This is our go-to spice shop! It's located in the heart of downtown Fort Collins, which means you will compete for street parking or just swing into the parking garage. Very cool, well decorated, and cozy shop. The staff is super helpful and attentive from the moment you walk in. The spices are high quality and the selection is excellent. Their Capital Hill seasoning is one of my favorites for shaking onto some scrambled eggs, avocado toast or grilled veggies. I was really sad when I heard that the Savory Spice Shop was opening up in the Opera Galleria -- sad that it wasn't closer to home (as if being a few miles away wasn't a vast improvement over going to Boulder or Denver). Kidding aside, it is kind of a shame that Fort Collins' two specialty spice shops are within walking distance of each other, but I am glad to have Savory in town. The Opera Galleria location does have it's benefits -- there is ample parking in the garage behind it, and there is even a covered walkway connecting the garage to the 2nd floor of the galleria for those days where the weather is miserable. Your first hour of parking is free as well. The store itself is bright and inviting, with an impressive variety of herbs, spices, peppers, etc. available in numerous forms (whole, ground, mixes, etc.). Stuff is arranged functionally (e.g. for baking or barbequing) or by cuisine type -- an arrangement that invites browsing. A couple of staples that keep me coming back -- vanilla beans and crystallized ginger. Sure, you can get vanilla beans in most any grocery store, but they won't be the supple, fragrant beans that Savory offers. Oh, and at the grocery store you will pay 2-3 times as much for a single, pathetically dried-out bean as you would for 3 better quality beans at Savory. As for the crystallized ginger -- I've started substituting Savory's chunk-style crystallized ginger for fresh ginger in a number of my staples, e.g. teriyaki sauce. Almost everything I make that uses ginger also includes some sugar, so with the crystallized ginger I just cut back or omit it. The crystallized ginger has such concentrated flavor that I find it easier than working with the old, stringy "fresh" ginger from the grocery store produce aisles. At some point I'll branch out and try some of the more exotic things that aren't familiar to me -- the fact that I can get tiny quantities for things I don't use regularly is a huge bonus. read more

I visited this shop in order to buy some spices for a chili I planned on making after being recommended by a friend, and I was blown away by the whole experience. The first and most obvious benefit to shopping here is the access to freshly ground spices, which are not only more fragrant and flavorful than what you can find at the supermarket, but also cost roughly the same price too. I was even more impressed by the selection and quality of the dried chiles offered here, which were both fragrant and pliable. Even now, the leftover chiles from my purchase are still emitting a pleasant aroma in my spice cabinet several months later. This is in direct contrast to my experience with dried chiles I bought at the supermarket, which were already brittle at the point of purchase. However the best part of the experience overall was the service. It might take a few minutes to get help when the store is busy since it is small and not heavily staffed, but the staff will go the extra mile to meet your needs, ranging from letting you smell and taste spices on the premises, grinding spices to order, and also giving good recommendations if you tell them what you intend to cook. After my experience here, I have no need to purchase spices at the grocery store ever again. Highly recommended. read more

I love visiting Savory Spice when I visit Fort Collins! We do a lot of grilling in the summer and I make a point of stocking up on different rubs to try. I have not had good experience with this shop and plan on heading over to Old Town Spice Shop when I need items. The store is nice and it is clean and attractive. They do have good items. But often the staff were a bit impatient, not terribly friendly and they frowned upon the small amount of spices I gave to multiple co-workers. I only wanted to give a little to many people and the lady pulled a bit of an attitude, making the comment" well that really isn't very much is it"? I also got a kind realtor gift card that expired end Feb. I work late and have never had time to make it down, so I asked if I could extend it one day..no longer. I heard them talking in the background like I had asked for the world. They did not extend it. So I will take my business elsewhere recommend the other store. read more

I was thrilled when Savory Spice opened a shop here. I had been driving to Boulder for the past few years, so it was a relief to have such quality products so close to home. The spices, herbs, and blends are so much fresher than from the grocery store. And less expensive, to boot! The fact that patrons are encouraged to try what they want and buy what they need really makes a difference, too. The Savory staff is a fun group of folks who really know their stuff. If an inquiry stumps them, they take the time to find the answer, via one of the great books they sell, the Internet, or from each other. I so appreciate that they will measure out a small sample size if you just want enough product for a meal or two, or are not totally sure how much you will like it. I was also there the other day when they weighed out a pound of something for one of the restaurants in town....we regular joes can get a pound, also! I have been in the shop many times, and am always treated courteously and with a smile. It is a beautiful setting....inviting and bright with exotic aromas from around the world. The music is mellow, and I always seem to feel my shoulders drop a few inches when I walk in the door. By the way, my cooking has really gone up a notch! read more

I went to this shop over the weekend. I went to this one after a horrible experience with the other spice shop in Old Town (Old Town Spice Shop). I was so impressed with the completely different atmosphere that welcomed me as soon as I walked in the door. I was immediately helped by an employee who told me how the shop worked and to let her know if I needed anything. Then I found everything I wanted and more, their selection is FABULOUS! After this whirlwind experience I got in the checkout line and the employee asked me if I found everything okay. Which, of course is expected, but I was happy that this shop actually acknowledged me (unlike the other one). And she told me about the rewards program they have. So, of course I signed up. It has a money back aspect as well as a present for your birthday. Since my birthday is this month she promptly let me select my birthday freebie from an adorable basket of sprinkle-on spices. I picked out Parmesan Pest, and yes it is as delicious as it sounds. Basically, this spice shop made my day and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for specialty items. I can't wait to go back!
