with all of my clean jars I was told that they can't refill the jars, but instead can put the spices into single use plastic bags to be taken home, THEN put into the jars. For this reason I will never support this store again. What is the point of selling your products in reusable containers if you don't reuse them. A store that solely sells products in bulk should invest in the in-store cleaning stations that the health code requires so that their customers can take advantage of using their containers. read more

LOVE the new Lowry location as it much closer to mi casita. I'm so psyched to tell my fellow Yelp cooks about their mole blend that I'm still wearing my schmutz covered apron as I type this little review. There are as many types of mole as there are stars in the sky, but if you like mole poblano, you've gotta try "Mike's Mole" spice blend from Savory Spice. Maybe still not as good as your abuelitas, but it kicks Doña Maria's ass (you know the stuff in the jar from the supermarket). This place makes me cry. Literally. Beware the Extra Hot Jamaican Jerk Blend. I was skeptical about visiting a boutique spice shop, but after cooking with their creations, I'm hooked. The real magic about this place is their selection of home brewed spice concoctions, not to mention their variety of just about every kind of salt and peppercorn known to man. The prices are reasonable, with refill-size plastic bags available so you don't have to buy a new jar everytime you run out. I can pull up a chair & just sit in this place. It's an open floor plan so it's easy to navigate. The staff is friendly and helpful. I'm not sure what prices are considered affordable and expensive when it comes to spice shops like this one but I know that I spent $20 on two items at 2.5 oz & 4 oz if that helps any which was more than I expected but was well worth it. Absolutely lives up to the hype. I've been hearing about this place for months from my boss and coworkers, but it was reading Nicole's review here on Yelp that finally got me moving. Once you walk in, there's no hiding in the corner. Someone will approach you right away and give you the lowdown. I thought I didn't want the lowdown, but I once I got it, I was glad I had it. Even if I am just running into Savory for something simple I can't help but browse for an hour. They have just about every spice, spice blend, extract, and cooking accoutrement you could imagine. Some highlights are the True Cinnamon (read up on it, what you have been eating all your life is not cinnamon), Black Garlic (fermented, tastes like a fig/garlic hybrid), Crystallized Ginger (a cure all, I swear by it), and individual Vanilla Beans (all regions, affordable!). You will spend way less than you would on spices at the grocery store and receive a fresh, high quality product with friendly service to boot. Novel idea, huh! If you like to cook you have to stop by Savory Spice shop. End of story, no questions asked. Do it! They sell bulk spices, herbs and other ingredients as well as house made blends of spices. They grind all of their spices at their Platte St. location so they are as fresh as you can get. It is a much better value to buy spices this way. You don't have to pay for packaging and you can get as much as you want. Spices lose their flavor and potency the longer they sit on your shelf so it is a good idea to just buy a little bit of what you need. The staff is very knowledgeable and willing to help you figure out what you need for a specific recipe or dish. Their blends are so amazing. I find myself trying to find a recipe just so I could use something from the shop. This location just recently opened and the owner saw me coming in the other day and said "weren't you just in last weekend"? I recommend their Park Hill Pork Rub as well as the Black Onyx Cocoa. read more

A few weeks ago I wrote a not so happy review about my visit to the Savory Spice Shop at Lowry. A few days later I received an e-mail from Brooke apologizing for my negative experience. Brooke was sincere and kind. She offered to send me a gift card to allow me to shop there again, this time at the Company's expense. I accepted her offer and returned to the Shop a few days ago. I have to say, my experience was 200% better. I was acknowledged as soon as I walked in the door. Staff offered their assistance as I shopped around. Altogether, it was a pleasant experience. I love this place! So far, this location has been the best. It's bigger and roomier. There are never a lot of people and there are always plenty of employees there to help you. I visited the one Platte on Saturday afternoon and it was a mad house. I visited this one in Lowry around the same time and it had some customers but not very many. I prefer the layout of this location. I recommend the Saigon Cinnamon and Honey Powder. Mmmmmmmm!!! read more

I hate this place... I hate it because it makes me want to spend every dime I have there and thinking about putting a bunch on credit too. What can I say, if you eat at McDonald's 5 days per week and never cook, you're not going to be as excited as I am. I love the fact you can buy fresh spices in small quantities so they're always fresh. They also have some funky stuff that you won't find elsewhere. After you grind a spice, you have a couple of months to use it at it's freshest, so if you bought a $6 jar of so-and-so at King Soopers 5 years ago, it's probably not good. By buying small amounts of top-quality goods from Savory, you save money. You should be throwing away that junk from 5 years ago and buying new stuff before cooking for friends and family. I love they have a ton of salts and if you've never tried truffle salt, try theirs and you'll be addicted. You'll want to put it on everything. They do lots of nice combo packs so you can get a bunch of stuff at a discount. For me, it's hard to rate the staff because I know what I'm looking for at these places, so there's not a lot of discussion to be had. Go here, buy the truffle salt, fall in love. read more

One of my favorite shops in Denver, hands down. It is a must for anyone who likes to cook or is interested in expanding their culinary horizons. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable, but the real attraction are those rows and rows of freshly prepared spices, rubs, and mixes. Among my favorites are the Ethiopian Berbere and the Vietnamese Lemon Curry. Nearly every large jar of spice is accompanied by a small taster. Sprinkle a little onto your palm and give it a whirl (water and a sink is provided to help with the aftermath). With every visit, I find something new to experiment with. Their prices are very reasonable, which helps encourage new taste adventures. Just be prepared to spend at least thirty minutes to an hour wandering the store and sampling their goods. read more

A friend introduced me to the shop in Boulder last year and I have been in love ever since. If you have any interest in cooking, then the Savory Spice Shop is the place for you. All of the spices are so fresh and so much better than the pre-packaged spices that you purchase in a grocery store. Imagine looking for cinnamon and finding 5 or more different varieties. I love that you can purchase a small plastic bag of a couple of ounces, a small-ish glass jar (that can be refilled) or larger sizes, as you prefer. I went in to the Lowry location on my way home from work looking to make tacos and I didn't want to buy another taco seasoning mix. The people in my household are very exacting, so it was great to be able to pick up a couple different types of taco seasoning and let the "men" pick out which seasoning they would prefer with the evening's tacos. I purchased two 2-oz packs for under $5 and tried them out. Everyone enjoyed the taco seasoning and we were pleased with the flavorful quality. The Savory Spice Shop also carries several blends that are already set up in glass jars for around $5 each. We really enjoy the new flavors that their spices have given to our food. Just enjoy and be happy. Good spices, flavor and happy staff. Can't go wrong here. read more

I love this store because it's the only place where Mr. P. will actually browse around and engage the employees. We are no longer allowed to buy spices from the grocery store. Only the freshly ground small batches from Savory will do. I don't cook but luckily my personal chef has a huge supply that he likes to use in all his dishes, such as: garlic, onion powder, celery seeds, organic cilantro, organic California bay leaves, Mexican oregano and organic Greek oregano, lemon thyme, organic Chinese ginger, turmeric, and smoked Spanish sweet paprika, just to name a few. These, all the ones listed below, and more are all in my kitchen right now. Savory also creates a ton of different herb and spice blends. Some of the ones we like are: Hidden Cove Lemon Garlic Blend, Herbes de Provence, Coastal Bay Seasoning, and California Citrus Rub. The labels helpfully suggest the best ways to use each blend. Savory offers a large variety of gift sets of the spices and blends, ranging from 4 to 12 jars, each with a different theme (hot cocoa, BBQ, chili, pizza & pasta, surf & turf, and the list goes on). We've given some as gifts and they were a huge hit. I especially love the line of spice blends that are named after locations in Colorado: Colorado Plateau Citrus Pepper Summit County Seasoning Great Plains Bison & Beef Rub Mt. Massive Steak Seasoning Homestead Seasoning Four Corners Peppercorn Red Rocks Hickory Smoke Seasoning (Mr. P. says this one can't be beat for a smoky flavor on the gas grill) More advice from Mr. P. I walked in to this store for the first time today. I was immediately struck by the lovely smell of the spices. Next, I was warmly greeted by the three guys in the shop. Third, I noticed the quaint decor and tidy organization of the merchandize. Christopher was quick to help me. My intent was to make a homemade spiced chai mix. This required about eight different spices, but I didn't want to buy a huge amount of any of them. Christopher told me I could buy each thing in small quantities (even as small as a half ounce if desired). This was able to prevent me from investing too much money into my experimental recipe. They allow tasting and smelling of all sorts of things, including their custom blend spices. From what I tasted, the various spices and blends were delicious, fragrant, and with quick turnover-very fresh. I will definitely be back here for all my spice needs. Savory Spice is great. After discovering them, E and I quickly replaced all of our spices with their brand. They are so much cheaper than the regular grocery store in terms of quality and quantity, with a huge variety. A dozen kinds of salt and pepper and chiles and yummy rubs. Their Channel Island rub is to die for, and I also love their flavored sugars for baking...or just eating straight :) They also have about 2 dozen kinds of extracts, from almond to coffee to kiwi, and really high quality vanilla extract in tahitian, mexican, AND madagascar varieties. Plus, their corresponding whole vanilla beans. I always adore this shop, but today they definitely earned their 5 stars. E got an email inviting all of the people on their email list to come on down to the Quebec St location for a new dry-rub taste-testing competition. They had three top qualifiers that they rubbed on beef and veggies and grilled for customers to sample. They wouldn't let you know what was in the rubs, but you could do as many tastes of the three qualifiers as you wanted before voting on your favorite. It was great! Afterwards, E and I browsed. It is without a doubt our favorite Denver store, and I will really miss it when we move to Durango :( I think I am going to try and convince the owners to open a store down there. First, I want to thank Savory Spice for many years of good spices. Sept 2018. Inventoried my spices, made list, headed off to Savory Spice to replenish for Fall/Winter 2018. (last time I was in -Spring 2018). From Spring to Fall: Change in branding - the blue labeling looks cheap and takes away from the 'richness/earthiness' of spices within the containers. Zones - one staff member introduced me to the new 'zone' concept. Yeh - Twilight. I gave up navigating the zones and asked for assistance. Refills - used to be you could get an ounce of this, a couple ounces of that - no longer. I am usually cooking for one or two and don't need big jars of spices. No notification. Savory Spice is quick to send emails regarding recipes, 'sales' and other yakkity yak -yet there was no correspondence regarding the changes. Of the six items I needed to replenish, I left with two. Where I used to tell anyone that would listen about Savory Spice, that will no longer happen. Those I had told, I put the word out about the changes. All said, very disappointed. Savory Spice was my 'go to' for spices after today I will have to shop around. read more

This Place is a Godsend. Nothing like the pure joy of walking through this palce flipping through the recipes in my head and see what mish mash fo fusion dish i can make. But here it is much more chalanging, so much to explore and discover it was total sensory overload. I came out with pepper blend mix and fresh butterscotch flavoring that I still not quite sure hot to use. I can't wait to take my family there. This place should get 10 stars imho. read more
